Went to Straits Cafe for a gathering with old friends. We had the buffet which cost each of us around $30 ~. i like the salmon which tastes fresh and also goes well with the wasabi another recommended dish is their dessert. Mango plus the strawberry ^^ tastes yummy....one is not enough and i have another one. the meat served like the fish is not oily just nice with a bit of noodle and sauce. Durian fever has hit a few months late but this cake makes up for the lost time. Armed with walnuts on the top, it gives the taster a rest over the overwhelming durian flavoured cake with it’s neutral bitter like taste. Straits Café for buffet dinner with my good friend! There is a wide variety of main dishes which I love! They include the Beef rendang, Laksa, Braised duck and many more! At Straits Cafe, they offer very good range of Asian cruisines prepared by their popular chefs. Venue is good for gathering and is located near the center of orchard road. Do try their durian cake as is their signature food. Generous durian fillings in between the layers of butter sponge cake. Buffet includes free flow coffee and tea as well. One weekday afternoon, we headed to Straits Cafe at Rendezvous Hotel for a sumptuous lunch. The buffet was pretty good, with a wide spread of variety. Some of the highlights were their laksa, crabs and durian desserts which I tremendously enjoyed. Their sushi and sashimi were fresh and delicious! Also equally good was their crabs and prawns. There were many types of durian desserts like durian puffs, durian puree (my favorite), cakes and crepes. Service was average though. The staffs were not very attentive as they forgot to fill our glasses with water. The buffet could be better with more drinks offered instead of just coffee/tea/tea-tarik. I was treated to my dream buffet venue on our monthly anniversary by my bf - the Straits Cafe. In the past, I had always envy those who were dining inside this nice-looking restaurant with equally yummy-looking food. Now, I have the chance to be one of the lucky fellas The choices were not that many. In fact, I had seen what was being offered in the restaurant in less than 5 minutes. However, the seafood was really fresh and I took a whole plate of my favourite salmon and the big, juicy prawns. The award-winning nonya laksa was worth trying and I managed to try a little of everything in the buffet spread. My favourite would be dessert - durian puree. I was lured back to Straits Cafe by the Women's weekly 1-1 promotion and their famous Durian Fudge cake. Many hotels boast Durian desserts as their signature dishes but Straits Cafe is one of the few that never fails to disappoint. Layers of ordinary yellow sponge cake is filled with chunks of creamy, savoury durian meat. The aroma of the durian is so strong that it completely overtakes the whole cake and makes it an sensation altogether!Besides the durian fudge cake, I must say the array and the quality of the remaining buffet dishes are just slightly above average as compared to Shang Ri La's "the Line".
