Fondly known amongst Singapore males as the Army Market, Golden Mile Food Centre offers a myriad of awesome hawker food. Chief among them would be Yew Chuan Claypot Rice. Its popularity attested to by the long queues during mealtimes each day.

Given the traditional means of preparation, authentic Claypot Rice is probably not for someone looking for a quick bite. To bring out the flavours within the rice and meats, each pot is prepared on order, and simmered over charcoal fire for the best tastes, taking approximately 15mins each. Depending on the number of people sharing (or the size of your appetite if you are going solo), there are a range of sizes to choose from: $5, $10, $15, $20, $25. Just as a rough guide, a $15 pot would probably suffice for a group of 3.

At Yew Chuan Claypot Rice, the stall owner is lavish with ingredients, the pot of rice is peppered with chunks of chicken, chinese sausage and salted fish, lathered in a dark soya sauce. The effort that goes into preparation is evident, when the aroma just hits you when the dish is served to you at your table. The charred bits at the side of the pot can also be scraped off and eaten, given that sinful burnt crunch.

To top off the meal, one can also opt for vegetables cooked in sesame oil, which goes smoothly with the charred flavour of the claypot rice.
