Chicken Broth with Tomatoes and Handmade Chicken Balls
perfumed with lemongrass and basil
For the Entree, there was 2 choices available but I had selected this as the weather was cold and wet. The dish was served with the pipping hot soup poured over the meatballs in front of me. The dish itself looked not bad. But the meatballs were over-seasoned and tasted quite salty.

Pan-Fried Fillet of Seabass with Caramelised Pineapple Sauce
haricot verts and tomato buttered rice
For the main course, there was 2 choices but I had selected this as the other choice was spicy and I did not feel like having spicy food. It was a good choice as I overheard the staffs telling customers that the restaurant had ran out of the fish after I had ordered.

The rice was quite flavourful but not evenly cooked. I could taste a few undercooked grains. The fish was well cooked and fresh.

Creme Brulee Ice-Cream
chocolate genoise, chocolate crumble, fresh orange segments and orange diplomat cream
For the dessert, there was no choice to select. I had waited quite long for the dessert to be served. Seem that the kitchen could not handle the load. When the dessert was finally served, I was disappointed to find that the scoops of ice cream were all melted. I almost wanted to ask for a replacement. As I did not tend to wait any longer, so I did not ask for a replacement. The brownie was soft and moist.

The set lunch was served with a cup of coffee or tea. But I had top up $1 to upgrade the drink to a hot chocolate. It tasted not bad although I would prefer a richer one.
I was surprised to be presented with the bill without asking. Kind of being pressured to leave the restaurant. Maybe they need the table as the restaurant was packed that day.

I loved the crust and it went well with the tomato sauce. The ravioli was filled with cheesey goodness and it was hot. The asparagus was bit too stiff for my liking. The veal strangely tasted more like chicken.

All mains came with tumeric-infused rice with raisins, I couldn't really taste the tumeric, but the raisins were big and sweet and it added flavour to the rice.

Creme Brulees from L'rez never fail to amaze me. It is always cooked to perfection! The ice cream on top isn't too sweet, and the crust is just thin enough for you to break it with your tea spoon. It was sweet, smooth and superb all the way through the bottom of the dish! Perfect ending to a perfect fine dining lunch set!

The cappucino and mocha were nicely presented but both lacked flavour. Tasted more like an instant coffee with too much water.

All in all, every meal at L'rez has always ended on a high note and I would love to come back to see what else these NYP students have in store for our tummies!

Located in block F of the Nanyang Polytechnic school, there is a small restaurant on the third floor. It is a training restaurant for students who are doing Diploma in Food & Beverage Business. The fourth time I call up and is told that the restaurant is full for reservations but they still accept walk-in on a first come first in basic. So I decide to try my luck. But imagine when I walk in, I am surprised to find that only a third of the tables are occupied and the crowd is almost the same throughout the whole meal. The dining in area looks quite stylish and wide.

It offers 3-course set lunch, priced at $12 for public and $10 for staff and students. The set lunch includes a choice of starter, a choice of main course, a dessert of the day and a choice of coffee or tea. The menu is changed regularly.

Chicken Corn Chowder
Served with buttered thyme crouton
As it has been a cold day, I have selected this choice as it is served hot. It tastes thick and creamy with lots of crunchy sweet corns in it.

Miso Glazed Salmon

Served with roasted asparagus, lemon scented crumbled tofu, wasabi butter sauce
The salmon is well cooked, although I could not taste any miso on it, and goes quite well with the strong wasabi butter sauce. The tofu is crispy on the outside and soft and silky inside. The only disappointment in this dish turns out to be the asparagus. It is overly salty, especially the tip parts. As I only has a fork and the blunt fish knife, it is also difficult to cut it into smaller pieces.

Dessert of the Day

Due to the festive season, the kitchen has specially served this dessert. It is consists of 3 different layers : raspberry compote on the bottom, followed by chocolate pea mousse, with a top layer of peppermint jelly. It is topped with a scoop of cranberry sorbet.
It is a interesting dessert which tastes sour, sweet, crunchy and smooth in a mouthful. It is my first time having green pea in dessert. One can really taste the pea in it.

For a topup of $1, I have changed the coffee to a latte. It does not come with the usual latte art that is usually found these days. More like the traditional way and served in clear glass. I am disappointed that there is no distinct layers of coffee, milk and foam in the drink. The foam is barely there. The drink is average in taste.

Mango Pistachio Lassi - Yoghurt based drink with a tinge of spice ($3)
Mango Milk, Yogurt, Cardamom & Pistachios
The restaurant also offers mocktails at $3 nett and the staff recommends me to try the Mango Pistachio Lassi. Due to the jam at the drink counter, the drink is finally served to me while I am having my main course. It tastes quite thick and creamy, with bits of mango and crunchy pistachios in it. A very yummy drink.

Overall the food is not bad. Best of all it is a super valued meal. One can never get such a price for a 4-course meal outside. The staffs are quite friendly and often come around to ask for feedback. Service is abit slow, especially when serving the drinks. It seems like there is only one staff making the drinks, and cannot handle it. Overall it is still a nice place to come over for lunch.
Other Info. : Operating Period : 7 Oct 2014 - 11 Feb 2015 Operating Hours : 10.30am - 2.30pm (Last Order : 2pm)

For my main course, I had the salmon as they had run out of oven baked chicken leg.. The salmon was so tender and had almond toppings, the salmon ikura was very fresh and tasted just like the ones you get on ikura gunkans
The pan roasted asparagus was very soft and surprisingly flavourful. The lemon scented crumbed tofu was really yummy and crispy, it had a nice touch to it. You could tell that the students put alot of effort into making the dish.

For dessert, I had cinnamon creme brulee, it was all they had to offer. The burnt cinnamon creme brulee was perfect done and the banana ice cream wasn't too sweet, and complimented the sweet burnt creme brulee top. It was a very pleasant dessert and I wish that I could order that dessert again
It put a really big smile on my face

My friends had the oven baked chicken leg which was very tender and the mushroom rice was so good, I found it addictive. For appetizer, they had the corn chowder.

Despite it's small portions.. You will slowly enjoy and appreciate the work the students put into making the dish... For the lemon tart Dessert, it came with a sweet coconut side that complimented the sourness of the lemon. The sticky date cake was the biggest surprise... We were in love with it.. It was sweet and the vanilla ice cream helped blend in the smooth and creamy taste into the sticky date cake! I would totally have it again... Sadly though, the menu changes and everytime you walk into the restaurant.. You can only have two choices for main dishes.. So check up online or call in to ask what they are offering... Additonally, make a reservation or be prepared to be turned down at the entrance.
