Chinatown has aplenty of dimsum places situated there. With old favourties such as Yum Cha and cheaper options around, it is particularly hard for lesser known and newer outlets to survive in the competition. Hidden in the basement at an area often neglected due to the odd space it shares with an event hall named “The 3rd Space”, it serves as an eatery for both the mall and the event hall. Despite so, it manages to attract a sizeable amount of patrons daily due to its attractive set lunches and somewhat affordable dimsum.Creamy Salted Egg Yolk Bun is something I will never miss out at dim sum places that offer them as it is pretty much my benchmark to find out how detailed and serious the eatery is about the food they serve. Being the first dish served at the table for the entire meal, it set the meal to a good start with the bun being of the right thickness, and having each gap of the inside of the bun fully filled to the brim. The buns had quite a weight to it owing to the amount of custard that was inside the bun, and a small bite is enough to set the custard flowing. The custard was thick enough and flowy, and it was just sheer enjoyment to slurp up the custard with every bite. This was so good that we eventually settled for a second serving, and would be highly recommended for anyone who visits here. The BBQ Pork Rice Roll ($3.90) had less wow-factor with the Chee Cheong Fun being too thick. There however was enough soy sauce to make it savoury, and the BBQ Pork was pretty sweet enough and did not get overshadowed by the other flavours.Pan-fried Carrot Cake ($3.90) was rather bouncy with every bite, but did not carry much fibre. The surface was rather crispy nonetheless.Steamed Prawn Dumplings ($3.90) were also pretty decent here. The skins were crystal-clear yet came off the steamer paper easily. The prawns also felt very fresh and bouncy which gave it a very nice chew.BBQ (Char Siu) Bun ($3.90) seemed smaller as it is compared to other commercial restaurants. Slightly larger than being bite-sized, the skin is of the right thickness which felt proportional as there is no need to bite into the bun too deeply for the Char Siu. The Char Siu is also marinated thoroughly and maintained a nice sweetness throughout. There were also no fatty meat inside, which makes it fare pretty well in texture.Deep Fried Beancurd Pastry ($3.90) was a bit disappointing. It was a tad too oily and seemed to be doused in oil to fry at the wrong temperature. The skin was of a very light colour, and it felt pretty rubbery instead of crispy. While the prawn fillings did made the mark, I would probably still give it a miss the next time due to the bean curd.Crispy Vegetarian Spring Roll ($3.90) had a mix of vegetables that seemed rather different from the usual mix that comes with Spring Rolls from other places. It was an interesting mix that gave a unique taste. They were well fried with crispy skins, but the vegetables inside did not really hit well with me although my friends liked it.Steamed Dumplings ($3.90) were your typical Siew Mai. The ones here comes with a prawn underneath. There is also no fatty meat in here and gave it a good chew. The prawn was also succulent and fresh as well.Beancurd Roll with Superior Sauce ($3.90) was a steamed dish. The Beancurd Roll was better in comparison with the fried variant as it was crispy and tasted better as well, though everything else was pretty standard fare. continue reading

Mad excited because it has been ages since I ate Dim Sum, boyf was anticipating for it too since he loved Dim Sum.We arrived earlier so we can eat more, but I was quite disappointed because there are many restrictions that wasn't stated on the website before we purchase. & also plain water not complementary, costs $0.50Last order at 4PM (though it was stated that buffet was 3-5)Only after you finished your orders, before you can order another round of foodMaximum 3 rounds of orderingCan only maximum order $39.90 worth of food per pax All these restriction makes me feel so time-constrained, I kept stuffing the food with boyf so as to make full use of our vouchers. However, the food was considered good, so I'm not going to complain further. However, do note that all the bun seems to be mini-version as compared to those outside.Good: Egg Tart, Peanut Porridge, Chee-Cheong Fun.Egg Tart - bite-sized, the egg part is smooth and nicePorridge - Smooth, layered with my favourite chicken(?) floss. totally my favourite kind of porridge!Chee-Cheong Fun - It would be awesome without the fillings, outer layer is smooth and sauce is just niceI totally love this few items that I can keep eating more than 3 rounds if there isn't any restrictions.Bad: 莲蓉包& Paper Wrapped Chicken莲蓉包 - Boyf said filling tasted very bad, that he tried to stuff it into my coke so as to avoid extra charges.Paper Wrapped Chicken - Chicken was stuck to the paper and it was quite troublesome to eat it continue reading

We came here for team lunch for my boss' birthday after one of my colleague had tried the food here before and found it not too bad. My verdict is... yea its not too bad, not to shout about but they do have some good and so-so stuff. Prepare for a long list of food =)1. Herbal chicken soup: This double boiled soup is VERY VERY good! I really didnt expect this place to serve such good soup. You can even taste the herbs in the chicken.. they also have the soup of the day so this happens to be on their menu as well. Beware because the soup of the day is more expensive so i had clarified with them on the price so they charged us the cheaper version.2. We ordered the century egg and shredded chicken congee to try. Both are tasty and of a good portion to not be too full for you to try other dishes. 3. Banana red bean fritters: this one is a very unique dish and I wouldnt say its fantastic but could have been better because when i took a bite.. the inside was COLD! =( I think if it was hot inside then should be nicer..The crush putside is light and crispy, quite yummy. 4 & 5: The hargow and siew mai were so-so only.. nothing to rave about.. 6. Xiao long bao: I love xiao long bao and was looking forward to trying it when my colleague who had previously ate here had cautioned me against my expectations. She was right.. the skin was too thick and chewy, too much meat and not enough juice in it. I didnt even want a second piece. 6. Beancurd skin roll: This is one of my favourite dim sum dish and I almost always try it whenever i eat dim sum. I must say this one was not too bad. THe rolls were fresh and juicy and it wasnt too salty. It was good with their chilli!7. Liu Sha bao: Another of my favourite dish and this one was definitely no fight for the one at Victor's kitchen! Firstly, the baos very small.. and the insides was more sweet and has no hint of saltiness from the egg yolk. We went during lunch time and it was quite empty so i guess u can call it a hidden find. Will come back again since i havent really found decent dimsum at raffles place. The service staff were mostly elderly so do be patient with them. =) continue reading
