We usually come to Bedok Point for great Body Spa or Foot Reflexology sessions. Yesterday's trip was to shop for our daughter's sunglasses & I, to redeem a free haircut. So hubby & daughter went shopping while I was having my hair done. When we finally meet up, he told me of a bakery with very generous chunky sampling pieces. I was curious to find out how generous could any shop offer in this very expensive shoppers' & foodists' paradise named Singapore?!So he led me down to the Ground Floor. The
So he led me down to the Ground Floor. The bakery was located just next to the escalator & it was already filled with a sizable crowd. We went closer to take a look.
The store was rather small but it was clean. There were 2 rows of shelves leaning back-to-back with only 1 level of trays where the breads were showcased. The customer traffic was flowing oneway, towards the cashier counter (a very simple & effective retail strategy).
At the outer corner of the counter, a young lady was busy cutting up chuncky pieces of bread & refilling up the sampling trays. There were 2 staff at the cashier counter but only 1 cash register. One young lady staff was helping to slice the bread (upon customer's request) & bagging them up while the other attended to the customers at the cash register. All the staffs were wearing gloves. We managed to blend into the traffic but to my horror...I saw people picking up the chunky samples with their bare fingers! Gosh...I seriously thought the owner should consider spending a little more & to stick a toothpick into each chunky sample pieces (even the huge supermarkets do that, nowadays)...
After trying out a few varieties, we finally settled to have the Magic Stick Cheese & the French Garlic Soft Bread. The Magic Stick Cheese (in the tray) looked as if there were cubes of cheese embedded into the loaves while the French Garlic Soft Bread was quite plain looking with only herb-powder baked onto the loaves. We didn't have time to settle down & to enjoy the breads till it was supper time. Both hubby & I were very surprised to find the mountainful of cubed cheese inside our loaf! The bread itself tasted soft, chewy & springy (QQ) at the same time.
I considered myself very choosy with bread but I could simply ate this on its own!
Discerning eaters would be able to pick up the subtle sweetness and would also conclude that the bread must have been meticulously hand-baked with the finest & freshest ingredients.
The cubed cheese were soft & did not stick to my teeth at all. Hmm...wondered if that was how this loaf was named, the "Magic Stick Cheese"...
Verdict:
Hubby & I decided that we must get their Membership Card today!
