Arnold's Fried Chicken is a home grown, Singaporean legacy brand that specialises in 1 thing, and 1 thing only; excellent fried chicken. For over 30 years, this halal certified fast food joint has been pulling in crowds day after day, getting even more popular each year. Queues at Arnold's Fried Chicken during peak period meal times can still take up to 1 hour! I first dined at Arnold's Fried Chicken way back in 2007, but have only recently realised that I never got around to blogging about it!

Ambience at Arnold's Fried Chicken still remains more or less the same after all this time. Functional, wide tables laid out neatly within the small, cramped interior, whose walls are a garish mix of white against primary colours. It's usually noisy here, and there is also usually some minor uncleanliness similar to other fast food franchises, with tiny bits of food on the tables or floors.

Service at Arnold's Fried Chicken resembles other fast food franchises as well, it's all self-service. Ordering and payment is done outside the shop, and then you take your place in the queue. Once you get a table, a buzzer will let you know when you can collect your order. And while you're encouraged to clear your own table, staff do assist in this regard. Possibly the only interaction you'll have with staff is when placing, or collecting, your order.

Food at Arnold's Fried Chicken is focused, with the only main dish on the menu being fried chicken. The fried chicken is fantastic, with a thin, crisp, savoury skin, and juicy, tender chicken meat, served piping hot. Arnold's Fried Chicken uses fresh chickens, never frozen, which is evident in the taste. They also offer a range of side dishes and drinks. Portions are nicely sized, and prices are similar, or slightly lower, than other fast food places, budget about SGD $9 per person for a meal here.

A standard 2 Piece Meal (SGD $6.60) is served with coleslaw, fries, and 2 pieces of fried chicken. The coleslaw here differs from elsewhere because it's lighter on sauce, thus, you actually get more of the freshness and crunch of the diced vegetables. The thick cut fries have solid potato flavour, and aren't salty. The fried chicken is the star here, no matter which part you get, the meat is always juicy, tender, and piping hot. The skin is thin but crisp, pulling off easily, though the chicken fat is still present. Extremely satisfiying!

Tucked in the corner of the second level of City Plaza is Arnold's Fried Chicken. It is possibly one of the most crowded spot in the entire building, especially during dinner time. Arnold's Fried Chicken is the Singapore version of KFC, only way better. The fried chicken is prepared immediately after you place your order. The fried chicken is prepared immediately after you place your order. This ensures that you will not be left with stale, cold and tough chicken. The marinate is average, I did not find it especially tasty. I love how even the breast meat is juicy and tender.

Arnold's serves the thicker type of straight cut fries which have the perfect crispy exterior that makes them so addictive.

It is nice that they still serve those fried buns with each chicken set. They are a rare treat nowadays with lesser Western stalls serving them. Anyway, not many of those stalls make them like Arnold's. Arnold's fried buns are exactly like fried mantous, only that the bun is softer and fluffier.

We ordered 2 sets of  the 2 person combo meal ($23.70) and it was more than enough for 5. Becareful not to over order.

They have the best fried chicken around.I really love their nice blend of special spices used to marinate the chicken which makes it taste so tasty and different from those outside. The chicken skin is thin and very crispy and there are nice tinge of spice aroma in them, beneath the skin lies juicy tender yummy chicken meat.It is quite stressful and pressured to eat quickly here during lunch time as there will be long queues forming out the restaurant waiting for seats.

My favourite fried chicken place in Singapore! Location may not be at all convenient to me but I was willing to head down whenever I have the craving, it's worth the trip! The chicken was served piping hot as I was able to still see the smoke even after eating half of it. It's amazing how they can fry it to the right timing to make it so crispy, tender and juicy yet able to rid all the excess oil at the same time. The fries and colesaw were also great and complements the hero of the dish really well.

Although the portion is slightly bigger than the usual suspects, I feel that it's not really worth the price. Tastewise, it's quite well fragrant and not oily at all! The meat was a little dry though.

However, what really caught our attention was the mash potato that everybody seemed to have ordered. We decided to try it out and boy were we glad we did! The mash potato was exceptionally smooth, creamy and flavourful. At $3.60 for two giant scoops of mash plus an overflowing portion of sauce, this was a real steal!

The Whole Spring Chicken ($11) is fried to golden brown and served with fries. Its unique taste, most probably due to its seasoning makes the fried chicken much more tastier and you'll love it and ask for more.

They used Cod fish for their Fish & Chip ($8.90), served with fries as well. The fish is also fried to crispy golden brown. They used a unique batter which made the fish and chips taste unique and great. Also, their tartar sauce is rather nice when dipped with the fries and fish.

As for the Mashed Potato ($3.50), nothing really special, I still prefer Popeye's Mashed Potato.

The price of the dishes at Arnold Chicken is rather reasonable and affordable. They also have group meals which are cheaper if you're coming in bulk groups. Definitely worth a try if you've not tried before Arnold Chicken.

Since Arnold's stopped the delivery service on weekdays, i've not managed to get my fix of its chicken and potatoes w cheese dip until 12 Oct. I'm glad that they offer 10% off for orders above $30 if you fax in your orders for self-collection at your preferred time. Faxed over my orders around 1.25pm and got their call to acknowledge receipt of fax as well as to inform the costs after discount within 5 mins. Chicken still tasted juicy and smelt fantastic although crisscut fries, wedges and fries turned soft.

My craving was satisfied despite the lack of natural chips (no longer available) to form the potato platter.

I had heard that there was this Fried Chicken Restaurant at City Square that was much better than KFC. Hence I went there to try with friends.

I had ordered a Fried Spring Chicken. The wait for the order to come to table was quite some time, I think they freshly made when order.

The Fried Spring Chicken came with two sides and it seem that they were quite stingy with the sides given.

The Fried Chicken was steamy hot and crispy on the skin. When I teared apart the chicken meat, there was a lot of hot juices flowing out.

The battered skin tasted good, with enough amount of seasoning and taste quite similar to Golden Roaster fried chicken. Under the skin was a layer of chicken fats and juices which tasted good but sinful. The chicken meat tasted hot, tender and juicy.

Overall, this fried chicken really tasted as compared to KFC, though prices were quite similar.

You're assigned a table, order and pay at the counter, then they serve up your chicken in about 15 to 20 minutes. I find the chicken significantly less greasy than other place, and it's a beautiful golden colour and doesn't have the taste of old oil that's been reused too many times.

I don't know what sorcery they dabble in, but even the chicken breast is tender and succulent. My mind screamed that it was impossible, because chicken breast is often dry and tough. The skin was crisp perfection, crunching as I bit into each piece.

If you order a set and wish to exchange for other parts, you have to pay a little more for thigh and drumstick portions. You also have to pay if you want mayonnaise. There is service here, but the staff not particularly helpful.

In case you haven’t noticed, I haven’t mentioned much about fried chicken fast food joints in the recent past. A queue number is issued and then he waits to be seated. Beverage and napkins served as soon as you are seated, and the food is served very briefly after.

Note: their variety of beverage is quite a classic, as they feature local delights such as iced bandung, iced lemon tea, iced milo (with or w/o whipped cream), teh-tarik, as well as typical sodas/ soft drinks.

At 1st glance, the chicken parts are not too heavily coated with batter, and the glistening golden brown crust is testament that the food is prepared ala-minute. The meat is juicy & tasty, not a sign of overcooked dryness in every bite.

The coleslaw & mashed potato generally meets the competition’s benchmark; and I’d say the buns go real well dipped in the generous helping of whipped potato sauce.

Brightly lit and decorated.

Once you have been assigned an empty table, make your order at the counter before going back to your seat.

Expect to wait 15 to 25 minutes as the fried chicken are cooked upon order!

The Spring Chicken was served pipping hot. The chicken was fried perfectly! On the outside, it (skin) was crispy. On the inside, it was very tender, soft and juicy! It was a surprise to me that all the parts of the chicken was so tender and soft. Normally even for KFC, there will be certain parts of the chicken that are hard and dry. But this was not the case for Arnold's Fried Chicken. How did they do it? However, in terms of the marination; usage of herbs and spices, KFC's eleven herbs and spices fare better. The mashed potato and fries are average, nothing to shout about.

Overall, I quite like the chicken at Arnold's Fried Chicken. Now I know why everyone has been raving about this place! If you are coming here, you must order their chicken! So soft, so tender, so juicy and it is freshly cooked! They need to open one outlet at the North!

They have 3 outlets at the moment. For the locations please refer to the end of the post. Arnold's Fried Chicken does delivery too.
