Robertson Quay's Truly Underrated Pizzeria

The majority of us flock to better-known pizzerias in the city for the sake of convenience. But for the rest who seek nothing but authentic flavours or “a slice of Italy”, Bella Pizza is a secret we’d gladly share with you. Sister restaurant to previously featured Bella Pasta, it sits on the same stretch along the serene river bank of Robertson Quay. And while the alfresco seats get you breeze and great natural lighting, your best dining experience starts indoors.

Plant yourself in the centre where you’ll be near enough to watch the chefs in action through the open-kitchen concept, whilst surrounded by a glistening bar, a wine bottle feature on one wall and a delicious-looking mural on the other.

Must-try Neapolitan-style Pizzas

Needless to say, Bella Pizza’s forte lies in Italian pizzas – specifically Neapolitan-style, where the dough is hand-kneaded by pizzaiolos on site daily and prepared with simple and fresh ingredients.

Each pizza is 12 inches in diameter and the gallery of options includes Red Pizzas like Pizza Magherita ($18), White Pizzas such as a four-cheese Pizza Quattro Formaggi ($24), Sicilian Boats and Folded Pizzas, otherwise known as Calzones that resemble folded omelettes or in our local context, giant curry puffs. The only problem you're likely to encounter here, is deciding which to order. For first timers like us, make their signature Pizza Bella Pizza ($26) a default choice. The relatively thin-crusted pizza of mozzarella, ricotta and spinach comes with French rosette salami instead of the usual pizza-grade ones, which adds a touch more oil but a ton of flavour. Expect no teeth-shattering crusts here. In fact, even non-crust lovers like me devoured every last bit with none to waste. You can also get a limited range of their pizzas while dining at the Bella Pasta, situated just a few doors away.

Don't miss these dishes

portobello mushroom
It’s hard to go wrong with a juicy combination of mushroom, spinach and cheese, as proven by the Portobello Ripeno ($17), which comes in a pair and oven baked to perfection with brie cheese.
profiterole dessert
What looks like three scoops of chocolate fudge ice cream here, is the Profiterol al Cioccolato ($10). Much to our surprise, these puff pastries stuffed with pastry cream were pleasantly light though coated in a rich blanket of chocolate sauce.
