Main dishes is cod fish cooked with a nice sauce and also serve with a creamy yum sauce. The veggies I think boiled alittle too long and the fish texture is alittle rough.

I’m a big fan of pandan, this ice cream have really nice pandan flavour blended in. The cake and coconut jelly is too sweet for me.

Finally got to try the recently introduced Heritage Afternoon Tea menu created by Shermay Lee, owner of Shermay's Cooking School, and also author of Peranakan Cookbooks capturing traditional nonya recipes past down from her grandma. This menu is available at the newly renovated upmarket restaurant, Clifford Pier, at the Fullerton Bay hotel.

The first thing that struck us was the imposing X'mas tree beautifully dressed in classy Tiffany blue theme, with a huge Tiffany gift box at the base.

We arrived a little early and got to hang around the posh lobby taking photos while waiting for the restaurant to start sitting guests for afternoon tea.

I took a dozen photos of the stunning Clifford Pier, with iconic colonial style ceilings and stylishly designed decor and furnishings. This restaurant has the best hi tea ambiance so far among the 5 stars hotels I've been to.

At exactly 3.30pm, the restaurant opens for afternoon tea, and we were ushered swiftly to our seats. Check out the simple and chic table settings and condiments.

Cream cheese, Pandan kaya, Pineapple jam, Fruit jam, Chilli sauce & Butter.

The Afternoon Tea menu ($43++) consists of 8 savory treats and 8 sweet treats that has distinct Peranakan influences, and a selection of local (Teh Tarik, Kopi Kosong & Air Bandung) and western favorite beverages to go with the food. Both food and drinks are free flow.

For starters, I ordered the Teh Tarik while hubby had the Cafe Latte. The Teh Tarik was not too bad but a tad sweet. I'm more impressed with the ice Bandung drink which was really fragrant and refreshing.

In the midst of sipping tea, the restaurant suddenly came alive when a pianist started playing at the grand piano in the middle of the restaurant and singing live for the patrons. And, he sang quite well too.

The first dish arrived after a short wait, and it was served on a plate. A pair of Kurobuta Pork Kong Ba Bao & Chilli Crab Mantou. Both were delicious, the braised pork belly was soft and well infused with flavor, and the chilli crab filling has got chunky crabmeat with tasty tomato sauce. A nice start to the meal!

On the top tier was scones, Buttermilk scones & Tropical fruits scones. They were not too buttery and taste good with the pandan kaya and pineapple jam. Some scone lovers may find them not buttery enough though.

The middle tier contains the savory snacks and sandwiches. Handcrafted Kueh Pie Tee, Mini Po Piah Wrapped in Nonya Egg Skin, Nonya Chicken Curry & Roti Jala Wrap, Bak Kwa Finger Sandwich, Hae Bee Hiam Sandwich & Otak Sandwich.

The savories were my favorite, we ordered second helping of the Chilli Crab mantou and the Kueh Pie Tee. The Chicken Curry & Roti Jala Wrap, Bak Kwa & Hae Bee Hiam sandwiches were commendable too. The only disappointment is the Otak sandwich, the otak is low quality and chewy, not nice.

At the bottom tier were the sweet treats. As it was X'mas month, they replaced some of the original pastries with Christmas pastries. We have Roselle Jam Linzer Cookie, Bandung Macaron, Red Velvet Swiss Roll, Mixed Fruit Cake, Christmas Fruit Cake & Pear Tart.

The sweets were not very impressive, I only liked the Red velvet swiss roll and the Pear tart cookie, the Bandung macaron was overly sweet and '漏风'! The rest were forgettable.

Despite having some minor misses with food quality, the afternoon tea experience was pretty awesome and we really adored the gorgeous ambiance of this elegant establishment. Service rendered here was good, I would gladly return to try the original menu after the festive seasons.

Charmed by its 10 metres high ceiling and the elegance of the entire environment, overlooking the inspiring water at the bay, it had already won my heart over. To add on, their vintage furnishings with its solid herringbone oak flooring made the environment gorgeous. Though it may seem a little quaint but definitely a charming place presenting a homely feel to all diners, a great spot for romance as well as business.

We had a long wait before this signature apple tart tartin appears before us (I guess they baked it from the scratch). Tart was cut into smaller pieces on the pan and served upside down. The friendly server than placed one piece of it onto our plates which were already adorn with a scoop of vanilla bean ice cream and dash of caramel on the plate.

Considering its price tag, perhaps many would have turn off after looking at its menu. However, I will like to emphasize that for the excellent ambiance, food quality and personalized service, its all worth the money spend for a memorable session here in Clifford.

Overall the afternoon tea items here were average so don't expect anything that is mind-blowing.. But they were very generous to provide so many items for afternoon tea. We feel very full after we finished the 2 tiers, so we have to force ourselves to finish the 3rd tier. Therefore i think no refill of the items is needed unless you're a super big eater..

The main attraction to dine here is the lavish ambience rather than the food. But somehow it's a pity that the local hawker fare does not fit into the classy ambience here... This gorgeous restaurant should serve fine dining food or at least serve other types of food rather than hawker fare.

Another attraction to have afternoon tea here: The pianist-singer has a very nice & charming vocal that is very soothing to the ear!! It's a great pleasure to be here to enjoy the lush ballads. Only on Mon-Sat from 3-5pm!

Revisited another day to try their Pandan Ice-Cream Sandwich (Photo attached). I love it so much!  The Pandan Ice Cream was marvellous! It was very smooth and creamy with the fragrance of Pandan and complemented the soft rainbow sandwich! It's very rare to find Pandan ice cream else where in Singapore. I'm glad to find it at The Clifford Pier! A very wonderful dessert to make you end with a smile!

As for the service, there were some hits and misses from the waitresses. Only the manager (Elvin) provides the best service which was worth to mention on that day!

French Onion Soup - Sweet without coming across as overly heavy but a little lacking in cheese in my humble opinion. Still a decent French onion soup nonetheless.

Foie Gras Pan Seared with Cresses Salad Fresh Fig and Figs Jam on Brioche - I thought the foie gras was pretty good but could do with a little more searing to achieve a lightly crisp surface. The buttery goodness from the brioche complimented the sweetness of the foie gras but this is seriously a heart stopping combination. Portions are a little small as well for a $12++ top up charge.

Whole Lobster Angel Hair With Fresh Tomato, Sweet Basil and Lobster Butter Sauce - This required a top up of $25++ and even though the lobster chunks were aplenty and crunchy, the angel hair pasta was a little too soggy, probably the end result of sitting too long in the tomato sauce. One other issue I had was that the tomato sauce, whilst lightly tart and zesty, became a little boring after a while and the whole dish lacked variation in flavours. It was just tomato, tomato, tomato. I couldn't even make out the sweetness of the lobster.

Clifford Signature Duck Confit - I had this during my previous visit and remembered it to be very good. And it didn't disappoint. Crisp on the outside but moist and tender on the inside. No truffle mash this time round though.

Slice Of Chocolate - This was essentially a chocolate hazelnut tart served with passion fruit sorbet and chocolate crumble. The chocolate was rich with a nice hazelnut taste but didn't across as too heavy. I personally liked the crunchy wafer layer wedged in between. And the passionfruit sorbet wasn't as sour as I had expected it to be. Pretty nice dessert!

After the top ups, the bill for 2 came to about $173, which sorta straddled the line on the value for money criteria. Food at Clifford was a case of hits and misses but the entire experience was generally a positive one. Coupled with great ambience and good service, I might return but probably only for brunch or restaurant week where it won't cost me an arm or a leg to dine there.

had a most enjoyable lunch at clifford, fullerton bay hotel, on 27.3.2014, in the company of good friends – hugo, a close dutch friend was visiting singapore, & PL, who had helped me a lot in my earlier ventures, and who insisted on buying lunch.

we were served bread – baguette & multi-grain roll. both were good, and especially so as they were served with duck rillettes in addition to the usual butter.

i had lunch at clifford maybe 1.5 years ago with my dining quartet which has now discontinued. food & ambience were truly excellent, especially as we had the uob 1 for 1 at S$68 (so S$34pax) 3-course lunch then. :-)
the price is a lot more now, 2-course for S$48, and 3-course for S$58, coffee included. we took the 2-course. the appetizer choices included a salmon tartar, a mushroom veloute & i think a salad (cannot quite recall). the mains choices included a herb crusted lamb loin, a dory fillet, and a pasta (can’t recall what). there were a lot more appetizer & mains choices but they came with supplements.
PL ordered the lobster salad (top photo – looked just fabulous) – S$12 supplement, and the 220g beef entrecot (a ribeye or scotch fillet steak) – S$25 supplement. i ordered the salmon tartar & lamb loin & Hugo ordered same salmon & the dory. the salmon tartar was a good-size helping.
the suave, efficient & polite restaurant manager prakash came by to ask about the food, so i gave him some feedback. i thought the salmon tartar was very fresh & sweet but the sour cream distracted & did not quite enhance the flavour (this part of course is subjective taste…). personally i like it with just sea salt & pepper & olive oil. those might already have been incorporated so perhaps just some additional fresh ground black peppers.

i thought the prices were really too high, though fortunately the regular appetiser & mains (i.e. w/o supplements) were quite excellent. compare this with les amis’ 4-course S$45pax set lunch, which included choice of patagonia toothfish (the excellent chilean seabass my favourite fish) or quail. to be fair, i have not tried the les amis set lunch yet (will do soon enough!), but you know it’s les amis!

likewise the excellent S$45pax set lunch we had at au jar din! & au jardin’s plating was also somewhat more artisan by comparison!
prakash was very receptive & accommodating. he offered us a complementary citrus lychee drink. PL declined so we had 2 glasses.
my herb crusted lamb loin was excellent, nicely medium rare & flavourful with hardly any gamey taste. the dory looked great. my friends were asking what was the crust (breadcrumbs with spinach, basil etc) as c/w my own pistachio crusted rack of lamb.
the beef entrecot looked perfectly charred. PL like it well done. somehow it did not quite look like 220g, not sure if it was dry aged for more intense flavours & so had some weight loss.
we had coffee & petit four (which means small oven & not 4 items!). macarons were too sweet. nutty chocolates were ok. i did not try the cake but it should be good.
overall, the service was efficient & responsive, the ambience was just super, and the food quality quite excellent. i can’t say food was better than au jardin though (in fact i thought au jardin’s was better) & of course the price was not just marginally but significantly higher than les amis (S$48 2-course vs S$45 4-course set lunch) or au jardin. i will come here for its great ambience, service & food, but sparingly.

BFF W and I enjoyed a fabulous dinner at Clifford and were very impressed with the offerings. I hope I’am able to book Clifford again this year for lunch. Located at the opulent Fullerton Bay Hotel, Clifford will wow you with their lavish ambience, great food and professional hospitality.

Upon stepping into Clifford, I was blown away! It’s evident that no expense was spared with the décor and furnishings- 10 meter high floor to ceiling windows, Ivory French paneling, huge mirrors, herringbone oak floors and plush chairs. The restaurant overlooks the Clifford Pier, offering diners an enchanting waterfront dining experience.

Considering this is a classy place, I was rather surprised that our table was quite small and the space between tables was not as wide as I would have preferred.

While most restaurants serve a selection of 3 courses, Clifford dishes out 4 courses for $55++.
We kicked start the meal with a basket of warm bread, served with tasty duck rillette and smooth butter.

A bowl of piping hot bowl of flavorsome Onion soup with Melted Gruyere Cheese Crouton arrived. I was glad that the serving was small as the filling soup was rich with a generous amount of caramelized onions. I like how the Gruyere Cheese mellowed down the salty soup.

Our next course was a platter of 3 beautifully presented Hors d’oeuvres prepared using high quality ingredients.

Buffalo and Pissaladiere: Marinated Anchovies, creamy Buffalo Mozzarella and Roasted Tomato Tart sits atop crispy, flaky puff pastry.

Wagyu Beef Carpaccio accompanied with grilled porcini, Arugula, and Parmesan lace. Because I don’t eat raw meat, I passed it to W who was pleased with it. The appetizing parmesan lace hid underneath the meat, waiting to give diners a surprise.

Delectable Confit Ocean Trout, which went very well with black olive dust and sour, zesty lemon cucumber crème fraiche.

W’s main course was Roasted beef with Bordelaise glaze, with cepe mushrooms and fragrant truffle fries. The best part of this dish was the fries. I had great difficulty refraining myself from nipping too many of W’s fries.

Nicely Pan Fried Sea bass with a golden crust atop char grilled zucchini; Mint and fresh tomato relish on the side.

Desserts, petit fours and hot beverages came together. We could select from a range of Fullerton Bay Blend coffee or TWG teas. Since I had to work the next day and didn’t want to have any trouble sleeping that night, I chose chamomile tea, which came with cute jar of honey.

I wasn’t too impressed with the dessert, because of the paltry serving. It has everything I adore-Profiterole filled with crème Chantilly, warm dark chocolate sauce and passion fruit puree. 2 small profiteroles certainly didn’t satisfy me

We round off our meal with macarons, meringues and Kueh Lapis. Erm….kueh lapis, French restaurant…we don’t understand what’s the link???

In conclusion, it was a lovely dinner, although I wish the sweets fared better. I hope to revisit sometime soon

With its lavishly furnished interior - think gilt mirrors, dark expensive wood, ornate furniture, and scented candles, this place hits one like a movie setting. Everything was glossy and perfect, a mixture of contemporary high life with hints of vintage. The wait staff were polite and professional as well. We loved the ambience itself already - even before being escorted to the tables with crisp white tablecloths and plush seats.
Then my Honey Truffle Glazed Suckling Pig dish came - the cracklingly crispy skin concealing exceedingly tender, juicy flesh beneath it was heavenly to the bite - all the flavors of the pork itself, mercilessly bathed over with black truffle, Parsnip puree and cipollini - it was literally an explosion of goodness in the jaws.

Another starter is Soup D’Onions Gratinee - Traditional rich onion soup With melted gruyere cheese crouton which is filled with the sweetness of onion. It seems that the soup is served in a hurry as the side of the bowl is stained with the soup.

As for the main, the Signature Duck Confit - Truffle potato mousseline, black garlic sautéed broad beans, field greens, which looks plain but tastes great.

For a topup of $12, we have Wagyu Foie Gras Burger with Caramelized Onion Jam and a Slab of Seared Foie Gras. Great serving with huge slice of foie gras. But the patty is overcooked and a bit dry. It is served with crispy truffle fries, which remains crispy when cold too.

Followed by Strawberry Consommé - Red berries compote, orange caramel tulip strawberry sorbet for dessert, which is more of a palate cleanser than a dessert.

We end the meal with latte which fails in its presentation which I cannot expect for such a restaurant. There is no distinct layer between the coffee, milk and foam. The coffee and milk is blended together with foam on top.

The plate of petits fours is not served with the lattes. We wait quite awhile and decide to request for it. Guess the staff may have forgotten about it. Interesting having Kueh lapis as petits four.

Overall it is a nice and relaxing place to be having a meal. The meal has a great start but ends on a poor note.

The boston lobster is my favorite. You can tell its delicacy from the picture.

By the way, we chose their champagne free flow. Forgot to check the label but we enjoyed it anyway.

This place is a little pricy, but it is definitely the perfect place to celebrate all the special occasions.

We managed to get a last minute cancellation for Clifford on a weekday lunch. Even though it cost $5 more than other dinning star restaurant at $45 it was worth every cents. I was mistaken that I can see Marina Bay Sand from the full glass window. You only get a partial view at the outdoor sitting. From the inside you face Custom House. The restaurant is designed by Andre Fu which has a high ceiling and natural light coming from the full glass window. The classy layout is similiar to St Regis's

We were served multi-grain buns and French loaves to go with butter and delicious duck pate. The lightly salted pate goes well with the bread.

As part of Restaurant Week Menu we had 2 choices of Starters and Main Courses. Since there were 2 of us, we pick both to share. When Thong the service staff heard we were sharing, he provided us with 2 sets of plates and put the different courses in the center of the table.

Tuna Escabece consist of 3 pieces of 1cm thick tuna served with pickle onion, on a side a crispy toast with pickled herring. Tasting the tuna on its own has no taste until you combined with the pickle vegetables to produce a sweet sour combination on the jelly texture tuna.

Champane Terraine is the starter I like between the two. It is like a slice of meat loaf made up of minced pork and chicken liver and do not taste of liquor. The outer layer seem to be covered with bacon. It goes very well with bread and the accompanied house pickled vegetable to balance the taste. The other side dishes of lentil was just right, not too soft or hard.

The Signature Duck Confit and Baked Loupe De Mere were the main courses. The light brown duck was tender and not salty which is a perfect combination for the salty black garlic. The very smooth and creamy Truffle Potato Mousseline served in a copper pan feel like eating warm ice cream.

The baked fish sits on a bed of confit tomatoe and artichoke. The fish is lightly salted as most of their dishes has subtle taste which the accompanied sides bring it to the next level.

For coffee they served Fullerton Bay Blend Coffee and TWG tea. They have a choice of English Breakfast, Darjeeling and Earl Grey. I picked Earl Grey which French Earl Grey was served in a heavy sliver tea pot. A plate of chocolate, macaroons and Kuih Lapis (layer cake) was served with our coffee & tea.

To end the meal on a sweet note, we were served not one but a trio of Crème Brule. It is the first time I eating Crème Brule not from a dessert bowl but like a egg tart. The shell is like a biscuit filled with egg custards and sprinkled with caramilsed sugar. The 3 flavours are chocolate, original and pandan. It also served with fluffy mini citrus madeleine.

The service staff Thong accompanied my elderly dad to the Gent and when Thong find he took a long time coming out he even went to check on him. For his excellent service and beyond his call of duty he should be nominated for Excellent Service Award.

Please note that Mineral water are extra cost.

This is the Best Resturant out of the 3 which I have attended during Restaurant Week. It has beautiful food presentation, nice combination of taste, and excellent service which makes the whole experience very satisfactory.

The main was roasted cod with a saffron & chorizo risotto. The seasoning on the dish was way too delicate, the risotto was a terrible let down. It was overcooked, mushy, &still flavourless despite the chunks of chorizo which should have given it some serious flavour.
I think their standard have drop,overall i rate 6/10

My starter of compressed watermelon with lobster tail and basil tomato-avocado salad ($22++) turned out to be my favourite dish that day. So clean tasting and refreshing, I love the simplicity of this!

The duo Hokkaido sea scallop and Boston lobster carpaccio with black truffles vinaigrette ($28++) was normal-nice, just nothing to write home about.

Sigh, I had high hopes for the roasted cod with saffron risotto and parmesan emulsion ($36++) but alas, it was not meant to be. I can handle light dishes but this was far too bland and under-seasoned.

Cakes and pastries, step aside. I’m so in the mood for ice cream these days! Made in house daily, 8 flavours were available that day and insanely enough, I tested all 8~

Ice cream: vanilla, creme fraiche, mascapone and chocolate.

Sorbet: yogurt, coconut, mango lime and apricot.

A couple of unfortunate ice crystals detected, and while there’s none that I didn’t like, no particular flavour stood out from the pack either. But if I’ve really got to choose, I’d pick the coconut sorbet again cuz I like its tropical intensity =)

At $14++ for 4 small scoops of icy delights, these are not exactly cheap. Then again, premium ambience can be pretty pricey these days.

The Clifford Restaurant
You would have to take a long stroll, walk pass the Front office and ”The Landing Point” before you could get to The Clifford .

Ambience
Fine-dining , tall ceilings and pillars, boost modern and elegant design of the restaurant. A perfect place for have a ”Power-lunch”.

The Menu
There aren’t many choices of food in the menu and the prices are priced on the higher side. Well, it’s a 5 * hotel and you are paying more for the ambience and service.

Set lunch menu
The set lunch menu is changed on alternate days so that repeat guests would not get bored of the same dishes. The set lunch is priced at $36++ ( 2 course) or $45 ( 3 course ).

Warm & Crusty Baguette
The baguette were served warm and CRUSTY ( Super crusty) but I find it a little too dry.

Classic caesar salad with egg & bacon
The salad portion just enough for 1 pax. On top of the romaine lettuce sits a poached egg and the salad was ordinary.

Grilled Seabream , artichoke barigoule
This is a very light and healthy dish. The 2 palm-sized seabream fillets were lightly grilled and served in a clear broth with artichokes and carrots. It was simple yet the the natural flavour of the fish was retained.

Petite 4 :Chocolate with hazelnuts, lemon-flavoured marshmallow, chocolate cookies
The LEMON- flavoured marshmallows were delicious but the chocolate cookies were too sweet and lacks the ”melt in your mouth ” texture, pass.

Verdict: The service is professional and outstanding but the food was just ordinary. I take it as an experience to experience the novelty of the hotel & excellent service of the staffs.

Clifford Pier, which used to be a landing point for immigrants and sea passengers in its heyday, has seen a huge transformation in recent times into what is now known as the Fullerton Bay Hotel. In it houses Clifford, a swanky French American restaurant that is aptly named after this iconic Singapore landmark.

The hotel is beautiful, with vast sea views through windows that seem to stretch on forever. And the restaurant itself is no exception. Designed by Andre Fu, who is apparently one of Asia's highly sought after architect, the interior boasts high columns and ceilings, tall drapery and classic wood furnishing. In two words, awe inspiring. Throw in views of the sea and you are all set for a wonderful atmosphere.

Complimentary Bread - Imagine my surprise when our complimentary bread came with a small dish of pork rillette. Though not as moist or exquisite as Aronia De Takazawa's (http://www.timelessfacade.com/2010/07/aronia-de-takazawa-life-changing.html) Okinawan pork rendition, it was still much appreciated, especially with the warm, crusty and chewy baguette. Very good start.

3 Hr Homemade Duck Confit - You get a choice of either truffle mashed potatoes or pommes sarladaise (potatoes sauteed in duck fat and garlic). I chose the former although it is said that the latter goes best with duck confit. No regrets though as the mashed potato was very smooth with a nice truffle taste and fragrance at the top layer. The duck confit was of the crisp variant and I must say I enjoyed it quite a fair bit. Crispy roasted skin and tender meat without the excessive salt. But as you know, duck confit is essentially duck cooked in its own fat, so watch out for the oil.

Truffle Fries - At $9 a pop (we ordered 2), this is some seriously expensive fries for its portion size (imagine a packet of small fries from MacDonalds). But hey, anything with truffle is nice (I'm biased!) and the fries went like hotcakes (proves my point). It definitely helped that the fries were fresh and not reeking of rancid oil.

Dessert Sample - There is a grand total of 5 desserts on the menu and if you are hard pressed to pick one or are dying to try everything, just go for the dessert sample, which includes a sample of everything - namely, Dark Chocolate Fondant, Passion Fruit Rum Baba, Sugar Crusted Profiteroles, Creme Brulee and Lemon Tart.
The chocolate fondant had a nice crisp shell that crumbled under pressure from a spoon, revealing a rather thin and not too viscous filling of molten chocolate. However, the chocolate was surprisingly quite rich and overall, I thought it was quite good.
This is honestly my first time eating rum baba (a small yeast cake soaked in rum) and I liked it quite a fair bit. Soft, moist and rather sourish(from the infusion of passion fruit) with a very strong rum taste. Served up with mango tartar and yogurt sorbert, with the latter being sublimely smooth and good.
I like my profiteroles drenched in molten chocolate sauce and this one met that criteria, well almost. The pastry held up well against the chocolate sauce and didn't come across as limp. Quite good.
Beautifully torched on the surface, coupled with a smooth and creamy texture, the creme brulee had nothing going against it. Well, maybe except for the less than generous use of vanilla beans.
Last but not least, the lemon tart, which was surprisingly quite good to me, given that I am not exactly a big fan of sour stuff. The tart base was nice and crumbly with a wholesome baked taste attached to it but more importantly (to me at least), the tartness of the lemon filling was pleasantly mild.

Petit Fours - A nice simple gesture to end off our meal. But how are we suppose to split 2 pieces of cookies and marshmallows between the 5 of us?

With 2 bottles of still water, the bill for the 5 of us came up to about $318, which isn't too expensive if you ask me. Especially when the food is decent and the ambience, great. Service could have been better as the wait staff did seem a little withdrawn and cold though executing their duties perfectly. I would love to be back, especially for dinner. And yes, they do serve ice water. ;)
