Other than its outrageous fashion, Japan is known to make the most flavourful and tasty ramens. The people here are so fond of this soup dish that every year, they hold a Ramen Competition where restaurants from the major cities in the country compete for the title of the Best Ramen!
This is truly an event worth witnessing by all foodies. Luckily for you, you don’t have to go all the way to Japan to take part in this Ramen Competition for Komars Group has brought us the Ultimate Ramen Champion 2011 right here in Singapore!
From July 2011, Singaporeans can get to savour the best ramens from 6 popular restaurants in Japan—Iroha, Bario, Gantetsu, Tetsu, Ikkousha, and Taishoken. Each one has brought its signature ramen dish and will let the Singaporeans decide by July 2012 who has made the most delicious ramen. There are 4 quarter finals wherein ramen lovers can vote for their favourite dish via SMS, Facebook, and onsite voting. Whoever wins the coveted title will be invited to set up its own restaurant in Singapore by Q3 of 2012.
You can sample these six ramens at their stalls located on the 4th level of Iluma, Bugis. To help you decide on what to order, we’ve listed down the 6 ramens available:
Signature Ramen: Mori Soba
Restaurant: Taishoken (Tokyo)This ramen is eaten by dipping the noodles in the broth, which is boiled for more than 6 hours to get that thick texture and sweet flavour. Sweet vinegar is also added to complement the shoyu broth.
Signature Ramen: Toyama Black Ramen
Restaurant: Iroha (Toyama)This black ramen is one of the restaurant’s signature dishes. The black soybean, which is added to the chicken and pork broth, is responsible for its tar-like colour as well as its slightly nutty finish.
Restaurant: Gantetsu (Sapporo)
Signature Ramen: Gantetsu Special Miso RamenA ramen that has a lot to offer—this dish has noodles, eggs, and pork slices as its main ingredients. But, what gives its distinct flavour is the ginger paste for it matches very well with the pork and miso broth.
Restaurant: Bario (Tokyo)
Signature Ramen: Bario RamenNoodles of this ramen are thicker than usual, so it makes this dish heavier than your usual. Other ingredients to make it more flavourful are the pork shoyu as well as the 7 secret spices used.

Restaurant: Tetsu (Tokyo)
Signature Ramen: Paitan TsukemenThis can be considered as a tedious dish to prepare as the broth has to be simmered for 15 hours to get that distinct flavour. When you order this noodle dish, please do request for a hot stone spectacle.
