There are at least three stalls that sells barbecue (BBQ) seafood in Chomp Chomp Food Centre. Of these, I have tried two of the BBQ seafood stalls. And out of these two stalls, there's one which I always prefer to order from. The stall is Chomp Chomp Hai Wei Yuan Seafood BBQ 忠忠海味园BBQ海鲜烧烤 (what a mouthful). I shall call it Hai Wei Yuan to keep it short.Hai Wei Yuan is easy to spot as its at the entrance of Chomp Chomp. In fact, it is located at the left most corner at the entrance and has a unit number #01-01. This stall is fairly popular and you can expect a waiting time of at least 30 minutes (even on a weekday evening). There are tables directly in front of this stall. However, my advice would be to sit elsewhere. This is because the BBQing of the sambal chilli can cause the air around this stall to be very uncomfortable. The seafood such as stingray, crayfish, lala clams, gong gong and cockles were displayed on a bed of ice. We ordered three dishes and two bowls of rice from Hai Wei Yuan . The three dishes were Sambal Kang Kong $8, Sambal Lala $8 and BBQ (Sambal) Stingray $12. The two bowls of rice cost $1. Payment is made only after the food is served. We waited for around 40 minutes before our food was served (Food for thought: it was a Thursday night. Can't imagine what the waiting time would be if it was a weekend or Friday night).Sambal Kang Kong $8Although the Sambal Kang Kong $8 served on a piece of banana leaf had been highly raved about, I thought that it was average. I had eaten better ones elsewhere. The Kang Kong was well cooked and retained a nice crunchines. However, the dish as a whole was too spicy and was not tasty enough.Sambal Lala Clams $8The Sambal Lala $8 was served on a piece of banana leaf.Sambal Lala Clams $8We thought that the Sambal Lala Clams was unique. The lala clams were normal, but what stood out was the sauce. It had the right balance of spiciness, sweetness and saltiness (due to the lala clams). What made the sauce so unique was that it had this slight peanutish flavour that made it aromatic and addictive. Shiok! We were scrapping whatever sauce there was and adding it onto our rice.BBQ Stingray $12The BBQ Stingray $12 was also served on a piece of banana leaf.BBQ Stingray $12Needless to say, we always squeeze the lime to up the flavour by a notch or two. The BBQ Stingray was not bad. The sambal chilli spread was spicy and fragrant while the Stingray was tender, soft and more importantly fresh. However, a grouse which I had was that the stingray was too thin - not meaty considering the price. Having said that, credit must be given to the stall owner as he bothered to add slices of onions on top of the BBQ Stingray to enhance the flavour. I polished off the whole stingray (literally) including its skeleton (soft bone) which contains cartilage which is good for the joints.Overall, the food from Hai Wei Yuan was delish. Even though we had to wait so long for the food and the price seems to be on the higher end for a hawker centre, I would still be back. Reason being the prices at the other stalls are the same. In addition, I am a foodie, I am definitely coming back to Chomp Chomp for all the other yummy and sinful food. continue reading

I had coconut drink - big jug of sweet coconut juice with some coconut meats to eat. BBQ chicken wings never go wrong - they only got me craving for more and more especially by squeezing lime onto it!Lala - sinful seafood but very chewy! Sambal kang kong was very crunchy and spicy enough.Sambal stingray was also pretty spicy but meaty - very worth it especially with the lime squeezed on it as well. Overally decently good BBQ food.I would suggest to order rice to go with all the BBQ food - otherwise it might be a little too spicy or salty by eating the dishes on its own.http://phuachiuyen.wordpress.com/2014/03/07/spicy-food-chomp-chomp-food-centre/ continue reading

Late night supper at Chomp Chomp, there wasn't many stalls still opened for business since it's a rainy weekday night. Instead of ordering their seems to be popular stingray, I decided to order a plate of see-hum (aka cockles). Though the portion is quite small at a price of $5, but I was happy when my dish was served. There's a free packet of tissue and a small bowl of water to clean your hands after the cockle mess. I didn't see any stall having this kind of extra service, so I was quite surprise with it. Anyway the cockles was cooked 100% (as told to the uncle) and it doesnt have any foul smell which suggest it as un-fresh. The chili is a bomb, by adding the lime it goes very well with the cockles meat. Who knows something so simple can be a delicacy too? continue reading

Saturday nights are best spend chilling with friends and having delicious food!Me and M decides to meet up with H for dinner as we've been craving for Chomp Chomp's delicious food for sometime!Luckily H's sister was there too dinning with her own group of friends so they managed to save us a seat beside their table for us when we reached there. At Chomp Chomp's, i've always felt the food is fantastic! The area has some of the best makan stalls in SIngapore all at that spot, hence it's always almost crowded with people especially at meal timings!Even the BBQ Seafood has a few stalls and we decide to order from the same store as H's sister did.I would say the wait would be quite a while around 5-10 mins due to the volume of people and orders. The price is considered standard and reasonable at $12 for this And after splitting among us 3, each of us pays $4 only which is definitely a great deal for this stingray! It was very fresh and fleshy, a lot of meat And the sambal taste when you eat together with it...SHIOK!!!!For those whom never tried Sambal Stingray before, you don't know what you're missing out continue reading

Sambal KangKong! The kangkong was very crunchy and juicy! Sambal was very very nice-smelling too! Upon more eating, it felt a little spicy and my tongue was going numb but i couldn't resist popping more into my mouth! The stem part was crunchy and the leafy part was soft and nice. Be careful of the leafy part getting stuck between your teeth! Stingray was so yummy we had to get one more! The stingray was cooked on the banana leaf which boost the flavour of the fish and removed any fishy smell there was on it. Meat was on both side of the stingray although we side had like thick chunks of meat on it. The meat was very soft and the skin was crispy. We added lime to one of the stingray, which brought out the flavour even more due to the extra kick! I love the stingray here and will definitely be back to try more! (: continue reading
