Brand new year with a kick off start of post birthday celebration for cousin's birthday, Carmen. She recommended this place for steamboat celebration. House of Steamboat aka 火锅之家 located at Bugis. Walking Distance from Bugis MRT Station. This steamboat place provides two areas of dining which is air-con area and non air-con area. We choose air-con area but then the air-con was not on until more people flocking into the shop. There are different type of soup base for us to choose. We ordered Mother Hen Chinese Herbal Soup and Fish Bone Chinese Herbal Soup on that day.We all can't take spicy stuffs so we go for the two choices. In case you would like to know, below are the choices of soup base available :-Mother Hen Chinese Herbal Soup (Good aphrodisiac tonic soup)Fish Bone Chinese Herbal Soup (Good aphrodisiac tonic soup)Traditional Chinese (Ma-Lak) Spicy soupAuthentic Tom Yam SoupTraditional Hot & Spicy SoupTraditional Chinese Herbal Pork Belly SoupSome snapshots of the foods that are available for steamboats:-There are dory fish slices, mutton & beef slices, pork slices and chicken slices. The thickness of the meats are nicely slice and it is just nice to dip into the hot soup. The meats are fresh and marbling is nice as well.Mantou with evaporated milk which deep fried on the outer and soft in the inner of the mantou. The evaporated milk enhance the sweetness of the mantou. There are varieties from luncheon meat, fishcake, meatballs, fish ball, vegetables and much more. Snapshots for your viewing pleasure The overall dining experience was pleasant as the service was good. There is free flow drinks as well. One thing that i would like to highlight is that they (staff) respond promptly when we called for services or order. continue reading

I met up with a large group of NS friends to have a steamboat meal. It was partly my fault that we ended up eating such lousy steamboat. It was lousy beyond imagination. Anyway, it was the company of my friends which made the eating experience slightly better, but not the food. Anyway, I will never come back to this place again. After we seated down, we were served a couple of complimentary dishes. It was only 1 round, not like other steamboat outlets around Bugis, it is freeflow! The first was the fried mantou with condense milk, I supposed. It was not fired enough as it does not have that crisp texture and feeling when I bite into it. The next dish was the chillied drumsticks. It was spicy and some of my friends liked it. I noticed many chili seeds on the drumsticks. It is because they are too lazy to remove them? Anyway, it was spicy enough to make me want to drink water. I ended up drinking some really diluted syrup drinks from the drinks dispenser.Next was the fake scallop and fried spring rolls. Haiz, it was as horrible. It tasted soggy and seems like they had beenfried and left there for a period of time before being served to us. I hate it when I see oil seeping out of the spring rollstoo. The raw dishes were ordered by ticking on a piece of laminated paper and the choices are rather limited. It just feels so pathetic and some of the raw fish slices were unfresh. Writing this post made me feel like I am complaining all the way, and it is true anyway. Last but not least, I want to whine about the freaking soup. The so-called tom yam soup was tasteless and almost not spicy at all. They could as well give us plain water and we add in our own chilli and it would even be better. continue reading

When we first arrived at the restaurant, we were also presented with a platter of hot appetizers which included fried mantous doused in condensed milk, fried spicy chicken drumlets, processed scallops and fried dumplings. All were tasty and opened up our appetites. Again, I suppose it was done to differentiate themselves from the rest of the steamboat places in the vicinity. They provided a variety of soup-bases from which we chose the spicy Mala soup and pork belly soup. Personally, I liked the super-spicy soup base at herebut my dining partners who have a more localized palate preferred the one from other steamboat stall. continue reading

House of steamboat is one my of choice of place to have steamboat as price is slightly cheaper than other steamboat place and best part is there is free flow of drinks. Unlike other place , servings of meat was not self service but had to order from waitress which might make it a little inconvenient for we had to keep calling for the waitress. Overall good experience there , great recommended place for girlfriend gathering continue reading
