I was given promotional flyers for their weekday set lunch, so I decided to give this place a try. Thankfully they put up signboards to direct customers, else it's quite hard to find the place if it's your first time there. Granted, if you are looking for a quiet place, this is quite a good venue for chilling out. The interior is decorated with wood paneling and is rather comfy & classy at the same time. 2 of us opted for the 2-course menu ($24++) , choosing an appetizer and a main course each.-

- Complimentary bread

We were offered 4 small slices of toasted bread (from a French Loaf, I believe) with unsalted butter. Bread was nothing special although it was nicely toasted. The butter was not bad, it went well with the bread.

- Burgundy Salad, Baby Spinach and Sautéed Mushrooms, Poached Egg and Honey Mustard Dressing

I liked the burgundy salad (both of us had this). The serving size is small but well, it's an appetizer. I would have preferred the poached egg to be just slightly less watery, but it's still quite lovely nonetheless. The honey mustard dressing was really good, a fine balance between the honey & good mustard used. The mushrooms were nicely sauteed with just the right amount of flavor to it and the poached baby spinach beneath is tender. Recommended!

- Sautéed Milk Fed Veal and Assorted Mushroom Cream Sauce and Pasta

For the veal pasta, the spaghetti was cooked till al dente in a light-tasting cream sauce with a hint of wine. The assorted mushrooms tasted good but I was a bit disappointed by the veal. I had hoped it will be more tender or juicy but it's like regular slightly tough beef slices. Generally an ok dish.

- Pan-fried Whole Rainbow Trout, Brown Butter and Capers, Mashed Potatoes

Hmmm couldn't place any special taste to the brown butter. Perhaps it was used to pan fry the trout? The trout was fresh but tasted just like a regular pan-fried normal fish, nothing special. In fact, my dining companion who had this found it to be too dry and would have much preferred to have some sauce over the trout. It's my first time tasting capers - they look like really tiny green peas and have a sharp taste to it similar to a pickled green olive. Again, another ok dish.

Generally, with the exception of the burgundy salad appetizer, the rest of the dishes were just ok-tasting, nothing fantastic. You can still give the place a try for the ambience and also the good service provided by the wait staff. Supposedly the lunch set is priced at a affordable rate, but I still think it's a bit pricey - maybe the standard I set was too high for this price range, I guess.
