In case if you are still wondering where did the good old 89 Zion Road Cze Char went to, well, they are right here located in the heart of Serangoon Gardens. I'm quite skeptical having steamed fish in Hawker Centre and always try avoiding such dishes but since Siang Hee has a reputable name, we gave the Garlic Steamed Fish a try. We all knew that the need required to prepare a fish dish can be long with steaming process and least expectingly, it came first on our table. Fish was absolutely fresh and steamed to perfection with tender white meat lending some nods from us. Black Soya Sauce as well as Ginger Strips gave additional fragrance to the dish, not mentioning the aromatic fried garlic too!

This is the star of the night. From articles of the media, Pork Knuckle is not to be missed here. It did really sweep my feet off! If you are wondering if they taste like the German Pork Knuckle, I would say they are better in terms of crispiness and not too hard, yet retaining the moisture as well as the required succulence. Dipped these pieces into the given sweet spicy sauce and enjoy the tender bites. Yums!

Oyster Egg Omelette on the hotplate was nothing but rather standard. Egg was quite watery topped with few pieces of big oysters and garnished with fried garlic. Perhaps it would be a better choice to grab some oysters egg from its direct neighbour stall if you are craving for such dish.

Though there were long lists of order before us, queuing was a breeze. The order taking Aunty was friendly and promised that it would not take us long before the food was served. Overall experience was good and we left with a satisfying stomach.

This famous Zi Char that has been featured a lot on media. The first recommended dish, Deep Fried Trotters was superb and easily surpassed the one from Simpang Bedok. The skin was crispy but not hard--we could even chew the entire bone. The meat remained moist and not too dry. But the second recommended dish, Pumpkin Cream Prawns, lacked any fragrance and the cream can easily be written off as "corn cream" instead of pumpkin. Prawns were nonetheless, fresh, crunchy and not greasy. San Lao Hor Fu

Prawns were nonetheless, fresh, crunchy and not greasy. San Lao Hor Fun was tasty but nothing extraordinary and short of the wok-hei aroma. "where's the sambal?" was my first reaction when I saw the watery pool of Sambal Sweet Potato Leaves. Non-spice eaters commented that it was spicy but I thought it was still miles away. More sambal belachan would make this really "shiok".

Hence, our favourite dish that day was none other than this plate of finger-lickin pig legs.

Business was roaring during our Sunday visit. The Lao Ban Niang, was humorous and very friendly. She quipped in Chinese, "Want to take photo ah? wait ah..." and went back into the kitchen, placed a few curry leaves on the pumpkin prawns before serving it to us. "You all got more people, so this Hor Fun is actually $8 size" (we ordered a $6 Hor fun)

How often can we meet such a nice auntie??? And the food is priced very reasonably.

$47 for 5 pax.

The FoodI ordered the Butter Cream Prawns with Pumpkin Sauce ($12). The prawns were very crispy and crunchy which taste more to tempura prawns, the buttery sauce quite thick and strong hence really can't taste any pumpkin but did taste quite differently.Next I ordered Specialty Beancurd topped up with some mushroom, carrots and gourds ($8). Had a slight crisp on top and the soft tau foo literally melts in my mouth and was also very nice and tasty. Lastly I ordered the Deep Fried Pork Knuckle ($1

I ordered the Butter Cream Prawns with Pumpkin Sauce ($12). The prawns were very crispy and crunchy which taste more to tempura prawns, the buttery sauce quite thick and strong hence really can't taste any pumpkin but did taste quite differently.
Next I ordered Specialty Beancurd topped up with some mushroom, carrots and gourds ($8). Had a slight crisp on top and the soft tau foo literally melts in my mouth and was also very nice and tasty. Lastly I ordered the Deep Fried Pork Knuckle ($15) which was very crispy with crackling skin, slightly on a dry side, no traces of oil with a very simple light sweet sauce. The first few bites tasted wonderful but can get overpowering taste of the spice after a few bites.

The Price
Reasonably priced at $40++ for the whole bill

Overall
I will definitely come back again and highly recommended to try this!
