scrumptious japanese dinner

a friend introduced this place to me. didnt think of coming here since its quite hidden on the upper floors of wheelock place. surprisely packed at dinner time. we had to queue and the staff reminded us to finish our meal in 1.5 hours . apparently they only have a few seatings per day. Love the japanese food here. price is reasonable and i like how their dishes are made with delicate care and exquisiteness. ordered their signature pork rice dish which i heard they had to steam it ready right in

ordered their signature pork rice dish which i heard they had to steam it ready right in the metal tin. tender pork with half cooked egg drizzled in between, giving it the added moisture and creaminess. if you prefer, theres another option with the egg hard boiled

sheared salmon salad - yum, sheared is always good

This stir fried flat noodles here is full with their special in house sauce flavour which you cannot really get from any where in town. The dark sweet sauce used in it has really make this flat noodles very fragrant and with the added vegetables and onions in it has added that crunchness to it. The add some colour to it (which is my guess), the Japanese chef has added a well down fried omelette on top of the noodles. Dessert at Sun with Moon Wheelock

After Dinner at Paragon, my girlfriend had a craving for green tea dessert. So i brought her to my favourite japanese restaurant located at Wheelock - Sun with Moon. They have one of the best varieties and quality of japanese food at an affordable price. I personally adores their green tea ice cream dessert. Expectations tend to screw things up sometimes

Had dinner at the Wheelock outlet of Sun with Moon cafe, a sister establishment of Sun Japanese Dining at CHIJMES. From what I know, both establishments have almost the same menu, with the exception of a few more upscale items that only Sun Japanese Dining carries.The interior is significantly different from other Japanese restaurants that I've dined at, blending in modern architecture with wooden finishes and dim lighting to give that Zen feel. Had dinner at the Wheelock outlet of Sun with Moon cafe, a sister establishment of Sun Japanese Dining at CHIJMES. From what I know, both establishments have almost the same menu, with the exception of a few more upscale items that only Sun Japanese Dining carries.

The interior is significantly different from other Japanese restaurants that I've dined at, blending in modern architecture with wooden finishes and dim lighting to give that Zen feel. Nice cosy corner tables are seperated by a semi permeable screen which allow for some degree of privacy (Thats if you are lucky enough to get them).

The Hitokuchi Pork Katsu - Deep Fried Pork Cube came on the recommendations list and I was all geared up to eat some kick ass pork. Sadly, it didn't quite meet my expectations. The pork was quite decent, chunky and chewy but the deep fried exterior made for a very nauseating experience after a few mouthfuls. Think a souped up version of Pork Katsu. Nothing fanciful to say the least.

As per my writeup on Sun Japanese Dining, the Avocado Soft Shell Roll was good. The rice was a tad sticky and the soft shell crab gave it a slight smoky taste. The generous drizzling of mayonnaise did help as well.

Now for the bummer. The Ebi Tempura was merely average at best. For starters, the batter was a little too thick and tasteless and so were the prawns. The dipping sauce was bland as well, making the whole dish one big expensive joke ($22). The only saving grace was that the batter wasn't too heavy on the oil.

The Pork Yakisoba - Stir Fried Noodle with Pork had a slight burnt taste which went down quite well with me. The servings of pork slices were generous and so were the cuttlefish() shavings. A nice mixture of smokiness and saltiness as a whole. A word of caution against eating too much though.

An intriguing name, a less intriguing taste. The tofu cheesecake had no tofu taste whatsoever. Tasted like a lighter (and much smaller) version of the Cheese Cake to me. Decent rendition, coming across as fluffy and light, although a tad too sticky.

I've learnt that appearances can be deceiving. Such was the case with the Monaka. It looked absolutely tantalizing when I first set my eyes on it. Alas, it was anything but. The wafer tasted like it was made from low quality batter while the red bean came across as rather watery. The sweet potato tasted like red bean (how weird) and the ice cream was your run off the mill kind. Sheer disappointment.

While I wouldn't say in excess of $80 is a lot to pay for Japanese food, its certainly pushing the limits for such an average display of food. I had certainly expected more from this place, given all the good things that I've heard about it. Or maybe its just that I ordered the wrong dishes.

To satisfy our desire for variety, we ordered a Shokado Bento lunch Set to share as we were quite full after brunch.Fresh sashimi freshly served on ice. Fresh sashimi

There are some disappointing dishes as well - the tempura was a bit oily without the raddish mash and Tori Karaage was dry too.

You won't regret trying the salmon kamameshi!

I'm not quite sure if this dish is available in other Japanese restaurants, but I first had this dish in Sun with Moon. This set comes with a teapot filled with broth, rice and salmon served in a metal bowl, salmon sashimi and fruit. There are 2 or 3 ways to eat the dish. Apart from eating it alone, you can pour in the broth from the teapot and eat it like porridge. Or you can just add in a little to flavour the rice. However, I find it best when both are eaten separately as the rice is already

 However, I find it best when both are eaten separately as the rice is already flavoured enough. There are also generous slices of cooked salmon in the bowl. It's well worth a try if you haven't had this dish before!

Japanese cuisines! It's pretty expensive i find. I had Ebi Tartar avocado salad. I love avocado, so everything that goes with it is perfect! I was a little disappointed because i can't taste any ebi! Probably just 1 or 2 super small diced ones. Pathetic!Salmon sashimi is okay but kinda letdown too. It is pretty filmsy and splits very easily. A sign that it ain't fresh? I've got no idea since it didn't have any smell.Yamagawa have the best sashimi still!!!

Great ambience for Japanese food

It's been years I had gone to Sun with Moon. The menu has definitely changed and we had many options to choose from for our dinner. There were 3 of us, and we decided to order to share our food.  The chirashi don with soft shell crab tempura was really good. We love the freshness and sweetness of the fresh sashimi on the chirashi don, it includes scallop sashimi, salmon, avocado, eel, tamago, ikura and fish roe. All tastes so delicious and appetizing.

The original cheesecake tofu is still as great, the texture, the taste is superb. However, it was not presented to us in the usual little bird cage. We see it being served to other tables though, hence we see a non standardisation over here.

first time try at the wheelock place outlet, thought the deco at clark quay outlet was nice but then 1 at wheelock is even better. lots of comfy sofa seats so is a great place to chill out with friends. I felt the food choice seem to be lesser than the clark quay outlet. Ordered the steam rice this time but not as nice as expected but the beef steak was great & juicy!!!

This is a great place to go if you want to have japanese food. The food was great - we ordered sukiyaki (both the beef one and the chicken one with collagen ball). The soup for both were great though remember to order an extra bowl of rice as it isn't very filling. We also had saba fish which i felt was a little dry but still decent. For this branch at wheelock, it was a little quieter than the one at Clarke Quay though the ques are about the same so do remember to book if you're coming during dinner time with a rather big group. They also have very little tables to cater to big groups, mostly only suitable for 3-4 people dining.

My favorite Macha parfait of all times at Sun with moon. I totally love the taste of the green tea ice cream with mixture of corn flakes, mochi, sponge cake and waffles in the cup of ice cream. It cost $10.90 each. I ordered the unagi sushi rolls as well. The fish was fresh and the rice were well rolled. It costs around $15 per plate.

Sun with Moon is pretty Japanese dining restaurant in town. The prices of the dishes are justifiable for their quality of food. We went to Sun with Moon for dinner on Christmas Eve, and as expected the queue was really long and we had to wait for 30 minutes before we were allocated a table. I ordered the grilled Teriyaki chicken and a rice bowl and a macha paffet (ice cream). It costs $8.80 for the teriyaki chicken and $2 for a rice bowl and $8.80 for the ice cream. my best friend gave us a dinner treat at sun with moon the other day. The place was really nice for us to chill out and catch up. It was very comfy too. I order their grilled salmon and chicken hot plate. It was really good. The salmon was really fresh and sweet. The chicken was cut into bite size, very easy to eat. It came with corn, French bean and potato wedges. The portion was just nice, not too large yet enough to fill up my stomach. Really great!

Sun with moon does serve really good Japanese food. Whenever I am craving for Japanese food, Sun with Moon will come to my mind! I love to order this fried tofu. I love the crispiness on the outside and the soft and smooth on the inside. Drenched with their tasty gravy, it is indeed very delicious! They are also very generous with the flakes.
