A Haven for Meat & Carbonara Lovers!
2016-03-31
Meat lovers, rejoice! We’ve found the one and only Brazilian churrascaria in Singapore that uses charcoal fire for slow-roasting quality meats, retaining the meat’s rich flavours and imparting an irresistible smoky fragrance! If you’ve never heard of a 'churrascarica', it defines a restaurant that serves grilled meats as much as one can eat.
Passadors (chefs-cum-meat servers) dressed in traditional gaucho outfits serve customers in a unique serving style known as rodizio, a popular serving style in Brazil where passadors tote skewers and carve dining portions of meat on diners’ plates.
Situated in the west of Singapore at Sunset Way, Carne & Caipirinha exudes a laid-back atmosphere with its alfresco seats and outdoor bar set amidst lush greenery. We visited Carne & Caipirinha with eight OpenRice members and had the opportunity to feast on the wide array of buffet spread.
If you’re intending to visit Carne & Caipirinha, we will strongly suggest that you eat less for your other meals and prepare your stomach for the feast!
Limited-period only: The FireBomb Flaming Carbonara Pasta
Many of you may have already seen videos of The FireBomb Flaming Carbonara Pasta on Instagram and Facebook. Freshly cooked Carbonara pasta is first tossed into a large Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese wheel and a flaming cocktail consisting a secret blend of 3 different Brazilian alcohols would then be added in.
While the pasta gets charred by the flames, its heat melts the cheese to create a beautifully balanced cream sauce with al-dente pasta! Carbonara pasta is included in the buffet but if you’d like the addition of the flaming cocktail, it will cost $10 per serving.
Other Dishes we Loved
Cheese breads were first served as appetisers to start the feast. Do not judge a food by its cover because as ordinary as these cheese breads may look, it tasted extraordinary and was extremely addictive! It is best eaten warm and has a powdery exterior and a cheesy chewy texture within.
We were also greeted with a wide buffet spread of gourmet salads, pastas, rice and traditional Brazilian Feijoada. Brazilian Feijoada is a black bean stew containing beef or pork trimmings (pig’s ears, tail or feet).
It's not a Brazilian feast without some traditional Brazilian cocktails and soft drinks. Caipirinha ($14), one of Brazil’s finest invention and signature tipple, is made from Cachaça, fresh lime and sugar, and tastes similar to Mojito with its refreshing and tangy citrus after taste – the perfect drink to accompany a meaty meal. For non-alcoholic fans, delight in the first ever soft drink produced in Brazil – Guaraná Antarctica ($8)! Unlike the usual fizzy and sweet drinks that give us that uncomfortable bloated feeling, Guaraná Antarctica is very light and slightly sweet. Do note that drinks are not included in the cost of the buffet.
Be spoilt for choice for a wide assortment of meat and fish selections which includes Chicken Fillet wrapped in Bacon, Chicken Heart, Beef Rump, Beef Hump, Pork Rib, Pork Belly, Fish (Escolar) and many more.
Surprisingly, the favourite meat amongst our members was Chicken Heart! Literally the heart of the chicken, it did take us a little self-pep talk before we savoured the Chicken Heart meat. It was charred and crispy on the outside and tender on the inside with a slight offal aftertaste. Another crowd pleaser was the Fish (Escolar) which had a buttery and flavourful taste. Although it may be very addictive, we'd warn you not to consume more than four pieces of fish as wax ester is found in Escolar and may cause diahorrea or stomach discomfort when too much is being consumed.
As the buffet focuses on mostly meat-dishes, you may get full very quickly and would like to slow-down the pace of your meal. At Carne & Caipirihina, you’ll be given a green and red two-sided disc to indicate if you’d like your food to be served (green side) or like a stop to the food (red side). This makes the communication between the diner and the passador really simple and convenient.
Complete your meal with their Grilled Pineapple! Juicy and incredibly sweet, you’ll definitely ask for more slices of pineapple from the passadors!
Now head over to Carne & Caipirinha and enjoy their wide buffet spread!
