The restaurant opened recently in Tanjong Pagar. It originated from an award winning restaurant in mainland China. The restaurant offered private home cuisine 私房菜 , without the usual seasonings such as MSG, salt and castor sugar. Although small in size, the restaurant offered well priced dishes. This month the restaurant is having a lunch promotion with Gold Medal Pork Rib with Pineapple Rice 金牌西菠排骨饭 at S$3.80, instead of usual S$7.60.- Limited to first 50 dine in customers everyday. The soya bean
- Limited to first 50 dine in customers everyday.
The soya bean milk offered here had an acquired taste especially for the unsweetened version. It's known as Five Flavours of Soy Milk 招牌五味濃縮豆漿 (S$2.80), as it's made of soya bean, red bean, green bean, black bean, and peanut.
Simple looking dish but the sliced meat was tender with the black fungus giving a crunch to the dish.
Simple looking dish but the tofu was very smooth.
The meat was fork tender, easily tearing off from the bones.
Interestingly orange juice, dragon fruit and other assorted fruits were used to make the sauce for the dish, instead of the usual vinegar, which was why some customers may felt that the flavours may be not as strong as expected. The fish was deboned and coated with a thin layer of batter, encasing the firm juicy meat inside.
Although it looked different from the picture on the menu, the prawns was sweet and crunchy in taste, topped with cubes of fruits.
Although the cubes of meat looked quite fatty with its layers of fat, it was simply melt in the mouth without the jelat feel.
The small serving which was served to the six of us was huge in size. The pork foot was tender and soaked up the flavours of the soupy dish. The cabbage was very soft and flavourful. The soup soaked up the essence of the dish.
Interesting having bun with skin made with milo powder, but I felt that the filling was more interesting as it tasted different from the usual type and had sesame seeds in it to give it more texture on the otherwise smooth filling.
The pancakes were freshly made, crispy and light, without been too oily or too sweet.
The bun was encased with thin skin with juicy filling inside.
Pork & Cabbage 猪肉白菜馅 (S$4/ 6 pieces, S$6/ 10 pieces)
Similarly thin skin with juicy filling.
Similar to the dumplings, but it came with light crispy base.
The coconut jelly was freshly made daily with rock sugar in limited amount, instead of the common castor sugar. The jelly was firm without been too sweet, and stick to the fruit nicely.
Overall the food was delicious and well priced. The staffs were knowledgeable about its dishes.
