A very interesting concoction of using soy milk as a soup base for Japanese Udon. What's more, the udon is black; apparently made with charcoal powder that's supposed to have various health benefits. But unfortunately, it tastes quite bad. You know how soy milk is usually sweet while udon soup base is usually salty? Well, this is like drinking salty soy milk / eating sweet udon. The soy milk doesn't compliment the udon at all and it just tasted very strange. Yet another disappointing lunch at Sa

Sakae Sushi serves very commercial Japanese food and it seems that their standard is dwindling over the years. I would even prefer getting sushi from Isetan Scotts' basement supermarket than dine here. The Unagi Binbinba ($12.99) looks impressive in a hot stone bowl, but the unagi was served cold and it had a heap of rice but not much ingredients. It's basically just a lot of plain Japanese rice topped up with shredded tamago, mushrooms and a few slices of cold unagi on top. There were also a fe

There were also a few other slices of unagi hidden within the rice but overall the dish lacked flavour. I would definitely not order this again if I ever come back to Sakae Sushi.

Was meeting up with a friend - a bride-to-be and with some of her 'sisters' at wheelock place for her wedding discussion. I was one of the sister.

I was late that day, by the time when i reached wheelock place, I was told to come to sakae sushi as they were all there waiting for me.

Well, i am defintely not a sakae sushi 'fan'. Bcos I feel that the quality of their food is below average and is not authentic enough as compare to many other Japanese restaurants. And most importanly, their price is not cheap at all for that kind of food and portion (very small) that they are serving.

Anyway, since the bride-to-be and her sisters have chosen sakae sushi and already been seated. I don't have much choice actually. So I just made my way there, seated and just ordered some sushi for my dinner. I tried to minimise my order actually.

The sushi over there is rather standard. Not surprised and not disappointed either. Its just average.
