It's been awhile since I've last been to Ya kun. I usually prefer to have Teh and Kopi at the coffee shop at heartland areas rather than pay extra for Ya kun.. But today I was at NUS and decided to give Ya kun a go.It had ample cushion seating and there was a long line for breakfast at 840am on a weekday.Ordered a typical softee boiled egg set.Teh is mandatory for me to start my day and I like it siew dai. This was definitely siew Dai as it wasn't sweet but yet I could feel the caffeine kick into my brain! So 5 stars there for a good awakening drink!I got the traditional steamed butter kaya bread as well.My colleague also had the traditional kaya toast with iced milo.My tried the laksa for $5.50 which I was surprised to see it being served in such a huge bowl with a lot of prawns! Value for money indeed! Here was my bill for my breakfast today. A lot more than what I would spend normally but still quite a hearty and fulfilling breakfast!

It is not solely my opinion, but most of my friends do have the same conclusion that Yakun serves the best Milk tea among all the coffee shops. Perhaps the tea leaves they use are of top quality, it doesn't taste too bitter, but with a pleasant aromatic fragrance, and the milk tea is definitely silkily smooth. It costs $1.50 per cup, but NUS staffs get 10% discount. Definitely great to go with their famous kaya toast!

My friend suggested we tried this place as we never been here but this place certainly too hot to handle, it is an open concept sitting in the open with no air conditioning. Ya Kun's toast has been my favourite and it has never fails me before but this time I was rather dissapointed. Not because of the service or food but the presentations of the food, The toast was served in a takeaway paperbag( the toast became soggy quite quickly due to the moist in the bag) and the soft boiled egg was served in a disposable cup! I just find it unreal and definitely different feel from the usual.

For only $2 you get 4 double sided toast bread! I bought this as an after lunch snack as my bowl of noodles was not very filling. The toasted bread seems small because they sliced off the brown crusts. But for $2 I think it is pretty worth it!The butter and kaya was well spread and just nice, not too dry nor was it dripping all over the place. The bread was also not very oily which is good! Overall taste test: 9/10Would be nice if they used thicker slices of bread like what BreadTalk does!

For student and staff, there is a 10% discount, so is a good snack to get
