Cathay Cineleisure Orchard has never been my favourite place in town but if there's one place I'll go back to: This is it. I've always been an ardent fan of their tom yum fried rice -unfortunately, I learnt just yesterday evening that they removed it from their menu. In a lacklustre attempt to satisfy the tom yum fried rice craving, I ordered rice with Seafood Tom Yum Soup ($5.50). My dining companion ordered a Pineapple fried rice set ($7) that came with a small bowl of tom yum soup and a dish of papaya/mango salad.
*I would very much rather the stall owners used fish instead of crabsticks -not a fan of crabsticks at all.
The sour papaya salad had peanuts and chilli in it, with a special homemade sauce. Tangy and refreshing -definitely an alternative to conventional salads, but a bit too sour to be eaten on its own. As a side however, it's perfect. I appreciated the peanuts -really uplifted the dish.
Overall, this place is not too bad. The value isn't that great after all but I suppose it's worth a try if you have a craving for Thai food and you're in the area.
