MEAT MEAT & MORE MEAT!
食客
2013-07-30
The recent opening of their relocated novena branch has met with a small change in price, the only price increase was for adult's lunch which increased by $2, but it is still very affordable. Take a look at their updated price list: Lunch: $14++ (Adult) , $9++ (Child) Dinner: $22++ (Adult) , $18++ (Child) For Friday Dinner + : $22++ (Adult) , $18++ (Child)Operating Hours:Weekday lunch: 11:30AM - 2:30PM (2:00PM LAST ORDER)Weekday dinner: 5:00PM - 11:00PM (10:30PM LAST ORDER)Weekend : 11:30AM - 11:00PM (NO INTERVALS IN BETWEEN)As usual, we took a lot of meat as it is the most worth it! I love the juicy meat which has its very own unique taste. You can also take as much as you want as its a buffet style. I love the BBQ the meat by myself as I can control its consistency and I can eat it fresh out of the "stove"! I also enjoy the attentive service that the staff here provides. Once they see an aluminum foil which is close to being charred and toxic, then swiftly change it. I also like how they are able to maneuver the meat and slide it down quickly onto the new aluminum foil. There's also a very sweet rice drink which is very very addictive! I still crave for the taste everyday since my last visit. Do bring a change of clothes if you're going somewhere else as this place really stinks up your clothes, unless you want to smell like a walking BBQ stove! Do also queue earlier than your estimated time of eating as the queue tends to get really long during the lunch hours due to its very cheap and competitive prices for adults!…Read More

Scaly
Potluck
2013-07-30
This is one of the restaurant opened under the Soup Restaurant group. The 3 "sister" restaurants are actually situated next to each other in IMM. You get the most expensive one (Soup Restaurant), the average cost one (Pot Luck) and then Café O. You can actually have your 3 meals there too! For breakfast, try the Cafe O for roti prata, etc. for lunch you can frequent the pot luck store which serves a variety of different dishes and then have dinner at Soup Restaurant! Pretty cool concept huh! So let's start with the review for potluck! this new establishment at imm seems to be a hot favourite as you can see long lines being formed during the lunch/dinner hours. I believe what attracts most is that they have free flow drinks ($2.80) and free flow rice ($1.50). However, on hindsight, unless you're a really big eater, this may be seen as more expensive than cheap as they discourage sharing of food so if you calculate, you actually have to poslish off 3 bowls of rice before the price is about $0.50 per bowl of rice. Before ordering, you may want to consider this economical point! We ordered this curry fish head for $17.90 as it seems to be the best-selling and it's a chef recommendation. They even framed it up and put it as perhaps a permanent promotion item (U.P $23). I smell a marketing gimmick! (which I gladly fell into as the picture looks really enticing!)This dish came in a hot pot (Extremely hot pot! Please be careful when handling!) and was exactly like the picture being advertised. The aromatic curry hits your nose and you came feel your mouth watering. I wasted no time in piling the curry onto my rice and quickly dug in. I think the fish should've went through some QC as it was still really scaly, making it a hassle to eat as you have to slowly remove the scales as you eat. If without the scales, this is definitely a very fantastic dish as the curry was thick enough and the fish was really fresh!Looking around, I saw many other dishes that were being served out and most if not all, you could see the steam rising from each hot pot! This is definitely one place I'm going back to!…Read More

Hot Dog Bun, Hot Dog bun!
Baker Talent
2013-07-30
Everytime I walk pass Baker Talent, I never fail to see a long queue forming. Decided to check out what's the hype about this bread stall that has a queue even at a secluded corner. The prices of most of the bread range from $0.60 to around $1.50, relatively cheap compared to established brands such as BreadTalk.I bought the hot dog bread as it just came out from the oven about 1-2 turns before me! I was so excited to finally try this bread and it was indeed astounding! For a simple bread that taste so good and is cheap, it is little wonder why there's a queue. The bread is very soft and it doesn't become very dry and clumpy when you're chewing it. I gobbled it down without seconds and craved for more! I think there was a really really cheap one which they were promoting, called the butter bomb or something. I shall try that the next time!…Read More

After the delicious meal I had a previous time, we came back to try this again! This time, the service was very bad. We called the waitress to come and clear the tables at least 3 times and they didn't even come. We had to bring it to them before they came as they weren't other empty tables to place the empty bowls. We ordered the Ipoh Homemade Ginger Duck Horfun (Dry) - $7.50 or ($8.30 for set meal)This duck was really hard! It was so difficult to pull the meat apart and the sauce was really really salty! I don't know what happened to this place but the standard of the food was atrocious! I read other reviews which said that this dish was not bad.. Maybe it's just this time round that they didn't cook properly or somethingWe also bought the Ipoh Golden Platter to share ($8 for large and $5 for regular). We got the large sized one. There is the fried crispy cracker, fish balls, ipoh fried turnip and tofu. The most abundance one was the crispy cracker. It was quite crispy but it was very salty too! The fish balls were quite bad, it was difficult to bite through. You can dislodge the skin from the fishball itself which shows that it isn't really good. The tofu was hard at the side, not good. Lastly, the fried turnip. It turns out to be really hard to like the tofu, hard at the sides! I didn't enjoy it at all. It also tasted very sweet, taste more like sweet potatoes than fried turnip. I didn't enjoy my trip this round. Service was bad, and food wasn't good either. …Read More

This is the ala carte Authentic Shredded Chicken Horfun (soup). They have a dry version of this noodle too. They also have either the ala-cartle for $5.20 or set meal - $6 (which includes either coffee or tea). And it's the best-seller (it's on the very first page of the menu!)I'm not sure if it's really Authentic Ipoh food but this is really quite good! the soup taste nice and not oily. The chicken skin could be taken off easily and the hor fun is really smooth and soft. The prawn not however not crunchy but that's only a personal preference. Also, i think the egg is supposed to add to the taste but I couldn't really taste it! Love to have more vegetables too! This dish is definitely really good and I would love to try the other dishes which hopefully is from ipoh! …Read More

Went to dine with my friend at this eatery as she wanted to try this ramen place after trying the other ramen places in this area. Both of us ordered the Ladies' Set meal ($10.20++) which comes with a smaller bowl of ramen, 1 set dish and a drink (you can refer to their facebook page for the full menu)As a fan of sesame seed, I anticipated this dish to be really good as sesame seed with anything always tastes nice! The broth of the soup is boil with pork bones, simmered over a few hours and you can distinctively taste the pork taste in the soup. There were some garnishes which tastes like onion and I didn't really like it. The noodles were quite springy and I feel that the portion size was just right for a small eat like me! I do like that like sprinkle a lot of black sesame seeds into the bowl but I couldn't really taste it. Other than bamboo shoots and bean-sprouts, there was also 1 slab of pork (San Chen Rou) in the middle of it. I didn't really like eating that so I gave it to my friend who says that it's mediocre. My friend claims that the other restaurants serve better ramen but I like the ambience of this place. A cozy eatery with the waiters being Japanese and speaking with a Japanese accent. It felt like I crawled into a mini Japan. P.S. The reddish oragney lights in the restaurant made my photo turn out as so! The soup is NOT spicy at all. …Read More

On a mission to try all the creative sushi available before the end of the month! Aquamarine: $4.20This includes the salmon belly wrapped with egg tamago, asparagus and shrimp roe. The sushi tastes quite normal, nothing very creative about it. It is a bit like the salmon handroll except this one has asparagus in it. You can skip this if you don't have extra stomach space. Jewel Box: $4.20There's premium BBQ eel, cheese, potato flakes and some fish roe with sesame seeds on top. I like the potato flakes on this sushi! It's really interesting, but I do think that they have a similar sushi called Golden Catch (dory fish instead of BBQ eel)(They gave us different plates as they said they ran out of the normal polka dot plates they had to give, but the presentation is still there so no worries!)Once this promotion ends, I believe that I would've found alternatives for these 2 sushis if i ever need to try them again. Then again, I do hope that they put this on the usual menu so that we are able to eat them as and when we like to!P.S. Doing this review made me realize how costly these sushis are! If i top up about $5-6 more, I could get a full set meal! Perhaps these sushi should be eaten once in awhile only. …Read More

Pork and Sushi!
Shin Kushiya

The queue here at vivocity is so much longer than the one at JEM! If you waited really long at JEM, be prepared to queue an even longer time here! After my successful dine at JEM the other time, my friend recommended me to try the branch at vivocity! SO here I go!I think we were supposed to order the yakitori sticks but we decided against it as we felt that it's a little more pricey that we hope it would be. One stick of pork meat could cost about $2.40, I think it's better if I'm eating the Don(s). We ordered the Buta Don ($14.80) - Grilled Pork Rice BowlI wasn't really a fan of Pork in the first place but I really like the sauce for this! I think this is quite worth it as the meat is soft and the serving is quite generous! I also like to eat the pickle with the pork, quite a nice combi! We also ordered the California Temaki (hand roll)($3.00) The price is a tad higher than other Japanese place that I've eaten at. A great disappointment as the seaweed is already soggy when they served it! ): But I like that the filling inside goes all the way down and isn't like what you see at the top is what you get. If you like pork, I think you will love the Buta Don, but skip the california temaki as I don't think it's worth it. Also, make a reservation so that you don't have to wait too long!…Read More

VEGE LOVE NOM NOM NOM! This is the Sansei Soba ($12.80), translated to Buckwheat Noodles with Mountain Vegetables. I'm not too sure what the mountain vegetables' names are but I could identify the spinach and spring onions! There was another vegetable, it was a little.. sour? I didn't return know what's that. But if you drink the soup and eat the vege together, it tastes pretty good! I also love the pretty Japanese fishcake, might be some "beautiful is good" effect but i LOve the fishcake! The buckwheat noodle is really soft and can be bitten off very easily. If you love vegetables, I think you'll definitely like this dish!…Read More

Nutella and original flavour. I felt that the yogurt tasted more like ice cream. The nutella flavour is a bit too sweet for me and it tastes more like chocolate to me than nutella (Hazelnut chocolate). The original yogurt doesn't taste that good to me either. If i must choose between other brands of yogurt, I would go for those as I don't really like the concept of this weigh and pay kind of system, I won't know if they're cheating me or not. Plus, the girls manning the store are not friendly at all. I asked for the watsons discount but I didn't have my card with me and she said I can't be entitled to it. Then later, she told me that she didn't have 5 cents change and rounded off my amount... That's quite unfair to me. Am I supposed to get 1 more pump of yogurt like that? The girls should go for some training and I think apart from the cute branding, there's nothing too good about this yogurt. …Read More

SO GOOD!
2D1N Soju Bang Korean Restaurant
2013-07-30
My love for Korean Food will never die, especially after tasting their BBQ after a trip to ssikkek (2D1N's sister branch). This restaurant is split up into 2 portions, one ala-carte and BBQ so that those who are eating ala-carte won't get the BBQ smell on themselves. The seating arrangement is a little funny here, you have to pen down the no. of guests by yourself and they will call you up when it's your turn. It's also a little bit inflexible as one table can sit 2-6 people and all of us have to share 1 pot. A little squeezy if you ask me. I took some glass noodle (prefer to one at ssikkek), some salad and dukbokki. I like the dukbokki for its taste but it gets a little tiring to chew and bland after awhile. Have some greens to be healthy! And of course, laden the beef on there! There is a variety of meat to choose from pork, lamb and beef. Surprisingly, there's no chicken! Nothing interesting about chicken to be cooked? HAH! I love the juicy beef, especially the bulgogi. Really awesome! Since it's a buffet style type of place, you can keep taking the food but please note that they do charge for wastage! Not sure if it's really enforced though as I saw someone leaving quite a substantial amount of food before at Ssikkek but didn't have to pay for it. Do head down to try this place if you're in the vicinity and craving for Korean food!…Read More

I think Bao Today should stick to selling only Buns in their eatery and not try to diversify themselves. I ordered the Beef Brisket Noodle: $6.80 and Deep Fried Golden Dumpling (6 pcs - $4.50) This tasted normal. The beef brisket was not very soft and a little hard to chew. My mom ate it and it took forever for her to finish chewing one small piece. The soup is a little too salty for my liking. However, I must say that the noodle is springy which is the saving feature of this dish. This fried dumpling is quite bad. The crispy part isn't crispy at all. It's like they left the dumpling there for awhile and was getting soggy. I had to remove the fried part and only eat the ate the fillings inside. At about $0.80 per piece, I don't think it's worth it. As I've eaten their Baos before, which tastes phenomenon. I am utterly disappointed at their normal dishes and I've said, they should stick to selling the buns instead. …Read More

BeeHoon galore!
莆田
2013-07-30
Putien always manages to serve delicious food at an affordable price with exceptional service! Order the XingHua Fried BeeHoon after the recommendation of one of the waiters. This cost $7.90 and as you can see, it has an abundant of seafood, from prawns to clams to squids. Most restaurants only add in prawns and squids in their seafood dishes but not putien! It distinguishes itself for being able to be creative and special by adding more than the normal things into their dishes. The BeeHoon is not very oily and was also very springy. SeaFood is fresh and I love that the prawn is those crunchy type that I like! This dish is suitable for all meals, from breakfast to dinner, it'll leave you craving for more!…Read More

This is the Cranberry Cheese Bread ($0.80), it was a love at first bite!! As I sink my teeth into this fluffy and chubby bread, i could taste the cheese and cranberries rushing in! The bread was so soft, it's like the bread soft toy but it taste really really good! This explains the long queue that always form infront of the stall as the breads are not only cheap, it's really really awesome too! Furthermore, the bread is always hot out of the oven and you can taste the freshness of it!…Read More

Was running some errands around this place and I decided to dine at this hawker centre. I heard a lot of people reviewing about this ABC food centre and I realized I've never been here before! I must have missed out a lot of these yummy food here!I love hawker centre food as it feels really homely and this is definitely one that reminds me of my grandma's cooking. The noodles were not clumpy and I like that it was soft and chewy. From $3 onwards (I think till $6/7) you can get this plate of yummy hokkien mee serving by a friendly uncle/auntie . The noodle is really fragrant and they are not stingy about giving the squid or the prawns! I also especially love the chili as its very distinct and you can taste the belachan flavour. I only wished that they gave more bean sprouts!Other than that, this dish was absolutely incredible. Thumbs up! …Read More
