The inconspicuous cafe at Toa Payoh Central is located at the back alley where KOI is located, opposite the HDB hub. Wheat Baumkuchen is known for their daily baked Baumkuchen. What is Baumkuchen? Today I am going to introduce you to their new menu, COOL NOODLE. This is probably the first in Singapore. A new concept of eating noodles in a healthy and cool refreshing way. There are 5 types of Cool Noodle available on the menu at $4.80 per plate and they are named as Dolphin, Polar Bear, Penguin, Seal and Reindeer.

The Seal Cool Noodle comes with white noodles in roasted sesame sauce with sauteed pork, tofu, carrot and cucumber. Initially I was quite sceptical how by simply putting some salad and cold noodle together can make a tasty noodle dish. After tasting it, I have to applaud the concept and the roasted sesame sauce really brought the dish together.

The Penguin Cool Noodle was the other I tried which comes with green soba noodles in roasted sesame sauce with shredded chicken, fried eggs, carrot and cucumber. It tasted as good as the "Seal".

I think the Cool Noodle concept will be received very well by the public especially the ladies. It is something new, refreshing and healthy. Most importantly, cheap and nice

The deal was for a valentine's day cake (which were shaped as two hearts and coated with chocolate). It truly looked amazing. Not only did it look amazing, it tasted mind blowing as well.

I did not expect much when I first entered the pastry bar. It was located under a hdb flat and looked ordinary. They also provided outdoor seating for people who were dining in. They offered main courses as well as desserts (mainly cakes).

The cake was covered was granche chocolate and was of two hearts joint together. The chocolate had a pretty thick coating and tasted rich. The cake tasted somewhat like it has been layered (texture was like kueh lapis). It was not too sweet and tasted pretty light. Perfect for those tea parties.

The cakes also make perfect gifts as they come in such a lovely box! I was back after a few days to order another cake; this time for my boyfriend who has been consistently bugging me for the address ever since

I heard good things about the restaurant, but haven't had the chance to try it until today. I chose the Penguin cold noodles that had shredded chicken and egg on green soba noodles with roasted sesame sauce. <div><br></div><div>Being really greedy, I added on a water chestnut drink and a chocolate baumkuchen bringing the total from $4.80 to $8. The serving portion was unexpectedly huge and value for money. The flavours blend well. I think the best compliment

The woman beside me also emptied her plate in 5 minutes flat. About the baumkuchen, it felt a bit too dry for my taste. The classic one is worth a try though.

I first tried Baumkuchen's cake in the 1990s when my Japanese friend bought me a box from Japan.Since then,a box of Baumkuchen's cake is always my request as a souvenir from my many Japanese friends coming to Singapore. And when it opened in Toa Payoh ,i was very excited and went hunting specially for this shop.Had the green tea cake and was disapponted that it was not as soft as the version my friends bought from Japan,in fact it tasted dry and sweet to me.Maybe it is the process in making the c

Had the green tea cake and was disapponted that it was not as soft as the version my friends bought from Japan,in fact it tasted dry and sweet to me.Maybe it is the process in making the cake as i could see hugh rolls are being exposed to air when i went to this outlet for the first time just like they are trying to dry the rolls of cake!

I didn’t intend to buy the cold noodles. Heck, I didn’t even know it existed. I only found out about the cold noodles on my hunt for baumkuchen.

At first when I reached the shop I thought I was at the wrong shop because the last time I was there they don’t sell any noodles. I was very tempted to try the noodles because the smell of the noodles was tickling my senses and I saw many people eating the noodles.

I hesitated for a long time before deciding to buy the Dolphin. It has prawn, quail eggs, sesame, carrot slices and lettuce, a whole lot of them. The noodles are covered with miso sauce. It has a very strong smell. On the train, the smell kept escaping the container and into my nose tempting my poor hungry stomach.

The Dolphin is surprisingly good. The prawn is very sweet and it goes great with the sesame seeds. Also, there is A LOT of lettuce of different kinds. I don’t like the purple ones.

The Dolphin has too much lettuce and it’s a little spicy. Otherwise, I think that it’s a very special, since I’ve never seen it before until now, and healthy food. It’s great for hot days too.

No surprise, then, that baumkuchen actually translates to "tree cake". Like its lookalike kueh lapis, baumkuchen is painstakingly baked layer by layer, except that this is all performed on a rotating spit.

Although the layers of my Classic original オリジナル baumkuchen were visually well-defined, this was not the case taste-wise. On its own, it tasted similar to a butter cake, and could have been more buttery and moist. Thankfully, the cake was coated with a layer of refreshing lemon frosting that helped to liven up its flavor.

While I felt that Wheat Baumkuchen's cakes please the eyes more than the tastebuds, I wouldn't mind trying some of the other innovative baumkuchen flavors it offers, such as durian, green tea and Nutella almond.

It's supposed to be a layered cake, it reminded me of the kueh lapis and the significant difference is baumkuchen is in a shape of circle. Honestly i think it tasted quite similar to kueh lapis too but baumkuchen is of german origin. I decided to try this out of curiosity. I ordered a piece of the original flavor. If you have not try it then you might want to give it a go. There are other flavor for your selection.

But this might be a one time off experience for myself.

I have ordered their classic one ($2.80 for a slice - exp right?). To be frank, i felt that it tasted quite average, a bit like kuen lapis actually. Although its tasted quite normal only but its definitely a good snack for health concious consumer like me.

I bought one for my mom too but she didnt really like it too.

This japanese cake is recommended from New City Beat 2 TV Programme. Curious to try it out after seeing the TV Programme. The place looks bright with white deco concept and the cakes display in a row which looks very neat. The cake is soft and not oily, totally different from kuah lapis. Even though both have many layers, but kuah lapis is more oily.
