Montana Brew Bar @POMO
Montana
2016-03-20
Full review - http://midas400.blogspot.com/2016/03/montana-brew-bar-pomo.htmlFinished my medical appointment early, so dated hubby for lunch in town. We decided to try out the savory waffles from Montana, a specialty coffee house located at POMO, that is also well known for their creative waffles.Their simple menu consists of 3 category of food, Savory Waffles, Sweet Waffles and Pastas. There's also a $11.90+ set lunch option which includes a pasta dish and a drink. On the drinks page, the inhouse specialty, Coconut Cold Brew coffee, was their signature brew. Regular espresso coffee, filtered coffee, a couple of artisan teas and wine are also available. We ordered two savory waffles for main course and one sweet waffle as dessert.Southern Fried Chicken Waffle $14.50+, crispy fried chicken with tangy coleslaw served with corn salsa on the side. The crispy waffles were nicely done and pairs well with the fried chicken. It's a pretty decent dish but the chicken pales in comparison to Arteastiq's Thai style chicken waffle though. The later had a much more appealing dressing for their savory fried chicken waffle.Assam Crab Waffle $18+, spice infused waffle with crab meat and pineapple cucumber salsa served with assam gula melaka mayo on the side. This waffle has too much going on in one single dish, and the soft cakey waffle got soggy soon after soaking up the salsa dressing. Overall, we did not enjoy this dish.Chocolate Banana Waffle $14.50+, served with grilled bananas, granola, hazelnut rocher ice cream and drizzled with salted caramel sauce. This waffle did much better than the savory ones. The crispy chocolate waffles tasted heavenly with the sweet bananas and cool ice cream. Thumbs up.For drinks, we tried their signature Coconut Cold Brew Coffee $6.80+, created by steeping ground coffee in coconut water. Served with a coconut ice sphere, this chilled black coffee was a delight to drink. The subtle hints of coconut water sweetness gave it a refreshing and very unique taste. I like it.Other beverages we had were Hot Chocolate $5.50+ and Spiced Chai Latte $5.50+. They were rather decent. I love my chocolaty hot chocolate with its lovely latte art.It was an interesting adventure exploring the creative waffles at Montana. Some waffle flavors may be too creative for our palates, but we think that they do have a lot of potential. The specialty cold brew coffee does leave a pleasant impression though. We would order the other variants to try next time.…查看更多

Dinner at Hard Rock Cafe @Orchard
Hard Rock Cafe
2016-03-20
Full review - http://midas400.blogspot.com/2016/03/dinner-at-hard-rock-cafe-orchard.htmlMet up for a birthday dinner treat for Dec sista. We picked this place as it has 1 for 1 main course deal on The Entertainer App, and also it has been many years since we visited it. The restaurant still looks the same with that vintage Cadillac hanging atop the entrance. The usual Rock inspired decor theme with all kinds of electric guitars lining the walls, and various music memorabilia from some of the greatest Rock legends. We ordered a main course each and one appetizer dish for sharing. But first, some refreshing mocktail drinks to start the dinner off proper. Mango Berry Cooler $13++ each.Buffalo Wings $17++, served with blue cheese dip and raw carrot and celery sticks. They were nicely done and pretty addictive to much on.For my main course, it's the Hickory BBQ Ribs (full rack) $34++, served with coleslaw and fries. The ribs were delicious, meat was tender and well flavored with smoky hickory sauce.Other mains ordered were Hickory Smoked BBQ Combo $36++ (Ribs, Chicken & Pulled Pork), and Bacon & Cheese Wagyu Burger $32++. Both were well received by the girls.Hard Rock Cafe is still the place to go to for classic American food. Despite being in operations for over 25yrs in SG, food quality and service are still well maintained. It's not a bad choice for friends to hang out over yummy food and drinks, while listening to Rock music.…查看更多

Buffet Lunch at Colony @Ritz Carlton
Colony
2016-03-19
Full review - http://midas400.blogspot.com/2016/03/buffet-lunch-at-colony-ritz-carlton.htmlMet up with sistas for birthday celebration at the newly revamped Colony restaurant at the glitzy Ritz Carlton hotel. The new space had been transformed from its former greenhouse theme into contemporary British-colonial theme. It looks nothing short of fabulous. The new buffet spread is designed around a Seven 'Live' Conservatory Kitchens theme.1. The Ice Bar2. The Grill & Rotisserie3. The Steam Basket4. The Wok5. The Tandoor6. The Fruit Stall7. The PatisserieBefore we start digging in, a walkabout to check out the spread is a must. Let's take a look at what the 'seven kitchens' are about. The Ice BarThe freshest crustaceans on ice, salads, cold cuts and cheeses. It's an absolute feast for the eyes. The Grill & RotisserieA selection of Western and Asian grilled delicacies. HK style roast meats, local Hainanese chicken rice & satay, western roasts carving station and grilled vegetables. The Steam BasketAsian noodles Live station, soups and assorted steamed dim sum delights. Check out their signature Laksa with homemade lobster balls. The WokA myriad of local wok-fried dishes. Seafood, meats, veggies and carbo dishes to make the diner's job of decision making so much harder than it already is.The TandoorIndian style meats, seafood and breads cooked in a traditional tandoor oven. All served in glistening traditional Indian copper ware. The Fruit StallAn assortment of whole fruits and fresh pressed fruit juices. The staffs here will help diners customize their own made-to-order juices. The PatisserieA decadent selection of sweet treats and a Live pancake station. Cakes, kuehs, custards/mousse, chocolates, ice cream and plenty of candies to spoil the diners. My food choices, some are sharing portions for us all. I loved the super fresh seafood, sushi & sashimi, dim sum, HK roasts, noodle soup, nonya kuehs, pancakes and the ice cream. The cooked food from 'The Wok' station was kinda disappointing with over-seasoned salty dishes and also overcooked ones. My other gripe would be some of the overly sweet desserts (cakes & custard/mousse), they looked gorgeous but taste otherwise...Lastly, we have a complimentary cake for the birthday girl. We took a lot of photos with it but eventually failed to finish it, of course. It has been a while since I come across a buffet spread this good, excellent variety, generous use of premium ingredients, well executed and great tasting dishes. Despite some shortcomings with 'The Wok' and a couple of below expectation desserts, we were definitely impressed with the lunch buffet spread. The price was a reasonable $58++ per pax for all the good stuffs mentioned here, quite worthy of an occasional splurge.…查看更多

Waffles with Unique Flavors at The Cold Pantry
The Cold Pantry
2016-03-10
Full review - http://midas400.blogspot.com/2016/03/waffles-with-unique-flavors-at-cold.htmlI've been bugging my sistas to go try the delish looking waffles at The Cold Pantry ever since I saw photos of the waffles with towering charcoal ice cream sitting on a cookie. Finally we decided to meet up just before they start getting busy with CNY preps. The tiny waffle & ice cream eatery is located about 5-6mins on foot from the Farrer Park MRT on NEL.Simple menu with Waffles and Ice cream on one side and Coffee and tea on the other. Nothing fancy, but they do create their own unique flavors of waffles and homemade ice cream. All prices are NETT, no GST and service charge. We ordered their best seller Iced Thai Milk Tea $5.00 per bottle. This drink was really nice with pretty authentic Thai milk tea flavor and yet not overly sweet. Recommended. Our party of 3 ladies and 2 kids ordered 2 specialty waffles for adults to share, and 1 regular flavored one for the kids.Chocolate Root Beer $12.50, chocolate waffles served with Charcoal vanilla ice cream and homemade chocolate Root beer sauce. The waffle tasted heavenly with light crisp on the exterior and airy fluffy soft center. The root beer sauce was really unique and matches perfectly with the waffle and the charcoal ice cream. We were very impressed!Pink Velvet $14.00, rose flavored waffles served with Lychee ice cream and sprinkled with lychee bits & fruit loops. The waffle again surprises with its lovely rose fragrance and heavenly texture. The lychee flavored ice cream was also an excellent pairing to the rose waffle. Thumbs up.Chocolate Indulgence $14.00, waffle served with Chocolate ice cream and Hershey's chocolate sauce, and topped with a variety of chocolaty confectioneries. The ice cream and sauce was very well received too.All the ice cream towers are sitting on a chocolate chip cookie, a brilliant way to support the weight, and also to prevent the crispy and warm waffle from getting soggy and melting away the ice cream prematurely. We really love the waffles and ice cream here and would definitely be back to try more flavors in the future!…查看更多

Golden Mile Thien Kee Steamboat Restaurant 黄金端记餐室
Golden Mile Thien Kee Steamboat Hainanese Chicken Rice Hotpot
2016-03-10
Full review - http://midas400.blogspot.com/2016/03/golden-mile-thien-kee-steamboat.htmlThe evil sistas met up for CNY Louhei and Steamboat dinner. We decided to have it at a traditional Hainanese steamboat and chicken rice restaurant, Thien Kee Steamboat, located at basement of Golden Mile Tower (Tower, not Complex hor).Thien Kee has been around for many years and is one of the rare Hainanese restaurants still run by Hainanese, and serving authentic Hainan delicacies in this millennium. As you can see, they are hugely popular with Singaporeans, almost full house before the clock strikes 7 in the evening (Friday).First things first, lets order something to drink while we decide on our food orders. The usual coffee shop beverages are served here with a choice of homemade lime juice for the undecided. The Lime juice was too sweet for my liking.Dinner kick started with the CNY Louhei platter, served with thinly sliced canned abalone. The yusheng tasted a tad too sweet but passable.Next up, we had the steamboat with chicken broth. The steamboats are sold in different sizes, raw ingredients are fixed, you may omit certain items like beef etc. when placing orders. Some standard ingredients are seafood, pork meat, fishballs, pig liver, cockles, fish maw, sea cucumbers, eggs, with plenty of greens. The chicken soup started off bland but gradually became flavorful when all the ingredient were cooked. We couldn't tell this apart from our usual homemade steamboat though, as none of the ingredients are uniquely Hainanese. While we're enjoying the steamboat, other Hainanese dishes arrived. The must have here is the Chicken rice with steamed chicken (sorry, no roast chicken here but roast pork & char siew are available for top up). While the steamboat didn't leave much impression, this chicken rice is rather good. The rice was super fragrant with nice firm rice grains. The steamed chicken was tender and sufficiently flavored with homemade soy sauce. The Hainanese Pork chop, covered with generous serving of tangy tomato sauce, was a little dry and hard to chew, but saved by the delish sauce with an old school taste. The last dish was a mixed veggie dish, stir fried with some of the steamboat ingredients. It tasted quite bland albeit everything used was fresh.Despite some hits and misses with the food, we still enjoyed our dinner here at Thien Kee. It is a good place for large group gathering with pocket friendly prices. The aircon area is also a plus for folks who dislike hot and sweaty steamboat meals.…查看更多

Dinner at Gyoza-Ya 餃子屋
Gyoza-Ya
2016-02-22
Meeting up with a friend who doesn't have a huge appetite, so I picked this Izakaya style Jap eatery as our casual dinner place. This is the 3rd and newest outlet by the Akashi Group. The restaurant was almost empty at 7pm on a weekday. We browsed the online menu on the ordering tablet and picked 4 kinds of their specialty gyoza dishes for sharing, and a couple of sides and carbo dishes to add variety. To start things off, some refreshing drinks, Kuri Lemonade $4.80++ a nice soda with shredded cucumbers, and Earl Grey Ice Lemon Tea $4.80++ which tasted like regular Ice Tea.Food came pretty quickly from the kitchen after order was sent. The gyoza dishes we had were the original Yaki Pork Gyoza $4.80++, Yaki Mentaiko Gyoza $7.80++, Yaki Ebi Tamago Gyoza $6.80++ and Sui Pork Gyoza $4.80++. Each dish has 5pcs gyoza, great for sharing among friends. The best gyoza dish in my opinion is still the original pan fried pork gyoza. The crispy base was perfectly executed and pork fillings were moist and flavorful...nice! The mentaiko ones were pretty good too coz I'm a fan of anything topped with mentaiko. The boiled pork gyoza and shrimp gyoza were more light in flavors but still quite decent in terms of taste. We also tried the popular Jya Jya Men $6.50++, a handmade noodle dish that can be eaten two ways. It was first served dry with minced pork and a special black miso sauce with shredded veggies. We were advised to add some white vinegar and chilli oil and mixed well before consumption. The dry version tasted good, noodles were al dente and sauce was delicious. Then we saved a small portion for part 2 (as per instructions). Requested the waiting staffs for an egg and boiling noodle water to make it into a soupy dish. The soup version didn't make an impression though, but it was definitely an interesting dish to try.Our second carbo dish, Ninniku Yaki Meshi (Garlic Fried Rice) $5.80++, unexpectedly blew us away with its fragrant wok hei and good chewy bite. Love this dish! Some sides we had were Aburi Burokkori $4.80++, torched broccoli with interesting crisp and smokey aroma, Morokyu $3.80++ crunchy cucumbers with savory miso paste, and Asari Sakamushi $6.80++ steam fresh clams in sake broth. All were rather decent.Overall, we really enjoyed our dinner at Gyoza-ya. Food quality was very good and prices are pocket friendly. Service was prompt and friendly. I would gladly return again to try other dishes.Full review - http://midas400.blogspot.sg/2016/02/dinner-at-gyoza-ya-paragon.html…查看更多

HK Honeymoon Dessert 滿記甜品
满记甜品
2016-02-22
Full review - http://midas400.blogspot.sg/2016/02/hk-honeymoon-dessert.htmlAfter a satisfying dinner at Gyoza-ya, my friend suggested to have dessert at HK Honeymoon Dessert, a popular chain from HK. The smallish eatery wasn't busy yet at around 8pm on a weekday. The dessert selection here was pretty extensive, many of the mango and fruits items are similar to 許留山, it took me quite a while to narrow down what I wanna eat.I finally picked a chilled dessert, Mango with Black glutinous rice and Vanilla snow ice. It was really good, mango slices were sweet and the sticky rice was chewy and flavorful. Recommended. My friend had the Signature Mango Sago Pomelo dessert which tasted great as well.Sorry, I didn't take note of the prices coz my friend picked up the tab. But majority of the items are priced below $10, so it shouldn't break the bank for most people. If you can't go to HK, it is the best you can get to authentic Cantonese desserts.…查看更多

In Love with Kimbap from Seoul Roll @Raffles City
Seoulroll
2016-01-13
Full review - http://midas400.blogspot.sg/2016/01/in-love-with-kimbap-from-seoul-roll.htmlAs the waves of Korean F&B concepts continue hitting our shores, small takeaways shops such as Seoul Roll that specializes solely in Kimbap (seaweed rice rolls) has started appearing at populous shopping malls. I've always liked eating Kimbap and will order some whenever I was at a Korean eatery. The shop, located at basement of Raffles City, has 13 varieties of seaweed rice rolls available. The kimbap rolls are freshly wrapped upon customer's order, each costs $4.50 - $5.00. Kimchi and Korean teas are also sold here.I love eating these so much that I visited it thrice within a month and bought 8 different flavors home to try. All of them were delicious, some I liked more than the others. I've arranged my photos in order of my personal fave.Crispy Shrimp $5.00 - Carrot, Lettuce, Cucumber, Eggs, Budok root & Kochujang AioliSpicy Cuttlefish $4.50 - Lettuce, Cucumber, Carrot, Eggs & Budok rootSeoul Roll $5.00 - Carrot, Radish pickle, Budok root, Cucumber, Eggs, Luncheon meat & KimchiMackerel $5.00 - Carrot, Radish pickle, Lettuce, Cucumber, Eggs, Budok root, Pickled red onion & Deonjang AioliSpicy Pork $5.00 - Carrot, Radish pickle, Lettuce, Cucumber, Eggs & Budok rootCrab Salad $4.50 - Carrot, Radish pickle, Lettuce, Cucumber, Eggs & Budok rootCrispy Pork $5.00 - Carrot, Radish pickle, Lettuce, Cucumber, Budok root, Eggs, Tonkatsu, Red Cabbage & Soy AioliChicken Bulgogi $5.00 - Carrot, Radish pickle, Lettuce, Cucumber, Budok root & EggsAs you can see, they are very generous with the fillings. Over the Top Milkshakes at Benjamin Browns
Benjamin Browns Bistro & Bakery
2016-01-04
Full review - http://midas400.blogspot.sg/2015/12/over-top-milkshakes-at-benjamin-browns.htmlHave been wanting to try the pretty looking OTT milkshakes from Benjamin Browns since it's sudden surge in popularity on social media. As we're not prepared to brave the long queues, we waited for the initial hype to fizzle out before making a trip down. The smallish restaurant is tucked away at a corner of the Forum Shopping mall.It was not very crowded when we arrived at about 7pm, but it did get busy from 7.30pm onwards. Do try to make reservations if you have a big group as there are limited seating available inside.Complimentary ice water was served to every table, check out the tiny red star on the glass. We quickly browse the menu and ordered two of their popular OTT milkshakes to share, and also main courses for each of us.We thought the shakes would take a while to construct but they came rather fast, even before our appetizer was served. Presenting...Nutella Banana shake and Old School Vanilla shake, $16++ each, standing tall with overflowing amount of assorted confectioneries as toppings. These photogenic shakes took us quite some time to finally complete photo taking. Fortunately, the toppings stayed put till the very end phew! Both of these OTT milkshakes tasted fine for me, sweet but pleasantly flavorful. I like picking the toppings out to munch on. Great dish for the desserts lovers.Main courses and appetizer were served while we're busy de-constructing the OTT shakes. We had Pork chops with mash potatoes $25++ and Sizzling beef chunks $25++, and a Truffle fries $15++ for sharing. My Pork chop was delish, meat was tender and well marinated, the sweet potato mash was sweet and creamy too. The Beef chunks were a hit with my friend who loved her beef to be juicy and slightly undercooked. I didn't touch the Truffle fries as it was covered with shredded parmesan cheese, but my friends thought it was pretty decent.Although the fanciful milkshakes are a little overpriced, Benjamin Browns is actually a good place to enjoy affordable and decent food. We redeemed 1 for 1 vouchers from The Entertainer App for the mains, and paid below $40 per head for a rather satisfying meal.…查看更多

Afternoon Tea at Axis Bar & Lounge
Axis Bar and Lounge
2016-01-04
Full review - http://midas400.blogspot.com/2015/12/afternoon-tea-at-axis-bar-lounge.htmlWe're here upon request from our girlfriend who wanna have afternoon tea for her birthday celebration. After some researching, we settled for the SG50 Afternoon Tea at Axis bar & lounge, Mandarin Oriental hotel.Located at level 4, overlooking modern SG cityscape, this place is a sanctuary of peace and quiet on a lazy weekday afternoon. Great for lounging and catching up with friends over a cuppa.TWG TeasLive MusicSG HazeThey served a 5 course Afternoon Tea set, $42++, which included two choices of tea or coffee. The menu changes every month, and for SG golden jubilee, they are serving local themed tea sets to celebrate the occasion. We had an 'Indian' theme menu for the month of September. My Emperor's white garden teaFirst course was a tea jelly drink, Masala chai & cinnamon jelly. Yep, the Indian flavor was obvious, the taste was acceptable for me though, albeit a little exotic.Next, we had a variety of small bites served on plates. Majority of these were seasoned with Indian spices. I liked the Spicy prawn and the Chicken tikka stuffed mini pita. The others were rather ordinary. The next course was two kinds of flaky puffs, one contained curried Potato filling, and the other had a spiced Fish meat filling. The Potato puff was fine but the Fishy puff was too 'Indian' taste for my liking. I had to drown the overpowering smell in my mouth with lotsa tea! After having plenty of savories, the sweets were served. First up, some Cookies & cream scones and Pineapple scones, served with clotted cream, lemon curd and jam. I didn't eat these as they smelled extremely buttery but my girlfriends liked them though. Then, more sweets came sitting on a 3-tier tea stand. There were 6 variety of cakes and pastries on the stand. Many of them were overly sweet. The only stand-out was the Raspberry tart, refreshingly sweet and tangy, which we all liked.Lastly, we ordered our second drink to go with the Complimentary birthday cake for our girlfriend. I had Mocha while the rest had ice chocolate drink. The chocolate cake was , again, very sweet...we're getting serious saccharine coma!Dining experience at the Axis bar was generally decent. Food was above average, with a little hits and misses here and there. Service and ambiance was great. I would recommend some homework be done to find out the menu for the month before heading down. The Indian theme menu we had was a tad too exotic for us, we couldn't truly appreciate it. Do check for credit cards promo as well.…查看更多

Dinner at Arteastiq @Plaza Singapura
Arteastiq DePatio
2016-01-04
Full review - http://midas400.blogspot.com/2015/12/dinner-at-arteastiq-plaza-singapura.htmlI've been to two dining concept stores under Arteastiq but have not actually dine in Arteastiq before. Since a new outlet has opened at PS, I went to check out the new store and their new menu.Nice and brightly colored lounge-style decor, with a row of hi-back couches overlooking parts of bustling Orchard road. The floor to ceiling glass windows lets in natural rays from the sun during the day, and dazzling city lights during the night. As I'm alone, I ordered myself a dessert tea set and a main course from their new 'Ladies Affairs' menu. The beautiful dessert tea set was served first, on their trademark wooden tea tray. My Monet Tea $12++ was a blend of French Rose tea served with a scoop of Champagne Vanilla Gelato and biscotti biscuits. The tea was absolutely delicious. The Main course, Louisiana Love Chicken & Waffles $22++, was rather special. It was waffles made with whole wheat flour, served with crispy chunks of buttermilk pan-fried chicken meat tossed in Thai mayo dressing and greens. This savory waffle dish was excellently done, waffles were good, chicken was tender and the sauce was yummy. I loved it!I enjoyed my dinner here at Arteastiq. Food and beverage were of high quality, and service was decent too. Prices were a bit steep though for the fancy dessert teas. I would come back to try other items on the menu but maybe not ordering the expensive tea every time.…查看更多

New Outlet! Tsukada Nojo Bijin Nabe at Liang Court
塚田農場美人鍋
2016-01-03
Full review - http://midas400.blogspot.com/2015/11/new-outlet-tsukada-nojo-bijin-nabe-at.htmlI got really excited after I saw the news of the new Liang Court branch opening in Oct on their official FB page. We gather the usual Bijin Nabe 美人鍋 gang, and went on a quiet Tue. We were happy to find an empty entrance with one or two early birds still waiting for their gangs outside.Liang CourtThe empty week old restaurantOnce our gang has reported full strength onsite, we were quickly ushered in to an empty table. The restaurant was 80% unoccupied at 7pm (20 Oct 2015). We placed order almost immediately as we already knew what to eat (we are regulars). Here are the usual stuffs we would eat every 3-4 months at Tsukada Nojo.TamagoyakiYuzu mayo NikumakiChicken NanbanThe Bijin Nabe (Collagen Hotpot) Set is still $25++ per pax, comes with a choice of noodles and one free soup refill. The other ala carte side dishes we ordered are available at all outlets too. At the end of the satisfying meal, we were served the complimentary jelly (flavor varies daily) with cute drawings.Apple Jelly for the dayThe restaurant being extremely new, is a little understaffed even though they are not running a full house then. They've forgotten to serve us the sauces, and missed out the seaweed they're supposed to introduce halfway through the meal. Food was great though. We hope that they will beef up the service when business starts to pick up when more people gets to know of the existence of this outlet.…查看更多

Full review - http://midas400.blogspot.com/2015/12/birthday-lunch-at-halia-raffles-hotel.htmlHalia, a well known fine dining establishment in the F&B scene, with numerous accolades in it's name, was the venue of choice for our Nov sistas birthday celebration. I've heard only good words for this restaurant, so it's high time we give this place a try.The Raffles Hotel's branch has the same garden theme as its big sister at the Botanic gardens, with added colonial vibes. Planted foliage matched with colonial style black and white theme decor, and tall classic French windows giving the interior natural lighting during the day. Check out the centerpiece, a carved wooden table made from a 150yrs old tree.Interesting table setting with cutlery housed in an old school tin container and ice water served in a wine/beer bottle. The menu here showcased modern European dishes with Asian influences. We ordered a main course each and two appetizers for sharing. For drinks, I had the Ginger Jive $12++, a concoction of fresh ginger, fruits and wild honey. I love its refreshing fruity taste with subtle hints of ginger kick. Some of my friends had their signature Halia Infusion $10++, a ginger drink served with wild honey (hot/cold). The ginger taste was more prominent for this beverage as compared to my mocktail.Appetizers were served shortly after we placed orders. Crispy salt & chilli squid $15++ served with piquant mayo and ginger & spring onion lime dip, and Potato fries $8++ served with piquant mayo and truffle aioli dip. Both were delish and addictive to munch on.The main courses did not take long to be served but alas, they keyed in the wrong order for two of our dishes. The apologetic staff explained the error to us, and quickly served up another set of appetizers (on the house) for us to kill time (another 15mins wait) while they prepare the dishes. Good service recovery from the restaurant! My Halibut en Papillote $44++, baked fish fillet wrapped in parchment paper with mirin broth and veggies, served with sushi rice and wakame. This was a fabulous dish, fish was succulent and well infused with flavors. The rice topped with seaweed and cucumbers has a nice contrast of textures too. Thumbs up.My friend's Slow Cooked Canadian Pork Loin $33++, was amazingly tender despite its 2" thickness. We suspect it has been sous vide for long hours before pan frying to achieve the nice browning on its exterior. Another excellent dish.Steak & Eggs $30++, with extra Bacon top up at $4++, served with grilled tomatoes, poached eggs & spinach on toast, and buttery Béarnaise sauce. The steak's doneness was just right, retaining its moist and juicy texture, wonderfully executed. To end the enjoyable lunch on a sweet note, complimentary dessert was served. Crème Brûlée with Rum & Raisins ice cream, and a Happy Birthday message. This simple looking dish tasted much better than its looks, we were not disappointed.Halia definitely lived up to its reputation as one of the best restaurants in town. Magnificent food, incredible service, coupled with lovely ambiance, a great choice for that special occasion you are planning to celebrate. Prices could be a little on the steep side but it is well worth the money spent. We utilized two The Entertainer App 1 for 1 Mains vouchers and waived about $60++ off the bill, a good deal indeed.Halia also has an Al fresco bar just outside the restaurant.…查看更多

Shin Minori Japanese Restaurant
新稔
2016-01-03
Full review - http://midas400.blogspot.com/2015/12/food-tasting-shin-minori-japanese.htmlTagged along Pauline to another food tasting. This time, we're at UE Square shopping Mall to try out the Ala Carte Dinner Buffet at Shin Minori Japanese Restaurant.Located at level 3 of the shopping mall, Shin Minori (meaning New Harvest) is adorned with Zen inspired dark wood furnishings with clean lines and cozy warm lighting. This casual Japanese diner offers wallet friendly All-you-can-eat Lunch and Dinner Ala Carte buffets. The buffet menu is definitely one of the most extensive ones I've seen, with more than 160 items to choose from! Fortunately, the restaurant has implemented a handy tablet ordering system where customers can browse the categorized food sections with ease, and place order for dishes online. For the Ala Carte buffet menu, drinks and beverages are not included in the buffet prices, but complimentary ice water is served, and replenished, at every table. We started with some chilled juices while we ponder over what to order from that huge selection of food.Apple juice & Lime juice $4.50++ ea.The food arrived pretty quickly after order submission via the tablet. Most items are served in single portions (some in pairs), serving sizes are smallish which is good as we can order more variety to try.Rice, noodle, chawanmushi & soupWakameGarlic fried riceMentai roe pastaSashimi moriwase platterDragonfly maki rollsRainbow maki rollsBacon wrapped asparagusGrill quail eggs & chicken skinGrill chicken meatballsGrill salmonEbi tempuraEggplant with yuzu miso dressingCucumber with soy bean pasteOverall, I enjoyed the Sashimi and sushi roll items the most. The raw seafood were extremely fresh, and the colorful Maki rolls actually tasted as good as they looked. Some grilled items were impressive too, the chicken meatballs and grill salmon were really good. The rest of the items were pretty standard in terms of taste. The restaurant owner offered some of their in-house specialty dishes for us to try. The grilled yellow tail collar was excellent. This dish is not found in the menu and will be served complimentary to their special guests and regulars, based on availability. The other two dishes can be found in the Ala Carte menu.Grilled yellow tail collarDeep fried soft shell crabsBaked scallopsNo dinner is complete without desserts, so we each ordered a scoop of Japanese flavor ice cream and sorbet. These are priced at $5.90++ per scoop, or $8.90++ for double scoop.Mixed berries, Matcha azuki ice cream & Yuzu sorbetDinner at Shin Minori was a pleasant experience, the buffet spread is extremely impressive, with a reasonable price tag to boot. Definitely a great spot for big groups of friends or family gatherings, where everyone can find something they like to eat here. I would suggest to go for their fresh seafood items which are more worthy of the bucks you're paying.Buffet PricesLunch (MON to SUN)Adult S$35++Child S$25++Dinner (MON to SUN, EVE OF PH & PH) *Adult S$39++Child S$29++*Except Christmas Eve, New Year Eve, CNY Eve & Special Occasions…查看更多

2015-08-10
Full review - http://midas400.blogspot.sg/2015/08/local-lobsterfest-buffet-at-lime.htmlThe local F&B dining scene has been in a festive mood as the nation's Golden Jubilee celebration draws near. For SG50, Lime restaurant's culinary team has put together an irresistible menu of all-you-can-eat Maine lobster buffet dinner, a collection of lobster dishes with local and international influences. These will be served on top of the regular international buffet spread, coupled with free flow Tiger beer, juices, local drinks and specialty coffee/tea.The Lobsterfest buffet dinner happens only on Wednesdays, it was so popular that we need to make reservation more than a month in advance.Lime, is an uber chic modern restaurant with high ceilings and full length glass windows, dressed with eye catching contemporary decor and stylish furnishings.Semi private roomThe dinner buffet was lined up along a stretch of open kitchen, with chefs hard at work to churn out freshly prepared dishes, a la minute. Let's check out the impressive spread before tucking in.Sushi & sashimiFresh seafoodOysters!Maine lobstersPrawns & scallopsLobster pasta live stationLobster & seafood paellaLobster laksa live stationBlack pepper lobsterChili LobsterLobster, Kam Heong style Cooked food stationDrinks & juicesMatcha fountainDesserts stationIce cream stationNonya dessert stationAfter feasting our eyes with that gigantic buffet spread, we had to quickly make a move to grab the lobsters dishes before they ran out...remembering that the restaurant was fully booked on all Wednesdays for the entire month! As dinner progresses, long queues always build up at the lobster stations whenever new replenishment was served, and they were wiped out real quick!
