My boy loves roti prata. After watching a movie at Shaw Nex, he said he wanted to eat roti prata, so the 2 of us went to Prata Wala in NEX level 2. He had the plain roti prata and I had prata with onions and egg. The roti prata is not the crispy type that I like but they are generous with the onions and egg, the prata is full with onions and egg. The waiting time is not long.

For me, Prata is the most delicious North and South Indian food in casual ambience. Prata Wala at Serangoon Nex which I visited was one of the prata experts, usually served with a vegetable or meat based curry. I ordered normal prata with egg, mushroom and cheese ($4.20). It was crispy while it is still hot and the taste was wonderful when you eat along with their curry and sambal. Prata Wala always serves unusual prata fillings and flavours such as vegetables, chicken, mushroom, milo, condensed milk and etc. They are also selling prata set, price ranged from $6.90 onwards.

Other signatures : Naan, Thosai, Tandoori, Nasi Briyani and also Teh Tarik.

For those big eater, don't worry, the portion on our plate is pretty generous.

Had my dinner at Prata Wala. As it was their peak period, waiting time was quite long. Ordered a set of butter naan with mutton curry. Took more than 25 minutes before the food was served. It was quite a huge portion. The naan was not too hard and it was covered with the fragrance of the butter. It tasted quite good even on its own and tasted even better with the mutton curry.

Went there for lunch with friends. We ordered Plain Prata and Chicken Branyani. When we recieved the food, it was quite tempting and piping hot. First bite, the prata was crispy and it have a little bit margerine flavor, somemore its not oily too. The fish gravy was quite good and not overly thick but it a bit cold, a bit disappointed. The fish curry gravy that go along with it has blend well with these pratas. The briyani was not bad too. The chicken was juicy and fresh and the gravy really goe

Not only their pratas taste good, I also love to eat their thosai as well. I have tried their paper thosai this time round and was equally happy with it. It is really big and the texture is very crispy and the portion is really big. Three different types of gravies are provided on the serving plate, which includes the cold tomato gravy, yogurt gravy and the curry potato gravy. Very satisfying dish for a person and also good to eat it as a snack for two persons as well.

This Indian cafe in NEX serves both North and South Indian cuisine.
It is an open-air cafe located in a strategic position in the mall.
Nobody can miss this cafe, given it's proximity to the Level 2 escalator and the almost fully-occupied tables at mealtimes.
One will be spoilt for choice due to the wide variety of food.

There are various rice sets, as well as naan, prata and thosai sets.
The Briyani looked inviting, so we decided to try the Mutton Briyani set that came with - Rice, Mutton Cubes and Gravy, Vegetables ( diced carrots) and Papadum.
The rice was soft, fragrant and not too oily.
However, similar positive remarks could not be made about the mutton.
The mutton did not taste as good as it looked and smelt.
In fact, it tasted a little stale- perhaps because the dish had been prepared using frozen, not fresh, meat. Most of the pieces were tough and rubbery.
The carrots were okay but the other two types of veggies were not.
The long beans had been overcooked, and the tofu was a little undercooked.
I'm not sure how early the vegetables had been cooked, but they should have been kept warm. The veggies were cold when we ate them.

Next, the chicken masala. This was good, but the portion was too big!
Perhaps, the staff should have the initiative to cut it up into smaller pieces - it was really quite difficult to wrestle with this huge piece of meat!

Overall, the service was average as the cashier was not completely well-versed with the different dishes. Price-wise, it was pretty okay, but the freshness of the food should be improved. As it is an open-concept Cafe, it can get noisy on a busy day.
Will i be back Well, would like to try the prata and naan the next time....

I chance upon their branch at Tiong Bahru Plaza, #01-12.
Operating hours:
Mon – Thu: 11am – 11pm
Fri & Eve of Public Holidays: 11am – 12midnight
Sat: 9am – 12midnight
Sun: 9am – 11pm

I like it that they cook the pratas as per order, not like some places where they pre-cook and leave the pratas sitting.
The fish curry gravy is flavourful and just the right consistency, not diluted and not overly thick.
Teh tarik is also good - I had requested to have it stronger and less sweet; and it turned out just as I expected it to be, with a nice tea flavour.

Overall, it was heavenly yummy!

Plus, the fact that I had my prata and tea for takeaway which I only consumed about 1 hour later, and they still tasted yummy, imagine eating it fresh at the shop!

I am glad I found this place.
