Tonite I am invited to the Nee Soon GRC National Day Dinner. It is hosted at the basketball court opposite the mrt station for 500 tables and costing $25 per person. With such a big dinner, 3 different caters are used. I sit at the table whose dinner is catered by Sin Mui Tin Catering 新梅珍菜館.Six taste cold dish 六味冷盤The standard dish in most of the dinners.Buddha Jump Over The Wall 迷你佛跳牆It is not what I am expecting. It is more like fish maw soup to me, although there is a lot of pig's tails in it which I do not eat.Prawn Ball With Abalone 鲍鱼虾枣It should be called prawn ball on the menu as it is actually five spice roll. And that is mock abalone, not the real thing. Sound like a rip off to me.Scallop with Milk Chinese Cabbage 带子奶白菜Not bad stir fried vegetable dish.Herbal Duck with Chestnut 药材栗子鸭The duck is well braised and very tender with the soup in very flavourful.Teochew Style Steamed Pomfret 潮蒸斗昌魚The fish is well cooked and fresh.Salad Sauce De-Shell Prawn Ball 沙律蝦球It is actually deep fried de-shelled prawns, topped with salad cream. Great dish. Stewed Pork Belly with Bun 扣肉包The stewed pork belly is very flavourful and tender. Pairing with the pipping hot soft bun, one simply forgets how fatty the piece of meat is. The texture is simply melt in the mouth.Ice-Cream 香滑雪糕There is only of choice of either chocolate or vanilla and tastes quite normal.Overall the dinner is average but can one complain when you are paying just $25 per person to eat so much. Difficult to get this price in a normal restaurant.
