This household name is synonymous in local food scene. In December 2014, Ponggol Nasi Lemak launched its first ever fast food-style concept store along Jalan Besar Road. Spearheaded by the third-generation of the family line, Mr Edmund Ang aims to serve up the same classic fare with a modern and more efficient system.
New Look and Style
The new outlet is housed in a two-storey conservation shop house with a fully air-conditioned interior and sports a new automated ordering system that speeds up the delivery process. Diners can also easily browse through the different food items with pictorial menus on the ordering counters and walls.
Increased Efficiency
To increase efficiency of customers’ ordering process, Mr Ang has invested in a few automated machines to speed up the process of cooking and preparation. Automatic fryers, griller and special egg frying machines were acquired and put in place in their kitchen.
However, some dishes are still cooked fresh several times a day. Some examples include their vegetables dishes – eggplant, lady fingers and long beans. These dishes are done fresh in small batches to ensure quality and also to make sure there will always be a constant supply of these greens to serve.
New House Specialties
An added perk of seven new dishes are added to the menu (only that this outlet), each meticulously prepared by Mr Ang and his team. Some highlights include Crispy Chicken Skin with Curry Leaves, Home-Brewed Ice Hibiscus Tea and Grilled Japanese Squid with Special Sauce.
Freshly made sorbets and ice cream are also made fresh in store by Mr Ang himself.
