Mushroom Pasta Wagyu

Ah, today was an interesting day for me. Besides my virgin try at sampling french food in a coffeshop, I was approached by a filming crew for a local chinese documentary on current affairs for a little interview. Le Cuisson is located in a corner of the coffeshop here, which might be a bit easy to miss. As a first try, I ordered the mushroom pasta main course ($8), which is actually the cheapest main. I was also attracted to the offer of a free soup or salad with any main course ordered for lunch. They had no soup for the day, so I was given a bowl of salad.Presentation-wise, the food looked good. The salad given was quite a substantial bowl, with "higher-grade" fresh salad items like rocket leaves and purple lettuce. It was drizzled with a tangy, mustard vinaigrette sauce. Nice! The al dente pasta came with nicely roasted mushrooms with a lovely poached egg atop. Although the description of the dish stated a cream sauce, I felt it tasted more like butter was used in the cooking and not much cream. Hence, it was a tad oily for my taste. Overall, it's still a pretty good pasta dish though Will re-visit the place if I'm up for french food again. At least I feel more of my $ goes into the quality of the food.- Mushroom Pasta- Salad continue reading

My friend recommended me to try this stall for french food after i told her i want to explore different type of cuisine. Located at a corner of the coffee shop, it looks just like any other hawker food stall and can be easily walk passed. Their menu are quite limited, which i think could be because they want to focuse on quality. I ordered a Australian Barramundi as the Pot Roast Chicken was not available. After paying, i was told to return after 10 minutes to collect my food. i was pleasantly surprise that they uses heavy white porcelain dinnerware to serve their food, which shows their pursue of real authentic quality italian fare. The salad with kaffir lime leaf dressing was fresh, the skin of the barramundi was real crispy yet the juiciness of the meat was maintained. The only flaw was that the skin was really salty (there was still bits of salt on it). The orzo pasta (pasta shaped like rice grains) was well flavoured and cooked to the right texture. They have a current promotion where each main course comes with a choice of free salad or soup of the day. My soup of the day was tomato soup. It came satisfyingly hot. The soup was well flavoured and really sweet (i presume they uses good quality sweet tomato as i have tried tomato soup from other places and they were sweet and sour). I did not regret trying this. continue reading

Click : www.dairycream.blogspot.sg for full review! The 3rd part of the affordable french food series is none other than Le Cuisson, a hawker stall in Holland Drive near Buona Vista MRT, selling French food at a really good deal. The chef used to be work under DB Bistro at MBS and you know that the quality of the food here will not go too wrong. $8 Mushroom Cream PastaI added $1 for the additional Truffled Oil for the $8 Mushroom Cream Pasta. It was one of the best pasta ever had in Singapore, no joke. The portion is generous and not too dry. We poked the runny egg and mixed everything up like Rojak. The taste was so good that it even convinced those who don't really like western food. Highly recommend this dish..plus the oil Angus Hampshire Beef with Crushed Potatoes, Confit Shallots and Garlic ($18)The beef ragout with ravioli was not available and thus we went for the Angus Hampshire Beef with Crushed Potatoes, Confit Shallots and Garlic ($18) . The chef shared with us that it was medium rare but we felt that perhaps the fire was inconsistent as half was overdoned and tough while the remaining meat was still pinkish. The mash potato was undeniably as good as DB bistro, Saveur and many other placesMeanwhile, the Sous Vide Pork Neck with crushed corn & mash $15 was lightly seasoned and slightly chewy. I appreciate that the Pork Neck was done Sous Vide because it is healthier and retains some juicyness. That said, while the meat mains are fairly decent, as a "fishy" person, I will still pick fish if I return. There is also no chicken on the menu. Although the main courses here around the same price as Saveur and cheaper than Poulet, it was a pity that there was no desserts were on the menu (guess it will add on to the preparation time) Nonetheless, I think this place is really ideal for the French fix and the passionate young chef here deserves our support. Do note that the menu changes. Enjoy!www.dairycream.blogspot.sg continue reading

There was a short queue in front of us. The menu was limited and it was pasted on the left wall, which makes it difficultfor us to order. As the 2 of us have not really tried French food before, we decided to order 3 dishes to share. I heard that this outlet's menu changes based on what the chefs found fresh in the market. The catch of the day on that day was sea bass, yellow tail and another fish. We took the sea bass. After we ordered, we went to find a table to have a seat. After some time, I remembered that it was self service and we ended up eating it cold. The first thing that caught myattention was the microgreens and the beige sauce mixing with the rice. It looks attractive in a way. The fish was reallyfresh but the piece was kind of small. As for the rice, it is quite hard, my friend and I were not sure if it was supposed to be that way, and we were not used to it. We had steak with marshed potato. My friend was not a fan of greens, so I ended up eating most of them. The steak was managable and juicy. The potato was rather soft, and it feels liquidity. If only there were more sauce for the steak as well as the potato, that would be awesome. This is the dish that I have been eyeing for long. Foie gras salad. Foie gras is normally an expensive dish, but since this is in a coffee shop, I must try it! We spilt the piece into 2, and both of us savour it slowly. It was nice! I love the fats melting slowly in my mouth, and I don't mind eating more of it. As for the veggie part, I ate most of it. However there was an improvement for my firend as he actually ate some pieces of veggie! continue reading

For full write up & photos, please visit my blog: http://aspirant1981.wordpress.com/2012/02/10/food-french-cuisine-kopitiam-style-singapore/ or follow me on twitter for regular food reviews: https://twitter.com/Aspirant81We ordered the full + half portion of their Selection of Artisan Bread for our table of 4 which turns out to be a little too much. The breads were served warmed & french butter melts readily into the soft bread. Not outrageously amazing but decent enough. The Roasted Mushroom Soup was well textured and a little salty. Probably due to the use of Truffle Sea Salt Cream. For our mains, we went straight for the meat dishes. 3 of us had the Grilled 150 Day Grain Fed Angus Steak (cos the Blackmore Wagyu Steak was out of stock) comes with Mesclun Salad, pomme puree, Green peppercorn sauce. The beef was a good mix of lean meat & fat and goes really well with the sauce.I would have preferred my beef to be medium rare but the chefs have decided to standardise all beef treatment to medium. Not too sure why. One of my friends further commented that the Truffle Salt was more prominent when he patronised the stall for the same main a few days ago.The Lamb stew with Merguez Sausage was delectable. The lamb was ultra tender, it flakes with a fork and melts in your mouth. The sausages were a little salty but delicious still. The portion however was quite small for a guy hence must order the artisan bread….Overall a pleasurable dining experience where we enjoyed quality french cuisine at a very reasonable prices. You may also like to check out my posts on other delicious food places: http://aspirant1981.wordpress.com/restaurants-cafe-eateries-food-list/ continue reading
