This 1920s shop specialised in egg tarts, traditional wedding cake, wife cake and traditional Chinese pastry. I stopped by to have a snack and bought one of the curry puff. The curry puff is not the usual type but a baked version with spicy and sweet curry chicken and boiled egg. It is like Japaneses curry chicken wrapped in a baked pastry. The taste is quite good if you do not mind that it is sweeter.I was surprise to see they also see a range of hot traditional dessert, like Almond Paste, Blac
I was surprise to see they also see a range of hot traditional dessert, like Almond Paste, Black Sesame and the unsual White Sesame Paste. Since I have not tried the white sesame paste, I decided to order a bowl to try.
I sat down in the marble topped table and my bowl of white sesame paste came piping hot. It looks like my favorite Walnut Paste which they did not sell. I guess the creamy brown color came from frying the white sesame. The sweetness was just right and it was fragrant. It was so smooth with no lumps and burnt taste. I would have bought more of this dessert if I was going home straight.
I am still craving for it and I think this is the only place that I know of that sell the white version of Sesame Paste. Do
gave it a try if you are near Chinatown.
