Located close to Outram Park MRT, this cafe offers a selection of local delights (e.g. laksa, noodle soup, black sesame paste, barley with ginko dessert) at friendly prices (under $10). We ordered the laksa and mango pomelo dessert. The laksa tasted average, considering that we could get tastier versions at cheaper prices. Sugar Granny cafe is better known for its desserts such as the mango sago pomelo. However, in this case, I found it less flavourful as I would have expected.

Considering the affordable prices and comfortable cafe setting, I wouldn't mind dropping by for a quick dinner fix in the area. There is definitely room for improvement in terms of the food.

I think this is the only chinese dessert store around that area (or at least the only one we could find), and it was not that crowded after dinner hours. Would recommend their muah chee at $2.50 per stick with different toppings. I tried their mango pomelo sago - which really tasted more like ice blend; mango bits were lacking, and at $4.20, not very recommended. Their water chesnut dessert (cold) at $3 was also rather diluted, not recommended.

I was looking for desserts after dinner and found this dessert place near outram park mrt. It offers fried food stuff and other traditional chinese desserts like sesame paste, black glutinous rice, smoothies, etc. I was attracted by the sticky muah chee, which has different toppings like chocolate & almonds, red beans, peanuts; I got the one with black glutinous rice, which was unique and taste wise, was good. Muah Chee went well with it; and at $2.50, it was pretty alright. The chendol at $3.80

This cafe is located at Chinatown, near to my ex company. Although they a bit slow for preparing the food, the food is nice here, especially their boneless chicken and laksa. My favourite foods !The boneless chicken wing is crispy and juicy, and easy to eat. The laksa soup is tasty, not to spicy for me but if can serve with the cockles i think will be better.

This place serves up quite decent desserts at relatively affordable price. I ordered the chendol and the ice blend was really done just nice. The entire mixture was not overly sweet and I could taste some of the milk. There was this passion-fruit ice blended thingy and my friend said it was good too because there was real passion fruit (generous too). But do try the excellent chendol!

I was reluctant to order this in the first place as i was afraid it might taste and chew like rubber but itching for some fried stuff, i went for it. It was served in a basket with a thick piece of white paper at the bottom of it. I assume it should help to absorb oil. The calamari upon first bite was crispy and hot on the outside and chewy on the inside. In fact, it was too tough to chew on. Indeed tasted like rubber. It was pretty tastless. Not worth!

Got attracted by the shop's name and decided to give it a try. From the sound of it, it's like desserts made from granny? Should be nice i hope. But my expectation came to an end shortly. After being served by rowdy china staff and long waiting time even though there's only 2 of us. I ordered mango sago. It came in a glass. Somehow it tasted like mango juice with those tadpole looked alike sago. I didn't like the taste of it to be honest.

This cafe is close to OSO ristorante which i always frequent. Decided to give here a try. It sells chinese desserts. I had a bowl of black sesame paste. The shop is run by a few china peeps. it was a blazing hot afternoon and I was desperately in need of something cold to cool me off. Besides, I was already at the tail-end of Chinatown and there were few other options, and places like Absinthe nearby seemed to be closed for the mid-afternoon. I ordered the lychee Icy Swirl, it is not bad. This cooled me down real good. Overall, I think the food is average, the service is very bad, and the decor is cheesy and sore. The food isn’t even value-for-money, since there is so much good food at a cheap price in Chinatown. The reason it survives in the competitive Chinatown is because there are no other cafes nearby. The desserts were ok, smooth, but taste-wise, they cannot be compared to Mei Heong Yuan, which are only a few streets away.

My daughter and I decided to enter Sugar Granny Cafe for some desserts. As we both wanted something more filling, we ordered the sticky muah chee to share. There are a few choices of flavours to go with the mua chee like red bean, chocolate and peanut. Being the more conventional one, I suggested to go for the peanut one while my daughter chose the red bean one. It is quite a delight to munch on. The mua chee is quite qq and it is nice to chew on it slowly and coating on the peanuts/red bean. I

I prefered the peanuts on since it is more fragrant and the peanuts stick more easily to the mua chee than do the red beans.

I came here every Tuesday for near to two months in a row because it was quiet and convenient and cheap, one of the few cool cafes in Chinatown that is open in the hot afternoons.

Very interesting characters you will see here. I saw a boss with his secretary from a nearby company–they were doing some paper work but their hands were on each other, and ring ring! the boss’s wife telephoned. Once, I saw an uncle with his China Money Boy. (ps: trust me, I know a Money Boy when I see one because I cum in contact with them for work! Don’t think dirty.) Wow, the China Money Boy is so hot! He looks like a hunky version of Dai Yang Tian, in a very tight shirt, showing his ripped biceps. His body is tight! Drool. If I had $200 (that’s how much they cost), I’d put my money down. I tried very hard not to look at him, but he kept staring at me. I find the Uncle very poor thing. I’m not good-looking but the Money Boy felt that I was a better choice than the Uncle. And the Uncle tried so hard to impress him it was bordering on the point of pathetic. This is a Mandarin-speaking shop with Mandarin-speaking waitresses and the obviously Mandarin-speaking Uncle spoke in broken English to the waitress just to impress the Money Boy of his bilingualism. Very sad lah, in the Gay World, once you’re old, you lose currency. The nearby Keong Saik St is also known for the illegal female prostitutes. Underground Chinatown is very colorful.

I never ordered the food because it’s mostly fried food, calamari, fried chicken wings, fries, fried fishballs and sotongballs, etc. (See the menu here.) I’ve a firm belief that all deep-fried food are similar, unless the food is made from scratch and I don’t expect the food here to be made from scratch.

I always ordered the Chinese desserts. I’ve tried the sesame paste ($2.50) thrice, peanut paste ($2.50), Bailey with gingko ($2), Mango sago with pomelo (pictured, $3.50), Durian sago ($4).

The desserts were ok, smooth, but taste-wise, they cannot be compared to Mei Heong Yuan, which is only a few streets away. Out of the desserts, I prefer the sesame paste because it is so kick-ass sweet. It disregards diabetes completely, like diabetes is no longer a problem. Dead Sea is so salty it doesn’t allow life in it–this is like the Sugar version of the Dead Sea. And it tasted very different from other sesame paste too. There was a slightly burnt/roasted scent which is nice.

Overall, I think the food is average, the service is borderline-lazy, bo-chap, and the decor is cheesy and uncomfortable. The food isn’t even value-for-money, since there are so much good food at a cheap price in Chinatown. The reason it survives in the competitive Chinatown is because there are no other cafes nearby. Pray Starbucks doesn’t open here.
