It has been a long while since I last have a meal here. Today decide to have lunch with family in here. The place is packed but we are swiftly showed to a booth table.Hotate Nabe Wazen ($16.90++)Half shell scallop & assorted vegetables in miso stock, mini chicken teriyaki rice bowl, salmon sashimi, chawanmushi & fruits. The set is filled with a bit of everything. A mini hotpot over a hot stove which gives well flavoured vegetables after soaking in the flavourful soup. The juicy sweet chicken pieces in the rice bowl. The thick slices of salmon sashimi. The smooth steam egg custard with lots of items in it. And ends with juicy slices of orange. Overall a filling meal.Paitan Tonkotsu Ramen & Yakimeshi Set ($15.90++)Mini paitan tonkotsu ramen & roast pork fried rice served with gyoza (3pcs)The ramen is tasty without too salty soup base. The fried rice is well cooked but I would prefer it to be served hot. The gyoza is quite juicy inside.Bacon Maki ($2.40++)Cereal turkey bacon, egg crepe, shrimp roe, mayonnaiseIt is a interesting combination and tasty too.Yellow Submarine Maki ($2.40++)Crab stick, shrimp roe, mayonnaise, spring onionIt is a crispy and yummy combination.Overall the food is not bad. Service is great. Little JJ pours water all over the table. The quick thinking staff quickly comes over to clear the mess. Used plates are cleared swiftly after eating too. continue reading

In need of a quick dinner bc catching a 730pm m0vie 😛.1st in Q, however still need to wait due to seats all occupied.Ordered a Ramen, Fried Rice & a Chicken Katsu for 2pax.Kanitama Ramen came first…Ramen texture is chewy, soup quite tasty but the essence of Kanitama Crabmeat & mushroom omelette was soaked into the soup. Wouldn't order this again.Would order the omelette as a side dish instead for the next visit.Yakimeshi was next, this fried rice was well flavored & filling with lots of crabmeat, egg & meat! Would be better if the meat was more tender 😋Lastly & the best - Chicken Katsu Toji!Crispy, tender katsu plus goodness of the egg & sweet sauce to each bite is simply awesome. The chicken katsu is definitely a must try 😁 continue reading

Furnished in a very traditional-looking style, with thatched roofs and red lanterns hanging from them, the casual restaurant looked fashionably good. Since it seemed they specialise in ramen and boosted of good soup base, I decided to give it a shot.I had a serving of Salmon Sashimi (SGD$9.50) to start off, since I had sashimi cravings (as usual). As expected, it wasn't the extremely fresh and springy type. It was limp in texture, hence I just doused it with loads of wasabi paste and enjoyed the sweet flavor of the raw fish. Then the Paitan Ramen in Tonkotsu Soup (SGD$13.50) was served - with two slices of black pork, seaweed, half a braised egg and bamboo shoots. The soup base was thick and rich in flavor, albeit greasy. The black pork was luscious (mercifully) and the noodles were okay. I had no complaints nor compliments for this dish - it was rather mediocre, despite the fact that I was ravenous. For more detailed information and photos, please feel free to visit:http://thearcticstar.blogspot.sg/2014/08/lunch-at-menichi-japanese-ramen.html continue reading

One of my many favourite hangout places include Men-ichi Japanese Ramen. Have ordered their Kyoto Chashu Ramen, Teriyaki Chicken Salad, Pan-Fried Chicken Gyoza & California Handroll. A casual feast to share between 2 people! Their tonkotsu soup are always rich and wonderful with right balance of pork and chicken porks boiled for over 12 hours. Their handmade noodles are also springy and light without any hint of extra dough presence. Love the quality ingredients they use for all their food items as well. The service are also amazing such that its easy to get staff's attention when you need anything, water are also always refilled efficiently. Truly a great casual dining place to go if you stay near Northpoint! continue reading

Located near the atrium of North Point, Men-ichi Ramen restaurant seems to be always crowded with long queues at the entrance. The interesting thing for this restaurant is that for their Ramen, you can opt to have 2 pieces of Charsiew at a cheaper price, or top up slightly for 5 pieces. This is great for me as I dont like Japanese Charsiew. They offer free up-size of noodles too! Really good deal.I ordered a Paitan Ramen and it was really delicious! The soup is a little milky in color and super flavorful! Their noodles is great as well, springy Ramen noodles at just the right texture. Super yums!At only $12.90 for the Paitan Ramen, I'll say it's super worth! My friend ordered the Wafu Soyu Ramen which I got a sip from. I would say it's not as nice as the Paitan Ramen. The soup looks clearer but it's actually much saltier.A decent meal at a great price. Highly recommended to come & try their ramen! continue reading
