Co-founded by a team of Japanese partners, Senior Mr. Lim and his son Chef Jason Lim, this restaurant offers one of the best ramen in Singapore - all thanks to Chef Jason's love for ramen, his hunt around Japan, his studies at the Yamato Noodle School as well as unique scientific methods of cooking. The interior decor was simple and rather Zen, reminiscent of ramen restaurants lining Japan streets, and the service is attentive and polite even during peak hours

The Pork Gyoza (SGD$5.00) had a class of its own - crispy on the outside, especially around the edges; filled with moist and scrumptious pork and leek stuffing within.

The Signature Tonkotsu Ramen (SGD$14.50), made up of lovely flavored egg, utterly tender grilled pork slices, al dente fine noodles so enticing to chew on, and saccharine, slurp-it-up good pork-spices broth. I upped the level of spiciness for extra kick.

Located on the ground level of Robinson Centre along Robinson Road in the Central Business District (CBD), Men Tei occupys a small space that is simpley done up and seats probably about 20 pax tops. The menu occupies a single sheet of paper (6 different types of ramen) so if you are looking for variety, this place is probably out.

Shio Ramen - You have the option of specifying the "doneness" of your noodles, ranging from normal, hard or extra hard. I didn't know that until after my ramen was served so I am assuming they gave me the normal option. I thought that it was a little too soft but at least it retained a little chewiness. The ramen broth honestly wasn't very robust and I couldn't quite make out any pork taste. Simply put, it was just salty but light. The egg was quite well done - quivery without being overly soft while the yakibuta (3 slices) was tender and flavourful.

Spicy Tonkatsu Ramen - Although the spicy ramen looked the part, it actually wasn't that bad and that's coming from someone who has a low tolerance for spiciness. As with the Shio ramen, the broth wasn't very robust but the yakibuta and tamago were equally good.

For the price, I honestly think its value for money given the quality of the ramen. Service is decent as well and best of all, there is no queue when you dine there on weekday evenings (they do not open on weekends or public holidays). The same can't be said for weekday lunch though. Men Tei also provides a delivery service to nearby offices for those who crave ramen but are too busy to step out.

I had the tonkutsu ramen. I have the habit of tasting the soup first before mixing everything together. First taste, thought it was normal, doesn't have the sweet n thick taste of pork-bone broth. i tried mixing everything together after thinking it will taste better. No luck. Its still the same.....

Next i tried the noodles. Not Q enough which is a huge disappointment for me. The charsiew was quite tough at certain parts but people watching their health should be happy to know that there's not much fat on the charsiew here. They serve half a egg with each bowl of noodles and the yolk wasn't runny enough. Best part of the ramen will be the bamboo shoots, thinly sliced and there's no smell. if only my other preferred ramen joints can have the same bamboo shoots.....

I am seriously hooked on to men tei’s extra spicy ramen! I love the tingling sensation of the spiciness it leaves in my mouth. The noodles are totally yummu, QQ! The soup is spicy to me, but very tasty as well, not too salty yet not too bland, just nice. The char siew slices are very tender, and they soak up the spicy soup making it really delicious! A must order when there!
