see my full reviews & photos at = http://chefquak.com/2015/11/07/quick-dinner-after-movie-crystal-jade-lamian-xiaolongbao-great-world-city-on-7nov2015/went with wife to watch the movie “spectre” at gv grand on 7.11.2015.after movie, we a bit “sian” to go zion road food centre, anyway not much to eat there also (don’t think much of zion road char kuay teow even though it is PM’s favourite), & didn’t feel like driving elsewhere for makan, so went down one floor to crystal jade lamian xioalongbao for a quick bite…luckily just waited 5mins at around 9pm.we ordered xiaolongbao小笼包, saliva chicken 口水鸡 & beef brisket noodles 牛腩面.somehow this evening the same dishes didn’t seem as shiok as that at hollandv.beef brisket noodles 牛腩面. the noodles were very good al dente & 爽口& the sauce & flavours were good too.the briskets were quite tasty, but both the briskets & overall taste of the beef brisket noodles 牛腩面 was NOT as good as that at SICC, i think quite a bit NOT as good, not just marginally.also both this beef brisket noodles 牛腩面 & SICC’s & in fact all the beef brisket noodles in singapore do not use the 崩沙腩 which i love in hong kong’s 牛腩面, the belly cuts they used in the hong kong beef brisket noodles.they have layers of collagen 胶 made them very flavourful & gelatinous when braised.these were the cut of briskets which my friend bought in chinatown market, which i also did after learning from her.she brought her fabulous 清汤牛腩 to my place for a for a homecooked 16pax 17-course dinner on 26.8.2015.^^the saliva chicken 口水鸡 always quite good at the hollandv outlet that we usually go.here it was ok too but somehow this evening like not as shiok as expected.just not the same 口感 mouth-feel.always love the xiaolongbao小笼包!you can see the soup inside the xiaolongbao小笼包. it was very tasty & flavourful as always, the skin thin & the fillings very tasty.we ordered a second tray of xiaolongbao小笼包.dinner was S$34nett for 2pax after DBS card 10% discounts.somehow the food this evening just did not feel so shiok, don’t know why. continue reading

As my friend is thinking of having Chinese for dinner, we decide on Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao for dinner before going for movie. As it is a weekday night, there is no much crowd in the restaurant. The restaurant is simply decorated with the tables quite near to each other. The booth seat is a bit worn out and I feel as if I am been sunk in. Of the 3 dishes which we have ordered, the Pork Dumpling with Spicy Chilli Sauce ($7.50++) is served first as the server remarks that it is dim sum dish so it will be faster. Not as spicy as expected and tastes quite juicy.Spinach sautéed with Minced Garlic ($11.80++)This is a quite well cooked dish.We ask again and again about our order. But it is when we have finished the 2 dishes, the Fried Rice with Prawn, Chicken & Ham ($12.80++) is finally served to us. The fried rice is a bit to dry and oily, as well as, lacking of wok hei. And it seem that we are not the only table with this problem. The table next to us, also have waited quite long for their last dish which is the pork trotter. It is served quite sometimes after they have finished everything. Look like they have to do something about timing in the kitchen. continue reading

Xiao long bao is one of the dishes I will order when I visit Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao. However I am not sure if I will continue to so so after this time. The standard used to be quite high and I enjoy myself a lot with the Xiao Long Bao but now I feel that the standard fell by quite a fair bit. The fillings inside are dry and what used to be dripping hot "soup" in the Xiao Long Bao has been replaced but a few drops of oil. The skin is not as thin as before and the meat is mushy and tasted stale. A very disappointing meal I must say. continue reading

I always patronize crystal jade for their consistently good la mian. I especially like their zha jiang mian and find it one of the best around. The noodles are really delicious and are the perfect texture without being neither too soft nor too hard. The sauce is really tasty too coming with a pretty generous amount of tofu and pork meat in it. Eat it while its hot! continue reading

Met my friends for a short gathering and we had ordered some food to share.. and I got myself the fried rice. The rice was served in a mini wok which made it really appealing but the taste was really quite normal. Something which I had eaten at any Cze char but tagged with a higher price.I prefer those fried rice which every grain of rice is coated with the egg. And I think it requires good skill but I failed to get it in this kitchen as of now. continue reading
