I was here for a quick breakfast before a meeting. I was there at about 8.15 am and most stalls were still closed. I wanted a light breakfast so black carrot cake seemed to be an ideal choice. This stall was manned solely by a Uncle on that day. I joined the queue of 3 other people and waited for my turn to order. I wanted the $2 portion of black carrot cake with extra chilli added. This stall was manned solely by a Uncle on that day. I joined the queue of 3 other people and waited for my turn to order.
I wanted the $2 portion of black carrot cake with extra chilli added. There are also the $3 and $4 as well as the black or white version for selection.Uncle pan fried a good portion of carrot cake together then added in the dark sweet sauce and preserved radish together with chilli. He served half of the portion to the customer before me and served the other half to me.
The irregular shape carrot cake pieces were fried well to give it the desired flavor. It has got a comforting old-school taste. It tasted just like those type of fried black carrot cake that i used to eat with my dearest Grandpa when i was a kid. The sweet taste of the dark sweet sauce was delightful. It would be perfect if there is more egg added to give it a bit more eggy taste. I could taste bits of preserved radish in it. Its slightly salty taste does enhanced the overall flavor and brought it to the next level. I can easily say that this is my kind of comfort food. Its comforting taste makes me happy.
