One of the more popular stalls in Chinatown Complex Market, it is a great choice for simple local fare. We ordered the bee hoon, chee cheong fun and the yam cake. A cheap and filling breakfast!!! The yam cake was one of the top selling item found in the stall besides their dumplings. This steam delicacy was smooth and cut into smaller chunks with the sweet black sauce to enhance its taste. I would say these pieces are soft and requires some skills to grab if you are using the chop sticks.
Cost: S$1.50

the chee cheong fun is a bit oily for my liking , as you can see in the photo on how it reflects under the light. the cheong fun is soft and nice; overall taste is okay , I've easily had better. This stall have been around like ever since the first time i came here. Service was fast but uncle serving not so friendly (in a hurry).

First off, a dish of chee cheong fun and yam cake is what I had. The cuts of chee cheong fun are put on top of the pieces of yam cake. The yam cake and chee cheong fun are served with sesame oil, chili sauce and dark sweet sauce and sprinkled with sesame seeds that make the dish appetising. The yam cake is pale purple and does not have any cube of yam appearing on its surface. It is soft and springy. It has a slight yam taste. The chee cheong fun is factory made. It is smooth but not as soft and springy as handmade ones. However, the sesame oil, chili sauce and dark sweet sauce add flavours to the dish. Hence, together with the yam cake, the chee cheong fun tastes better with all three of these.

If yam cake and chee cheong fun is not enough, a glutinous rice dumpling is included in the list of what I had for lunch too. The dumpling is unwrapped and cut into pieces before serving. It is stir-fried glutinous rice dumpling with salted egg yolk. The glutinous rice on the surface is brown and looks oily and glossy. The rice is sticky and chewy. The meat in the dumpling is minced. That surprises me because I thought the meat should come in big chunks. Nonetheless, it still has a bit of its meaty flavour but is a bit too hard to chew. The chestnut is soft and becomes a gritty mash in my mouth. The salted yolk is crumbly and not so golden yellow. However, it is best to have a salted egg yolk in the dumpling. The egg yolk is not too salty. It adds its unique eggy flavour to the dumpling.

Well, I have never had such nice food before. The dishes looks and tastes good but can be improved from my point of view. I do not mind coming there once more.

I come here quite often with my partner to have breakfast. Some of the usual choices for breakfast are steamed yam cake, soon kueh, chee cheong fun and meat dumpling. Ordered the porridge and yu sheng instead of the yam cake and Chee Cheong Fun. I think I have made the wrong choice as the porridge is quite tasteless and there is not much ingredients. As for the yu sheng, I feel that it tastes quite fresh and sweet. In fact, I think the yu sheng is value for money as it is relatively cheaper than what I have in other places.

chee cheong fun & steamed yam cake combo ($2) from Jia Ji Mei Shi is very worth it. At the price of $2, the portion is huge. The chee cheong fun was very chewy and tender. And so was the yam cake. They were both very smooth. The chili wasn’t potent but had a kick. I especially like the yam cake. Its “yam”-ness wasn’t very strong, but it was springy and soft at the same time. Quite a winner. It is worth to buy for breakfast if your office is near there, well, I only manage to have it in weekend.

I usually get some dumplings from this very stall whenever i am there. And, i usually have them refrigerated and steamed it for breakfast, lunch or even dinner. Each dumpling with salted egg yolk is at $2.50. It might sounds a little pricey but it is very much worth it though as the amount of ingredients were rather generous including a big piece of moist salted egg yolk embedded in it. I enjoyed eating it.

This place serves one of the best yam cake in SG! Even without any sauce, the yam cake and chee cheong fun taste great! And it is only $2, really value for money. Beside the yam cake and chee cheong fun, one can also try the yu sheng. Personally, I find that it is a very tasty appetizer. It cost $3 and the serving is quite generous. However, I find that the hawker centre is quite dirty. There are many tables with plates not being clear.

Food at Chinatown Market Complex is really cheap and they sell a variety of local delights. I ordered a plate of yam cake and chee cheong fun which costs only $2. Both yam cake and chee cheong fun taste great paired with the sweet sauce dressing. The aunty who served us was very friendly. Thumbs up for the store.

Their dumplings, both Hokkien and Nyonya are pretty nice too. I usually buy a few to keep them in the fridge.

And, they are also selling fried bee hoon, mee and porridge.

You have your option and now, you can choose!
