The pork, especially, was delectable and was a fine balance between fat and meat.

On the other hand, Thomas had the Sliced Pork La Mian while Douglas ordered the La Mian with Deep Fried Chicken Cutlet. The noodles we had were basically the same La Mian, made fresh on ordering, which were silky and finely cut.

Douglas’ chicken cutlet came on a separate plate which ensured that the crispy pieces were not soaked in the broth and did not lose its texture. The chicken, though a little oily for my taste, stood out because of its flavour. Though I’m not too sure what sauces or marinades they used, the flavour evoked a sort of home-cooked feeling which I rarely experienced at restaurants.

Last but not least, we also tried Paradise Dynasty’s famous “multi-coloured” Signature Dynasty Xiao Long Baos (S$13.80). Apparently, there was an order we were supposed to follow while eating the Xiao Long Baos but since it was our first time trying their signature dish, our inexperience caused us to overlook the order and our zeal in trying out the different coloured Baos resulted in us simply randomly eating those whose colours looked most appealing. Needless to say, the Xiao Long Baos’ special flavours were not apparent to our palates and resulted in a huge anti-climax. Hence, as a warning to future diners, please be reminded to follow the order.

Ultimately, what makes Paradise Dynasty a recommendable place to eat is not just their sumptuous food, but also their prices. Located on the top floor of ION Orchard, one would easily mistake the prices in Paradise Dynasty to rival those of the other posh restaurants in its vicinity. However, our meal this time cost us no more than $20 each - a reasonable price for the quality of food and ambience provided. So if you are looking for good food at a more conservative price in Orchard, why not give Paradise Dynasty a try?

I was feeling slightly under the weather so I decided to order the dumpling noodle soup from paradise dynasty. The dumpling was pretty huge in size but one thing bad about it is that it opens up really easily. The meat they use is very fresh. There was a mixture of chopped vegetables mixed with the meat. The soup itself taste really good, very tasty despite the colour looking really bland. The noodles were pretty good. Very springy and does not stick to the teeth.

The World’s First 8 Flavoured Xiao Long Bao which created lots of publicity online and in the media for this restaurant.

Tables near the entrance. This photo was taken as we were leaving at around 130pm. By then, the place was full. Not an easy accomplishment as it was a weekday and the place was huge!

We were seated inside. Here you can spot more empty tables as these photos were taken when we arrived. Huge place with large sitting capacity. Amazing, it was full by 1245pm. Look at setting of this restaurant. Moreover, waiters and waitress were in uniform that makes you feel as if they are serving a prince/princess (you).

What drinks to order? Water or tea when the price is the same.

Well, we ordered tea, which was refillable.

Needless to say, we ordered the Signature Dynasty Dumplings. Appearance wise, I would have given a perfect 10. Taste wise, it was a disappointment. Even the original flavour one was so-so. I would still prefer Crystal Jade’s.

I ordered the La Mian with Sliced Pork in Signature Pork Bone Soup. The la mian was good, each strand was thin, soft and fragrant. Each piece of pork was thinly sliced. The half an egg was nicely cooked too with its runny yolk. The only down side was that the soup base was quite salty.

Overall, in terms of food, Paradise Dynasty reminds me of Crystal Jade. After tasting the food, I would prefer Crystal Jade’s Xiao Long Bao and La Mian. In terms of service, Paradise Dynasty’s service was prompt and efficient. Felt that Paradise Dynasty’s Xiao Long Bao was over-hyped. Nothing special. But overall, is still a decent place to come for lunch if you are in town especially for its la mian.

The interior looks pretty posh for a restaurant that offer reasonable food prices. The decorations were very suited to the name of the restaurant - the royal, majestic feel. Seating capacity was very large, with both indoor and outdoor seats for you to choose from. I also like that the kitchen is surrounded by glass so that we can see what is going on in there!

Of course, we ought to order the famous Rainbow Xiao Long Bao - Original, Ginseng, Foie Gras, Black Truffles, Szechuan, Cheese, Garlic, Crab Roe.
I personally think the original one is still the best. If I were to choose one among the 'special' flavours, it would be crab roe. I like anything that has the seafood, fishy taste. Garlic flavour was really overpowering. Szechuan was the worst flavour. The rest are not here nor there. The flavours were not to distinct to taste it at one bite but it doesn't shield the xiao long baos' taste as well.

Ohh yes, I also like that the Xiao Long Baos were seated on a piece of white cloth cos that makes it easier to take them without tearing the skin!

La Mian in Pork Bone Soup with Sliced Pork Belly.
Though I prefer japanese ramen, this is quite good for a chinese la mian! The soup is quite flavourful and you could taste that there were some good ingredients used to brew it.
The pork belly is great as well! Well-cooked, flavourful, good texture

This place is great for a quick restaurant dinner, family fare etc.. Or some chinese dian xin or xiao chi, at reasonable prices! Service was prompt even though it was thoroughly packed (the queue outside is never ending). There were many staff around and it wasn't difficult to get their attention. I'm looking forward to try their other dishes!

This is the sour and spicy noodle. This is a HUGE bowl of noodles. There were 4 of us and we couldn't finish this. The broth was nice and had a good tang to it due to the sze chuan so quite refreshing to the palate. Particularly suitable for rainy days.

My pick of that day: La Mian in Signature Pork Bone soup and Deep fried Pork Rib S$11.80.
It was surprisingly good for me especially deep fried pork rib. It was nicely deep fried pork rib. The softness of meat texture attracts my taste bud. The noodle's texture is springy and the soup base is compatible with the noodle.

Apparently, their La Mian was pretty popular and eight out of nine of us all ordered La Mian. In fact, they have a great variety here too! I think there were 10 different kinds at least.

My boyfriend ordered Shanghai fried rice, at $10.80

Prepared with fresh prawn and chicken chunks, this fried rice outstands other normal fried rice with a tangy soy sauce. It's quite filling for 1pax definitely. The ingredients are very fresh and there was an appropriate amount of it, pretty well done!

Then mine was the Chicken chop la mian, $10.80 as well.

First, the portion is small for a normal person. I've been trying to cut down my carbo intake so I didn't finish it either. But the portion is really small for a guy, at least. The broth looks oily, yup it's a little. The soup is especially bland to me, so I was disappointed. I'm a fan of strong tasted broth so I think this was ordinary. The Chicken cutlet was good though! Wasn't very oily.

We definitely ordered more than what you see here, which fetch a bill of $200+ (9 of us). But like I've mentioned, I didn't take photos of them, sorry!

But here's what I thought were worth a mention:

1. Pork Dumpling with Chili Sauce $4.80
2. Pan Fried Pork Dumpling $3.90
3. Shang Hai Pork Bun $4.50

Alright overall, I would like to commend their delicious cuisine served in an appropriate pace. We ordered a total of 4 sets of XLB and they were served at staggered times, which was very meticulous because the XLB will turn cold before we can even finish the first set.

Ambience
The whole restaurant was set in a slightly dim lightings, which sets me in a very good mood to enjoy the food and music. What I really suggest is to come in a group so that you can try out a bit of every dish, without spending a lot. The price are pretty much the same as those of Crystal Jade, and if i'm not wrong, cheaper than that! In my humble opinion, Crystal's jade standard has deteriorated due to it's increased commercialization, so why not spending elsewhere (paradise dynasty) when they are still put in the effort to keep their standard there?

Service
The waiters are very polite as well! They come to your service pretty fast too. If you want to replenish hot water for your tea, they are willing to do so immediately as well.

Hope you enjoyed my review! Seriously, do visit Paradise dynasty for a change.

Visited Paradise Dynasty as I was attracted by their colourful Xiao Long Bao. It was a pain to get in, the restaurant does not accept reservations and we queue for about 30 mins.

It seems the restaurant was short on staff. On a weekday dinner, we waited ages for someone to come and take our order and even to serve tea. The staff worked as fast as they could but still could not cope with the crowd. Below is correct sequence to eat the Xiao Long Bao; from the milder flavored ones to the full flavored ones.

I felt that the multi-coloured Xiao Long Baos was just a novelty, they certainly didn’t taste as good as they looked. Ding Tai fung does Xiao Long Baos better. Amongst the 8 flavours, I consider the cheese one the best and the sze chuan one the worst.

We also had:

Guo Tia and Dan Dan Mian

preserved vegetables noodles in pork bone soup

Soufflé egg white stuffed with red bean and banana.

If you are those who love to try new foods, then thought this dish may be able to interest you. Instead of the usual xiao long bao in its plain white skin, this version has added lots of colours to it which make it more appearing and attractive. However I think all taste the same and glad that the minced meat inside is chewy and juicy. If you are those who love to try new foods, then thought this dish may be able to interest you. Instead of the usual xiao long bao in its plain white skin, this version has added lots of colours to it which make it more appearing and attractive. However I think all taste the same and glad that the minced meat inside is chewy and juicy. Moreover, you must be careful when having it as hiding inside the colourful skin is filled with the sweet meat juicy sauce that make it more appetitizing.
