The Square @ Furama introduces a slew of international culinary gems that bring out the best flavours of the East and the West in the buffet and a la carte spread. For vegetarian and halal options you can request for the a la carte spread. The square is a very big restaurant that can accommodate large groups. It is always full house during the 1 for 1 credit card promotion so do make your reservation at least 1-2 weeks in advance! As you walk in from the entrance, you are greeted by the desserts.

As you walk in from the entrance, you are greeted by the desserts. Gotta love how they organized the buffet. Walking in and smelling the sweet caramelized desserts, seeing the cheesecakes and ice cream freezer was definitely welcoming.

An interesting item that I spotted from the buffet spread was this fried prawn with chicken floss. The Prawns were huge and it tasted rather sweet with the chicken floss. The ngoh hiang on the right wasn't crispy but was filled generously with alot of ingredients.

There was also a roasted pork counter where by the chef which slice up cubes of roasted pork. The skin was so crispy it was unbelievably addictive. I went back for seconds. Actually, I have to check if this in on their regular lunch menu because I'm so ready for more of this roasted pork goodness. The meat was so juicy, salty and melted in your mouth!

The fresh sashimi was fresh and it was fresh enough that it melted in your mouth and you didn't have to chew it.

There was also seasoned salmon for your salad greens as well as bak kwa coins. The bak kwa coins were sliced very thick!

Here's my share of the food. I loved the cheese and crackers. The cheese had the right aroma and texture. The char siew was also pretty good and it was picked out from the wanton mee section, but I skipped the noodles and went straight for the meat instead.

The other meats were okay to decent, but the only meat that left a lasting impression was the roasted pork! So definitely give that a try!

The bur bur hitam was my favourite, and the coconut milk though a little bit diluted was still enough to satisfy my cravings.

All in all, a decent Chinese New Year buffet menu and with all the credit card promotions going on. This is probably one of the most value for money hotel buffets around.

a friend bought lunch today. we were to meet at the square @ furama riverfront on 23.2.2016.
the square on level 2 serves buffet. there is 1 for 1 promotion at S$55 for lunch, so quite ok, not too pricey.
we were seated near the window area, very pleasant.
started with the sashimi station. with the current GBS (Group B Streptococcus) scare, there was a sign stating it was “salt water salmon”.
salmon was very good sweet & fresh. i took very few by my usual standard, just 4 slices.
had the cooked prawns (good), tako, skipped the shell fish.
took a pieces of slami & some smoked salmon.
& 2 maki – a reverse roll & a spider maki.
but these were quite good. turkey salad best, asparagus was good, the prawn salad was good (nothing unusual but good), sundried tomatoes, and the vegetables confit tasty too. i didn’t quite like the beetroot, had much better beetroots before.
i had to try the curry chicken noodles. it was nothing like (no comparison with) the ah heng curry chicken noodles of course. i would say basically 2 quite different dishes. still the curry was very tasty as a curry dish.
i was surprised by the main courses too. i almost w/o fail avoid main courses in buffet except for semi-buffet as a single alacarte order. i guess buffet main courses have improved!
i tried nearly every dish.
pork rib was good, tasty. roast prime rib was competent. fish au gratin was good, but the steamed fish was overdone (both were the same cheap sutchi fish. i am thinking of doing this for my community meals so tried both). oxtail was competent, the braised sauce & vegetables were good. my friend especially liked the deep-fried belly pork. it was just ok for me. there was a mid-eastern lamb preparation i think, very nice too.
& the pork collar casserole, surprising quite good. meat looked (& felt when cutting) tough & overdone ut it was actually quite tender.
as said earlier, fish au gratin was the better preparation.
i took the 3 cheese – a brie, a blue & another cheese, some dried apricots, sultanas & walnut.
the peanut paste was unedible & should not be served. need a hong kong chef.
i quite enjoyed this lunch, chat with friend & trying out different food. one of the few times i actually bordered to try out the main courses, usually just took lots of sashimi…lol..
root veg confit, asparagus, amerircan prawn salad, sundried tomatoes, salami, turkey salad

The cards promotion makes it worth the money.

The variety provided was quite alright.

We got Bak Kut Teh, Roast meat, and Roast duck from the serving station. Which I think it's only so so.

The cheese station had four different types to choose from, and they provide MeiJi biscuit to go with it.

The bread station, had quite some variety too. And the salted and unsalted butter gave customers an option to choose. (I did not found any fruit jams though.)

They have Sushi and Sashimi, which was quite nice and fresh. The cold crabs are a bit not fresh, the flesh is a bit flaky when we tried it.

The local selection for the day we visited was alright. I think the chefs did quite a good job.

The desserts are quite nice if you have a sweet tooth. They have local dessert like pulut hitam, sweet potatoes with Ginger soup, and snow fungus to western favourites chocolate fondue, chocolate moose cake, puddings and ice cream.

Service by the staffs are better than expected as they are attentive, especially those working at where we sat.

Overall experience, Above Average. Quite Good.

I'm quite impressed with the wide food variety and the quality of the food here!

Service here was quite good - plates were cleared regularly except 1 or 2 times were a bit long. Water were refilled promptly. The cooked food here were replenished quite fast but the desserts were replenished too slow. Some trays were empty for quite some time... Be prepared that the restaurant will be quite noisy as it is always full house!

Overall this buffet is really value for money!!

Heard of their current 1-for-1 dinner offer ( citibank, stanchart and some other credit cards) so had a family bash there last Sunday. The spread was good! Not too salty as smoked salmon tends to be, with just enough sweetness in the omelet. Perfect! The nonya achar was also quite authentic. Arguably the best dish though, was their laksa yong-tau-fu..very lemak! Good enough to fight Katong laksa!
A nice touch was also the toaster available to warm up the breads. Great! For the main dishes, the oxtail stew was generous in portions but a trifle tough. The penang kway teow was too spicy
for me, but the sambal belachan with fried chicken was good. They offer 6 flavours of ice-cream ( compared to the usual 2-3 at most buffets). Have to say though, their western cakes ( banana chocolate, pie) were better than their nonya kuehs which were too hard. I enjoyed the cheng tng though.. Simple, clear sweet soup to wrap up the meal. Coffee and tea available. With the spread there, sure to over-eat
. But it's definitely a buffet place worth trying out.

1st, The restaurant was too noisy. Noise from staff clearing plates, kitchen,
2nd, it was really disappointed that in a 4 star hotel, we had to queuing to be seated.
Another day. we entered by the other entrance, and no one was there to greet us. we went inside the restaurant and could not find any single empty table to sit. WE stood there, in the middle of the restaurant and no one care. Every staff were busy do clearing, topping up food.

Worst, on the night before chirstmas eve, the restaurant was full-booked again, and we had to sit outside the entrance. so far from the buffet.

And the food wasnt good enough either. Everyday, there not much change of the food on the buffet. WE decided to have a la carte. Then, the young girl who served us forget to check the food, we had to wait 30 minute for a seafood horfun. THen she asked us to understand 'cause they were too busy

THat was enough, WE will never return to this place!

Breakfast here was really disappointing.Firstly, they didn't even specify that the food wasn't halal and secondly, the spread wasn't very good. They had cereals, fruits and yoghurt and breads like croissants and muffins, etc. The laksa they had was average. The only thing that I liked was the cereals(forgot it's name) with milk! They should improve on their spread,in my opinion!
