Of Chefs and Chords

Presenting the Rockstar Chefs!
Six renowned chefs in Singapore rocked it out at the first ever FIJI Water Rockstar Chefs Charity Concert on Wednesday, 14 March 2012. Hard Rock Cafe at Resorts World Sentosa was where the party rockin’ stage was set for the one-night-only charity event, which saw 250 people in attendance and raised a whopping $10,000 for The Little Arts Academy, the organisation supported by this very special concert. The FIJI Water Rockstar Chefs Charity Concert saw six highly-skilled chefs ditching their culinary attires to take on the role of rockstars on the drums, guitars and microphones, all in the name of charity (and rock of course)! Two groups, The Munchies and Burnt Sauce, were formed by the chefs. Under the guidance of professional music instructors from the Thunder Rock School, the six renowned masters of food took time out from their busy kitchens to rehearse for the show. ‘The Munchies’ band member, Chef Christian Bruhns of St Regis Singapore, explained, “I think finding the time to practice was the hardest part of this musical journey. As chefs we work such long, irregular hours. It was challenging to make time to practice on our own, let alone coordinate schedules among ourselves to practice as a group. Group practice was often late at night, after our various restaurants' dinner service was complete. However, I found it a great way to de-stress and unwind, jamming with my fellow band mates after a long day at work.”
The Munchies really are hardcore rockstars
The Munchies was formed by Executive Chef of St Regis Singapore, Christian Bruhns; Chef and Owner of ‘Chu, Dan Segall; and Chef and Owner of the Sugar Daddy Group, Chef Pang Kok Keong. They set the stage ablaze by rockin’ to hits by artists U2, The White Stripes and Lenny Kravitz.
Burnt Sauce rockin' it out on stage
Burnt Sauce, on the other hand, performed three rock favourites from bands Hoobastank, Green Day and The Beatles, and was formed by Sandro Falbo, the Executive Chef of Hilton Singapore; Reynaldo Arriola, Sous Chef of The Halia Singapore; and Christopher Smith, Executive Sous Chef of the Marriott Hotel Singapore. As unlikely as the combination of chefs and chords was, the two bands did a fantastic job drawing out the raw energy of the crowd, who belted out the words to songs like Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes, Creep by Radiohead (a surprise number), and Hey Jude by The Beatles. The atmosphere was electrifying and continued to be, even long after the concert was over, with Chef Dan Segall showing off his DJ skills on the turntables.
Enthusiastic fans cheering the bands on
“I felt really happy and satisfied that the FIJI Water Rockstar Chefs Charity Concert was a great success and that we had so much support for the charity. I would love to be involved in more of these charity events!" exclaimed an energetic Chef Christopher Smith. These dedicated, versatile, and multi-talented, chefs are indeed a true inspiration to us all! Relax and enjoy at these bars and lounges Check out the offers we have listed for you
