Persian Delights With Bobby Chinn
Shiraz Authentic Persian Cuisine
2010-10-21
It was a contest collaboration between TLC (Travel & Living Channel) & OpenRice. Was honoured to be 1 of the 2 OpenRicers to win this dinner.I was even more star-struck when Bobby Chinn sat right beside me during dinner!!! We were served with 6 Persian dishes (see images). I have to be honest that the yoghurt drink didn't go well with me. It was too saltish. Maybe they can reduce the salt & add more dried mint leaves instead. My favourites were the Hummus with Naan, Khoresht-E-Bamieh & Persian ice cream.HummusA combination of garbanzo beans with tahina, garlic, lemon with a touch of olive oil. How do you eat this? Tear a piece of Naan and use it to scoop up the hummus.Khoresht-E-Bamieh The popular stew "Okra-The Lady Finger" in tomato base. This went really well with the tumeric steamed rice. Whets your appetite even more due to its tangy/sourish/saltish aftertaste.Persian ice creamThis home style ice cream was flavoured with saffron, topped with pomegranate seeds & pistachio chunks. It has a unique taste. Those who are particular with food might not like this. I love it cos it's very refreshing. It helped to wash down all the savoury flavours of the previous dishes from your palate.I would like to try the sheesha the next time I'm there! …Read More

Dinner At The Beach
Café del Mar
2010-10-21
I've always been to Cafe del Mar during the day for suntanning, a round of drinks & snacking on finger food but never at night.I'm quite impressed by the variety of dishes on the menu.During this ORTU, we were pampered with 8 of their dishes that were specially selected by Kenath Low. My favourites were the Penne Carbonara & Baked Pacific Dory.Penne Carbonara - The salty bacon went well with the cream sauce. It was savoury, yet it wasn't "jelak" (rich).Baked Pacific Dory - It doesn't have that fishy smell that some fish dishes have. Very fragrant due to the infused garlic butter. The dory is moist and tender. The confit cherry tomatoes & wasabi mashed are to die for!Despite having to travel to an island off Singapore, it was worth every bite during dinner. Thank you for having me at ORTU! ^_^(Photos courtesy of OpenRice Singapore)…Read More

Are you cerious enough?
Once Upon A Milkshake
2010-10-20
I've tried a few flavours of their milkshakes but I still love the Cerious Maple one. It may be too sweet for some but I like it! It's as if you're having cereal with maple syrup! The ice-cream is yummylicious too! You gotta try for yourself to believe it! They close at 11pm daily so you won't have to worry if you can't make it down to OUAM.…Read More

Western Chow - Where Oldies Are Goodies
Western Chow
2010-08-03
When I first stepped into Western Chow, I felt totally at home. Since white was the main colour of the restaurant, it made the place very spacious and welcoming. The Mashed Potato Salad with Ham was refreshing and crunchy. Every bite had a mixture of potato, ham & crispy cucumber slices. It was a fantastic appetizer! The Ox-tail Stew was very fragrant with a generous portion of gravy, potatoes, carrots and of course ox-tail meat. The meat was tender and came off easily from the bone. It did not have any pungent smell. Very well-cooked indeed. The Root Beer Float was awesome! It arrived in a tall glass with a huge scoop of ice-cream! Best consumed after mixing the ice-cream with the root beer. Heaven~! I enjoyed my dinner at Western Chow. An affordable Western Food restaurant in cozy Simpang Bedok which opens til late. I will visit again soon! …Read More
