Family dinner at The CASTEL cafe. This cafe is in the Ang Mo Kio neighbourhood and it sells mainly pizza, spaghetti and baked rice. It is a casual dinning place and the most important factor is that they offer these food at neighbourhood price, with no service charge and GST. Each main course cost about $6 to $10, which is cheap as compared to other cafe which sells Italian food.I ordered chicken baked rice which cost $8. It has quite a thick layer of cheese on top of the rice. However, it lacks the aroma and taste. My mum ordered Buongustaio pasta. It cost $6. It is penne pasta mix with mushroom, chicken, onion in cream sauce. My mum complained that the penne is quite hard. I tried a bite and indeed it is quite hard. The chef should cooked it longer so that the penne can be softer so that more sauce will be soaked in it. The sauce was not that creamy which was good, but they gave very little sauce.I would not recommend this dish as i feel that dish that penne as the pasta should have more sauce so that penne could be soaked and i will prefer it being soggy with more sauce. If you would want to try this dish, perhaps request for the penne pasta to be cooked longer My dad ate carbonara with spaghetti as the pasta. It tasted nice just that the portion is quite small and not that filling. However, pricing at $6, i think it is reasonable. continue reading

Located in the neighbourhoods of Ang Mo Kio is the CASTEL cafe. They specialises in pasta and pizza, but does sell other western food too.The smell of cream sauce was in the air as the Carbonara arrived piping hot. The cream sauce though light, carried just the right amount of flavour. Bacon was nicely cooked and was rather chewy.Panna Cotta with Chocolate was pretty light and refreshing, however it would have been a bit better off if it was firmer. Rated: 8/10The lamb chop tasted pretty good,The pepper sauce for the chop was very well done, it was not too salty or too spicy. The portion was fine for me, but my boyfriend found the portion too small compared to the one we had at Toa Payoh. The toasted bread was our favourite part of the dish. It was very AWESOMEEE!! It had a special spread which we could not figure out what it was, it was abit sour and very appetizing to start the whole dish. Tasted good when dipped with the pepper sauce!!There was not any fries, it was replaced by potato salad which makes it slightly healthier than your usual western food meal. The taste of everything was not heavy too.Price was quite reasonable, the whole set was less than 10 dollars!!However, we waited for 30 minutes for the food to be served. It was very long but I guess it was because they wanted to serve all 3 dishes at the same time (I was dining with my BFF and BF that time )Lovely and clean environment. Great service. Will come back again continue reading

Quattro Formaggi Pizza : Mixed cheese and tomato We bought the Large which was $12. Very very worth it. And very good too! Even though it is mixed cheese, these wasn't a very pungent cheese smell. ( i dont think asians like me fancy a very pungent smell in our food ) neither was the taste. The taste was just nice, and right out from the oven, it is the best! Turkey Sunshine : Turkey ham, egg, eggplant, mozzarella, tomato sauce My partner and I personally did not really like it, as the eggplant was juicy but made the pizza bread part soggy and a bland taste (pizza should have a very strong taste no?) Anyway that is our preference. But the presentation was very cute with the egg at the center.Bacon Aglio : Bacon, chilli and garlic in olive oil sauceSimple Dish. Bacon not the real bacon, strong oil and garlic flavor and chilli taste. Would had preferred if real bacon strips was used. continue reading

Had my all time favorite pasta here! Its called the Buongustaio pasta which is made up of mushroom, chicken, onion in cream sauce mixed with fusili pasta! Love it and its super affordable at just 6 dollars for this plate of goodness! The cream sauce wasnt too creamy and would not give a horrible aftertaste after eating too much and the ingredients were well mixed into the pasta!Love it!Will come back for more!! continue reading
