To solve my hunger in a quick and convenient way, I decided to take away instead of dining at the coffee shop. Came to Lucky Restaurant near my house, almost all tables were occupied. Their business was always good especially during dinner hours. Space was not too huge for chef, but it was well-maintained and hygiene. There were two helpers and two stoves visible, the waiting time was around 10 minutes. Menu was extensive and flexible, they allowed customer to place special requested order. Talking about my dinner, I opted for my favourite dish. Not thick or too soggy, the familiar starchy red sauce was sweet yet sour tangy taste. Pork was chewy in texture, fatty portion was just in correct ratio. Deep fried before poured on the flavourful gravy, I would say best eaten while it was still hot. Bitten into the meat, little crisp and slightly burnt fragrance was burst out. Add on a bowl of rice, the price was $4.50. Portion was filling, an economy way to settle my dinner. continue reading

Came to this place by mistake, actually wanted to try the white mee fen at block 124 but mistaken "Xing Yun" for "Hong Yun". They also offer white mee fen and is more like fried white bee hoon, nothing close to the sembawang you huak type, more like a chao ta bee hoon version with its crispy base. Setting is in coffeeshop style, the servers aren't as proactive so you actually order at the counter if you dun wan to wait. I ordered the $6 version for 2 to share and also a double egg spinach $8. The white bee hoon also comes with prawns, lean meat, a bit of fried pork lard, fish cake, egg and beansprout. Very average eat, but it does taste better with the chilli padi soy sauce. The spinach dish makes me miss that from Yi Jia South at lorong 7 which has the triple egg version, lucky restaurant's one is only with century egg and salted egg, the soup is more to the bland side in comparison. continue reading
