The Pelican Seafood Bar and Grill Lands at One Fullerton

For a seafood restaurant, the Pelican seems to be an odd name. What does a type of bird have to do with lobsters, crabs, and mussels, right? But for those of you who are not familiar with them, they actually represent a person’s homecoming. During the old days of seafarers and voyagers, the bird would symbolise their way back home after a long trip on the high seas. (FYI: Pelicans can’t fly too far away because of their weight. When a voyager sees them, it only means that land is near).
What does one usually do when someone who’s been gone a long time has arrived? Well, of course some good ‘ol comfort food would be waiting for them. That’s how the concept of The Pelican Seafood Bar and Grill came about.
With the aim of recreating this experience today, diners will be spoilt for choice with a whole array of fresh seafood imported from all over the world (US, Canada, etc.). One good example is the Pelican Seafood Platter ($99/ serves 2 to 3 pax), which consists of raw oysters clams, Dungeness crab, poached prawns, steamed whole Maine lobster, marinated conch salad, and swordfish cerviche. Why order this? Because the seafood items are so fresh, they seem to have been just caught in the sea and served on your table.
After you dig in, you can also try their unique items which include the Cod’s Tongue Casserole ($26) with roast garlic and pork scratchings; Black Pepper Candied Bacon ($18) with brown sugar and lime; and the Pelican Chowder ($16). What makes the latter stand out is that unlike most chowders, this isn’t cream based and it’s also got bacon bits in it!
Manning the kitchen is Chef Isaac Tan, who is known for his expertise with cooking seafood and using the wood fire grill. Hence, one of the specialties of The Pelican Seafood Bar and Grill is the NZ Skate Wing Chop ($32) served with burnt lemon butter and fries with old bay seasoning. For that overall experience, do try it with the recommended side dish of Wood-grilled Corn ($12) with sheep’s milk cheese and chilli.
Who has tried the Baked Snapper Pie ($36)? If you haven’t, then you have another reason to visit The Pelican at One Fullerton. They make the best dish with tender snapper meat, asparagus, mushroom and puff pastry. This is quite a big portion so there’s plenty of food to share. As for drinks to complement these dishes, the Pelican also has a couple of cocktails to make happy hour…really happy! With the Jolly Roger! Happy Hour*, The Pelican bar offers 1-for-1 house red and white wines, spirit, and Hoegarden beer on draft. At the bar, you can also find about 20 unique cocktails such as the Pelican ($20), 10 different Mojitos ($16), and other alcoholic beverages. And for the finale, they have a couple of dessert options every sweet tooth would love. To name a few, there are the Double Chocolate Whoopie Pie ($16) which has three layers of chocolate; Pina Colada Sherbet ($14) which is so refreshing to the palate, and the creamy Lemon Meringue Mess ($14). At the Pelican Seafood Bar and Grill, there’s more than seafood to entice their diners to come back to the restaurant.
