I love love love dumplings! Saying that, it also means that I've eaten many variations of dumplings at different places so guess that makes me a credible dumpling-connoiseur? Heh! There are actually many canteens situated in NTU selling dumplings, like Canteen B (South Spine) and Food Connection (North Spine). I've eaten dumplings at both canteens... but I must say that my favourite dumplings are now from Canteen 1! Food Connection's dumplings are *not bad* but more expensive than Canteen B's.

Food Connection's dumplings are *not bad* but more expensive than Canteen B's. Canteen B's dumplings are not worth trying. Enough said... now for the ones here at Canteen 1, I love them the most out of all three canteens!

They are freshly made, which also means you have to wait a little while they churn out the lovely dumplings. I waited for a little less than 10 minutes. There are 10 whole Shanghai dumplings for $3.50 (That's like $0.35 for each!
Cheap, cheap!!).
There are 2 choices, A and B for two type of vegetables. One of them is called the 韭菜 and the other 白菜. I chose the 韭菜 which is what I usually eat.

These dumplings are just small enough for you to eat in one mouthful, yet not too small to make you feel like it's not worth the money. The skin is chewy and thin, the way it should be. Love it because the whole dumpling, the skin & the flling, taste so fresh. Somehow the fact that the stall is manned by PRCs make me feel that the dumplings are more "original".

It is flavourful in itself, so you actually don't need to put vinegar. I like my dumplings with lots of vinegar though.

There's also the classic xiaolongbao that is highly popular (I could see many people having one 'long2' of it on their tables during lunchtime.

How to get there?
For non-native NTU inhabitants, it will be a struggle to navigate your way around. One good point to that is that you'll be very very hungry by the time you find the place, but well... don't do that to yourself!

Take Bus 179 and alight at the bus stop at Hall 6, cross the road towards Hall 1. Do not alight at Hall 1 (first stop inside NTU), contrary to popular belief. You will walk one big round before you reach it, it's far even if you know how to walk.

I like Canteen 1 a lot because the place is air-conditioned and newly furnished!
It's quite worth a walk, there're many notable stalls too!
