I've walked past tables with these huge bowls countless times at People's Park Complex but had no idea which stall they were from. Looking at the food soaked in chilli oil really whet my appetite as I love chilli! I found the stall one evening but the queue was too long; more than 20 people so I decided to come back another day. I finally had a taste of it on the first day of 2013. Since it was past lunch hour, the queue was shorter (still more than 5 people) so I decided to join in. Looking at the food portion of those infront of me, I was worried the servings would be too huge. I ordered enoki mushroom, beansprouts, tang hoon, kangkong, pig skin and pork slices. The stall holder was very friendly and assured me that the ingredients are fresh and since I ordered mainly vegetables, they can be easily digested. I asked for medium spiciness.
After payment, I actually wanted to change to low spiciness but the stall holder said medium spiciness tastes better
My 8 items in the mala hot pot. Whao! The food tastes very good! Spiciness was optimum and I was glad the stall holder insisted that I stick to medium. I thought it tasted a little salty but realized the mala hotpot needs to go together with plain rice. I had skipped the plain rice as I ordered food from other stalls as well.
Total damage $8; $1 for veg, $2 for pig skin and pork slices.
Nice. I will return for it, with rice next time
