Ordered this Toast with Ice Cream at OldTown White Coffee and it was definitely not a disappointing one.The toast was very crispy and crunchy although there was a mild taste of bitterness from the slightly burnt toast. Also the smell of the burnt toast was pretty alright and acceptable. The ice cream was cold and creamy, it melted immediately in mouth, giving a cooling sensation. It went extremely well with the crispy toast. The environment of this restaurant was pretty good as the place was not too crowded. Furthermore, public can have free access to their Wi-Fi. continue reading

OldTown White Coffee never seems to be busy. Even during lunch hour. So if you wanna make an impromptu visit here, don't fret much about making any reservations, just walk in and you can get yourselves seats. I find that the cushioned seats are comfortable although they really look kind of worn out. Their floor staffs were attentive from the moment we walked in. I decided on the Nasi Lemak Combo, costing me about $10.90. The rice is not fragrant at all, needs more coconut milk if you ask me. The rice wasn't warm when served nor was the rendang chicken, pretty disappointing. The chili sauce is sweet-tasting and very addictive, enough to excite your taste buds. But the chili wasn't that great enough to balance off the entire dish. i don't mind making another trip still. I'll just pick something else off their menu ;) continue reading

I didn't pay for the food hence I'm not sure about the price, but taste wise, Oldtown White Coffee cafe really impressed me well. My favourite has to be the minced chicken rice. I think the minced meat is marinated and cooked with fragrant oil, it smells so good, tastes even better! The tiny hint of spiciness definitely enhance the whole flavour by much. Very well done. The Ipoh lum mee on the other hand, is quite disappointing. The broth is quite bland, and the char siew (BBQ meat) has such a fake redish colour. We also ordered the egg toast, which served with kaya paste. The toast are dipped in egg mixture and pan-fried with butter. It might be slightly too oily, yet it tastes so good that reminds me of childhood continue reading

(Sauna-baked details are at http://merlionwayfarer.blogspot.sg/2012/10/sauna-baked-coffee.html)The air in this outlet was stifling and they had to use many fans to supplement the airflow. So picking a table with a fan beside or above was absolutely crucial...Oh yah, add that to a table with comfortable seats (coz there were several types of seats, from cushioned seats to wooden stools), and tables that were still dusted with bread crumbs from previous diners.Old Town White Coffee (S$2.20)This was served thick and frothy. It was a bit too bitter. But that was easily rectified as more condensed milk could be added.Kaya & Butter Toast (S$2.20 for 2 slices)More disappointing was the state of the kaya and butter toast. They arrived cold. Merlion Wayfarer absolutely detests going to an airconditioned place, paying a premium for the food, and then be served COLD BREAD. Thankfully, they were crispy and thin enough for some crunch effect.Once again, Merlion Wayfarer was disappointed by her experience. But usually a fix within Singapore is a lot less time consuming and effortless than the 3h queue at the Causeway to go to the Old Town at JB where there is prompter service and half-priced products (same price as Singapore, but in Malaysian Ringgit). continue reading

Price are expensive, as not worth getting hawker food in smaller serving size at this price. Bad service accompanied by below average food. Our order was somehow forgotten and after waiting for 30mins was forced to reorder. When the food finally arrived it was cool. the hokkien prawn mee is not that bad, but have had better malaysian food for the same price or cheaper. continue reading
