If you think that lunch in Orchard Road is expensive, it's because you haven't been exploring into the nooks and crannies. Isle Cafe located at the first floor of Far East Plaza offers great and affordable options for mixed vegetable rice! This was the amount which I chose, and guess what? It's only $3.30! The egg tofu was yummy and savoury, but you can't really get this wrong... so, yes, this was great! The sweet and sour pork wasn't up to standard though, it was slightly soggy and not crunchy anymore. I love this stall when I discovered Isle Cafe which is located at Far East Plaza. Last time I tried the Lor Mee hence now i decided to try the prawn mee pok dry at $3.50 only ! The prawns are very fresh and the ingredients & noodles are all given in generous portion. The noodle is springy with shiok chili. I ordered the lor mee at $3.50 which is very reasonable due to its location at Far East Plaza. The ingredients are a lot and very delicious. The gravy is just nice, not too thick or thin and when added with garlic & vinegar, taste very shiok !! The noodles is cooked just nice and is not soggy at all. Whenever I was around this area, will dropby this stall to have a delicious Bak Chor Mee. As you can see from the photo, the serving that they gave is enough to make your stomach bloated. Noodles is cooked just nice, not too soft neither too hard. Ingredients consist of two type fish cake, meatball, fishball, minced meat and mushroom. With my workplace just a five minutes walk away from Far East Plaza, the trove of cheap eats in Orchard, I just had to hunt every nook and cranny in that building for the best gastronomical finds. Isle Cafe sits at the first floor of Far East Plaza near the fountain. I was having a massive laksa craving that week (which doesn't seem to end even after I ate bowls of laksa) and so I ordered one standard $3.50 laksa. Whoa, don't be deceived by its innocent appearance... its coconut milk broth is extremely spicy I nearly died from it - and I haven't even mixed in the molehill of chilli at the side! Needless to say it was hard for me to enjoy it because I like non-spicy laksa :'( There was a lot of ingredients in there, most of it are processed food like luncheon meat, fishcake and taupoks. I still love this laksa for its coconut milk taste and the white springy beehoon and the fully cooked egg that soaked up the gravy well ... but it is simply too spicy for me. Introduced by my colleagues, this stall is cheap and nice. They have variety food choice you can choose. Have economical bee hoon, economical breakfast with luncheon meat, fried, egg, fish cake. But when I came for lunch, they are still selling it. I ordered fried bee hoon with 1 sweet and sour fish and vegetable. Decided to packet my lunch at this newly opened Isle Cafe located at the first floor of Far East Plaza. Since there isn't much cheaper choice around and it's new... so why not? First look at their available dishes to go with my plain rice... well, it does look appetizing enough. I decide to go for my safe choice of 1 meat and 2 vegs since I didn't know the price of it at first trial. chose the curry pork, kang kong and another green vegetables. Total cost came up to be $3.60. Quite pricey I feel as other places will charged around $3-$3.50 for the same dishes selected. Realized my friend's packet lunch cost much lesser than mine and she had 2 meats and and 1 vegs! Doesn't leave a good impression since then as they charged not accordingly... Taste wise, it was ok. Heading over there for lunch is probably one of the best choice if you're working in town. Cheap and fast, the food taste good. This place is pretty pack during peak hours however, they cater to about 30 places? Would be good if you head down earlier. The fried egg taste really good but the rice... is a little watery however, you pay $3-4 for a meal like this, we shouldn't be complaining. The mee siam there not bad too. There will not be many place to have in cheap and economy lunch around orchard area But, yes, This stall provide. All food are in reasonable price.I bought bee hoon, vege and sweet & sour fish fillets. It costs $3.10.My colleague ordered chicken, vege and bee hoon, it's only $2.9.Good for heath and pricy lunch. Times are tough.. and times like these you are thankful for cheap eateries! if you dont wanna spend $5 bucks on a meal.. this is the place.. Isle Cafe not only has the mixed vegetable rice, they serves Laksa, fish soup noodles and more. They offer 10 over side dishes like fried kailan, steamed egg tofu, curry chicken or fried fish slices.I will usually get a plate of rice with a side of tofu and the fried fis slicesh and it doesnt cost more than $3!!!Its so so! Working at orchard road has its difficulties... I dont always want to spend $2.80 for a sandwich... so this place has $1 for the bun and $1.10 for the milo kosong small cup...Nothing crazy or extraordinary about this place but i can simply say one thing... Its lunch time!!! When you just wanna be healthy and just like really be budget... This is the place to come if you wanna ta pao...My usual will always be the steamed egg, green leafy vegetables and one meat usually with sauce... Happen to pass by this cafe during lunch time and decided to give it a try on their hor fun since is their today's special item. The food was served to me in less than ten minutes, which is consider quite prompt and affection. The portion may look quite generous but I am quite disappointed by the taste as the gravy is quite plain and bland. The large bowl of Lor Mee I collected is definitely worth the three dollar I have paid. The gravy is appropriately sticky and thick, which is what a typical Lor Mee should be. But ISLE Cafe has killed the competitors with added amount of ingredients and even thrown in a big fried wanton. How could a Lor mee be complete without the minced garlic, chilli sauce and black vinegar? ISLE Cafe is generous in providing these condiments in case you are the one who love that extra kick!
