Xian De Lai ( Serangoon )
My husband's friend read reviews and asked us to join him at Xian De Lai. By look, it really take you away!

The interior design is well furnished and the table was designed in a way for extension to place the food.

There's a wide range of selection, however there are some that's a little weird.

Mushroom paste - I dared not tried.

Complimentary dish:

It's individual pot at Xian De Lai - there's Bak Kut Teh, Tom Yum, Duck and Chicken soup base.

The Tom Yum fair the worst among all - it's like the maggie mee soup. Other soup base were average.

Overall, fresh ingredients but average soup base.

Awfully Chocolate - Expending both in No. & Menu
Smile 2013-02-04

Awfully Chocolate ( Tampines )
Awfully Chocolate is sure one of the fast growing home grown chocolate house. Beside chocolate, now that's a new addition:

White Chocolate Creme Brulee Tart - $6.00

A really fine dessert with quality and it just makes life a rewarding one. The tart is make to a perfection that it isn't too sweet and the tart crust is neither too soft or too hard.

It just makes me rather curious how Awfully Chocolate expend with quality assurance. It just never disappoint me.

Qi Wei Ji Bao ( Upper Serangoon )
Spotted this stall by chance when we were there for Nasi Lemak and decided to come back to try.

Basically you order your choice of claypot and add on ingredients.

Step 1:

We had the chicken claypot (1/2) chicken.

Step 2:

Choose from the selection from the fridge, prices vary according to the colour of the plate.

The soup base is black in colour and smell of sesame oil - it is very tonic!

The taste is rather special and it is not the ordinary steamboat.

P.S. not everyone can take it, some may hate it while some may fall in love with it.

Cold Fast Food
Cries 2013-02-04

Long John Silver's ( Yishun )
It been donkey years since I last had Long John Silver until when I decided to give it a try.

We ordered 2 mains and a side.

All I could say is, both our main are serve cold and the fries is not entirely cook. Lucky for the fish and chicken chop that were still edible.

Clam Chowder is alright, MOS burger serve it best still!

I was kind of disappointed to have such meal, after all fast food should kill the craving. I will give Long John a miss...

Menu that Cater to 1 Diner
Smile 2013-02-04

Heng Heng Curry Cafe ( Woodlands )
After Causeway Point revamping, we headed there and spot this unique cafe.

It can be crowded especially on weekends. We walked in slightly earlier before dinner time and it was just a few tables occupied but it got crowded when we left.

I will say this is a modern Peranakan cafe by its setting and menu they offer:

The tableware is worth a praise:

For less than $10 you get to order curry fish head and curry chicken which is very affordable.

I personally favour the chicken curry than the fish. The gravy is totally different, the chicken one is more fragrance.

Good place to head to if you are dining alone, both price and portion is great!

Best Zi Char Place
Smile 2013-02-04

Hong Kong New Generation Street - Q'San Eating House ( Changi )
Every dishes on the menu is serve and cook with the chef's effort - you taste it and feel it.

A must order is the fish head curry $18.00. The curry is both sweet and spicy but not too spicy - just nice! I like the fried beancurd skin added in the fish head curry that is not too overly fried. You can eat the curry fish head alone and feel contented that you actually come by. smile

Indonesia Chicken $12.00

It is cook in sweet sauce with chili padi, and the meat is tender - one of the special dish.

Fried You Tiao $8.00

Not oily, very crispy!

This Zi Char place is definitely worth your discovery.

Jack's Place - The Family Place
Smile 2013-02-04

Jack's Place ( City Hall )
Jack's Place is truly a family place, although it has a lot of outlet island wide - it's the brand colour and the furnishing that makes us feel welcome.

It was crowded as we entered past lunch time on a Sunday. I did see a few business associate having their office gathering discussing business on a light note.

Jack's Place price it's food at a very reasonable rate and offering value set meal with soup and drink.

The orange is not diluted and the mushroom soup is just nice not too creamy.

Chicken Chop was great not too oily.

What I like most about Jack's Place is the Singaporean taste favour that they take into consideration.

This is hor fun style spaghetti, GOOD. You have to try!

First Experience with TWG
Smile 2013-02-04

TWG Tea Salon & Boutique ( Orchard )
Now I know why TWG is so famous. The list of tea they offer is too much and we are just spoil for choice. Looking the list up and down for at least 5 times, I finally ordered the Silver Moon.

Mine is the best pick of all, just simply love it! I am a vanilla lover so the fragrance of the vanilla tea is to my liking. I definitely come back to try other tea.

I am not just a vanilla lover and also a fan of chocolate! The chocolate fondant is just very chocolate, a chocolate lover will love it. The pairing of the dessert with the tea is just a perfect match to strike a balance.

CRÈME BRÛLÉE is slightly burnt.

Overall, a chat over tea here at TWG is a great place to be.

New Addition to Takashimaya
Just OK 2013-02-04

Paul Bakery ( Orchard )
My lady friend wanted to have a meal here for Christmas celebration, so we headed there. It was quite popular with queue forming during dinner time.

A look at the menu, I was a bit lost as to what to order as there's a limitation to its menu. Being Singaporean, their menu is too foreign for us. I am not a steak eater so there's nothing much to choose from.

We all had the Salmon soup which didn't really last an impression for me.

I ordered the roasted chicken - way too salty.

Smoke Salmon

Mushroom Omelette

Steak

Overall, all of us felt that we should dine somewhere else because we didn't feel contented with our meal - considering that is dinner for us. We headed to somewhere else for dessert.

Music, Drink, Food - The KPOP Wave
Smile 2013-02-04

Boss BarBQ ( Clarke Quay )
After a long day, we still decided to head to somewhere for a drink. Aimlessly, we spotted Boss BarBQ! We felt the overall experience not bad with KPOP music playing at the background.

The waiter then usher us to the inner seats with a small stage in front. However, we relocated to an outside seat for some breeze.

After awhile, then we realize why he leaded us to the inner seat as there's live performance!

Oh well, I still managed to look-see a little. Boss BarBQ play the most trendy KPOP songs such as the Gnam Style! And if you like hot babes dancing in front of you - this is the place for you!

Their menu too look very attractive. We ordered 2 appetizers without looking at the price.

Gobaengyi $38.00 *Chef recommendation

This dish is real spicy! We just couldn't take the spice! So we thought of ordering another plate of appetizer to put off the burning fire.

Seafood Toppokki $28.00

It ended up not much different, both were equally chili hot that we almost finish our drinks before we could finish the food.

The drinks have very unique name after popular KPOP singers.

KPOP $9.00

It is a cocktail drink with soda mix - rather refreshing.

Strawberry Margarita $16.00

If you decide to spend a long time here, this is the drink to order because no matter how much my lady drank it, she just didn't seems to finish it.

Pomegranate Julep $9.00

A very light drink, if you are a drink lover - this may not content you.

Overall, I felt that the appetizer price is too overly price and we could have order a set meal that's more worth it. Nonetheless, I will still give it a try but this time round I will look at the price before ordering! smile

One of The Dim Sum Place to Go
Smile 2013-02-02

Peach Garden ( Bishan )
Dim sum when order might be costly, a better deal is to head to ala-carte Dim Sum Buffet! Peach Garden is one of the places to head to that serve dim sum traditionally with the push cart.

Beside the push cart that serve dim sum there's a buffet section with hot selection and a small section for dessert in the middle.

At the hot selection, some dishes they offer are fried rice, fried carrot cake with bean sprouts in XO sauce is one of the house special.

I will called this a big Wanton wrap soup - very special!

Cheese ball for the cheese lover - very modern dim sum serve here at Peach Garden!

Also, there's beacon wrap - NICE!

Some usual Dim Sum:

Service was good, very prompt and attentive. A great place for a weekends high tea dim sum with family.

P.S. Parking is a hazard on weekends.

Dine like A Dynasty
Smile 2013-02-01

Paradise Dynasty ( Orchard )
Paradise Dynasty is furnished in a royal style but is not too pricey.

Famous for its colourful Xiao Long Bao:

Each one taste uniquely good. I wish that I could have the whole colourful Xiao Long Bao to myself.

Can't recall what Bao is this, but it is very fragrance.

3 kind of eggs combination - very special and the chef is very skillful.

Shanghai Fried Rice - the excitement die down after being impressed by the colourful Xiao Long Bao and 3 eggs combination.

The Seafood Place
Smile 2013-02-01

Kuishin Bo ( River Valley )
I went there for a Christmas buffet after searching for a perfect buffet place. Glad that I came by! A wide varieties of food serve here and there's an outside BBQ area whereby the chef will help you BBQ e.g. chicken wings.

If you are planning to come by, do make reservation to enjoy:

I specially love the cold seafood area whereby they offer large snow crab that taste very juicy sweet! It will be great if they serve oyster.

They too offer a colourful range of sushi.

As for the hot selection, I am a little disappointed - not to my liking.

Despite that, they have other selections like the Tanpayaki section and soup & noodle section.

Desserts were great, there's chocolate and premier soft ice cream to end your meal on a sweet note.

The in Between of Ice Cream & Milkshake
Smile 2013-02-01

DQ Express ( Pasir Ris )

Spotted this Kiosk that has been popping up in shopping malls and decided to finally try.

What caught my interest is the m&m special on their menu. I have been wondering why their photos are upside down until when my husband pointed me to this image display at the cashier.

So, you can actually turn your beverage upside down and your shake won't drip. The cashier does hand you your beverage of choice upside down too! No wonder, it is DQ - Daily Queen!

While waiting for my beverage I spotted their party pack:

You may want to try it out on your next party hosting.

We love our thick m&m shake - heavenly great!

Good Find @ Yam's Kitchen
Smile 2013-02-01

Yam's Kitchen ( Pasir Ris )
Another great Chinese Restaurant hidden at the top level of Ehub at the corner. Do make reservation if you are coming in group as it is too well receive even among the secondary students as the price is too affordable.

Yam's Kitchen menu is very diverse and different from other Chinese restaurant or Zi Char places. They have their own unique dishes and even special desserts.

Check out their wine set meal from $39.90 onward which is quite a steal.

Fried Slice Fish in Orange Sauce ($7.80) - Very appetizing and refreshing. If you are afraid of fish bone, this is definitely a big hit among children.

Crispy Chicken ($14.80) - Very tender and I really like the display of this dish with the spread of chicken salt at the edge and colourful crackers. For $14.80, you get the 5 star hotel restaurant display and taste.

Handmade Seafood Roll ($9.80) - Crispy, chewy and they are thoughtful to pair it with honeydew dice cut to balance off this dish.

Great place for CNY 2013 celebration! If you come in group, there's round table with lazy susan.

P.S. I heard the chef is from hotel restaurant. Worth vising!
