Introduction
CA California captures the Californian spirit of food -casual, laid back and wholesome. First inspired by the Rustic Old-World beauty of Dempsey Hill, the owner was reminded of his happy days at California and the amazing fresh unpretentious good food he enjoyed. Artisan bread is baked freshly here and the freshness of the food stands out as sauces and seasonings are used sparingly. continue reading

Saw this deal in Groupon - $20 for $40 Worth of Western Cuisine at CA California in Dempsey, was captivated by the beautiful pictures of brunch specials. Bought the deal and went there with love <3. The restaurant looked pretty cool from the exterior and is comfy in the interior. I ordered the ‘Nothing Beats the BDBH’, with a choice of sunny side up or scrambled egg, maple bacon or honey baked ham along with baked potatoes, mushrooms, sausage, baked beans and toast. The scrambled egg was cooked just right and it was soft and fluffy! I also ordered a pizza, unlike thick crusted pizza, CA* California’s pizza is thin crusted therefore it is very crispy and not filling. continue reading

Located amidst a tranquil and laid back setting right in the heart of Dempsey Hill, CA California is where you could consider spending a lazy Saturday afternoon catching up with friends. The food is great though there is definitely room for improvement service wise.Roasted Hanger Steak ($24.90++)Topped with caramelised shallots, this dish epitomised the unique combination of sweet with savory. The beef was springy and juicy, making each bite bursting with flavours. The mustard béarnaise sauce was a good complement to the beef as well. Highly recommended! Smokin’ Turkey & Mango Sandwich ($15.80++)The turkey & mango sandwich was quite refreshing and tasty. The stacks of thinly sliced smoked turkey ham, fresh mango slices and rocket salad sandwich between two spongy pieces of tomato focaccia was a joy to savour. For those who prefer a stronger flavour, just drizzle the honey mustard dressing over and it’ll taste perfect! The only downside we experienced was the slow service (we had to call out to the waiter more than 3 times to get our water refilled and that’s not during peak hours >.<). The waiters/waitresses seemed to dawdle around without paying much attention to the customers. Overall, a pretty decent hang out place that’s worth visiting a second time! continue reading

My friend and I made a reservation at this restaurant at 7pm on 12th April. As what others have said, this is actually in the same vicinity as Ben&Jerry. However, I overheard the staff telling other customers that Ben & Jerry and California's bill are different so they would have to order separately. When we entered the restaurant (we were around 5minutes earlier). We went into the restaurant, but it took a few minutes (probably around 2 minutes) before the staff realised that there are customers. We were seated shortly after that. Made our orders promptly and I would say, the speed of service for the food was really fast. After seated down, we glance through the restaurant and the ambience was good. It gives you the old feeling, like vintage kind of thing.Turkey Ham and Mushroom Pasta. This dish cost around $17.90 (If I did not remember wrongly, but it's around the price). Even though for a dish like pasta, the price seems a little steep but afterall, it's at Dempsey and that the portion for turkey ham was really a lot making it worth while! It was in huge chunks as well. There were also a lot of mushroom. This would definitely be worth ordering if you ever go to this restaurant.Cocktail: Cosmopolitan. I would say the taste of Cherry was too strong for this drink making it doesn't taste as nice.Mocktail: Peach Cobbler. This taste fantastic even though it was in a way, a little sour. But it was worth to try.We ordered a soup of the day. It was some chicken soup with carrot. The soup was acceptable. However, the biscuit on top of the soup was rather hard. So, therefore, I would not recommend. The pizza was alright and what surprised us was the 2 eggs on top of the pizza as we have not tried anything like this. The ingredients on the pizza was rather fulfilling. Definitely worth to try it. continue reading

Was looking for a casual dinner after our usual drinks at Wine Company at dempsey and realised every restaurants are pretty ex there.. we werent very hungry too so this was kinda lke the cheapest place we found around here.. the place shares the same area as Ben's and Jerry's.. must say the food isnt fantastic even though the pizza looks quite yummy with the egg on top.. but its rather tasteless. My chicken wrap was quite alright and satisfying... the yummy thing was the guacamole and salsa.. I guess if u r on a budget and wants a value for money place to eat at dempsey this is it. Could be a nice place for teenage gathering.. a tad too noisy for me though.. continue reading
