Wheat Baumkuchen is a bakery cafe producing the famed layered German confection, easily recognized by its characteristic concentric rings which resemble the cross-section of a tree trunk. No surprise, then, that baumkuchen actually translates to "tree cake". Like its lookalike kueh lapis, baumkuchen is painstakingly baked layer by layer, except that this is all performed on a rotating spit.

Although the layers of my Classic original オリジナル baumkuchen were visually well-defined, this was not the case taste-wise. On its own, it tasted similar to a butter cake, and could have been more buttery and moist. Thankfully, the cake was coated with a layer of refreshing lemon frosting that helped to liven up its flavor.

While I felt that Wheat Baumkuchen's cakes please the eyes more than the tastebuds, I wouldn't mind trying some of the other innovative baumkuchen flavors it offers, such as durian, green tea and Nutella almond.
