Yummy Good soup Smile Mar 18, 2011

Soups are amazing.magical.wonderfully warm on the tummy.

On a gloomy rainy day, have a bowl of hot soup to warm the senses and feel snug.

On a hot day, have a good bowl of soup to keep you cool!

At any time, have a bowl of tonic soup for nutrition! Have it on its own, have it to accompany your meal, have it for breakfast, have it for lunch or dinner. Have it with rice, bread, together with noodles. Ahh, isn't that just a perfect accompaniment!

Uncle Soup serves up great healthy soups for just about anyone! Want a spicy kick, try the seafood tom yum soup! Going for something simple? Try the fish or seafood soup. Want something flavourful? The Bak Kut Teh is awesome. the pig stomach soup is peppery and aromatic. Or go for the ultimate chicken herbal soup, a big chicken drumstick swimming in ginseng soup.

I love uncle soup for its original soups. They are nutritious and cheap without use of MSG. The seafood soup is good with prawns, fish, crabmeat, fishcake and comes with rice. The fish soup is really good as they use fresh fish slices. Have that served in a mini hot pot and it completes your day.

The soups that they offer generally taste good and at 2.50 a pot, it is extremely affordable? add 30 cents for a bowl of rice or top up 50 cents for an extra serving of vegetables!!

So, get soupy today!

SImple Lunch OK Mar 17, 2011

Categories : Food Court

The canteen is always so filled when it is lunch time!! So decided to head over at 11.15 today to grab some lunch and avoid the long queues!

Yong tau foo is really cheap with each piece costing only 25 cents! That is so much cheaper compared to outside and you can also enjoy the relatively wide selections! You can choose from rice or noodles. It is also possible to opt for additional laksa soup for your yong tau foo in place of the normal soup if you are in for some spicy kick for only an extra 30 cents!

Generally, the soup is very average and I feel it could have been better. The laksa is a tastier alternative! I believe the soup is the important star in YTF. However, the healthy note is that it doesnt taste like it contains any msg. Hooray! But nevertheless the low price for each individual item is the greatest draw! Do patronise the stall before or during lunch as usually after lunch hours the food item selection is vastly reduced and there usually isn't more refills. Even though the stall is opened till dinner, sometimes there isn't even any vegetables left.

Good ol' chwee Kueh Smile Mar 15, 2011
Categories : Singaporean Chinese | Hawker Centre

Chwee kueh, the little steamed rice cakes topped with preserved radish and chilli sauce, a perfect dish for breakfast or tea!

Chwee kueh stalls are common in many hawker centres these days but some of them taste so typical as I see many branches of a chwee kueh franchise around the island.

This Ghim Moh Chwee Kueh is different, I have eaten it for over ten years and it still tastes as perfect as ever. The rice cake is not the kind which you would find extremely soft but it is of the right texture.

The star of the show is the radish. I haven't been quite able to point out the star ingredient in this pot of pickled radish i see at the stall. It is so fragrant and it complements the kueh perfectly. This radish is on the salty side, I have eaten most which are slightly sweeter but this scores with that savoury kick.

I see the stall owners painfally stacking the little metal cup shaped containers and steaming them everyday.

Definitely a must eat if you drop by Ghim Moh Market! Always ask more more radish!!

Popped by Soup Restaurant to have dinner after a long day at work. This restaurant has several branches around the island and lives up to its name for good chinese fanfare.

The signature dish is Samsui Chicken which is a dish I would order without fail. The tender chicken dipped in the delicious ginger paste, double dip it in chilli and black sauce, have it on its own or wrap it in lettuce, have it your way! Ordered Tofu Prawn With Fried Mantou. The sauce is perfect for dipping, a lighter version of chilli crab sauce and the dish scores!

The soups are a must to try. If you are with someone, do order the medium soup as it is served in a clay soup pot and it is definitely more worth it than the small portion. Had the pork ribs and corn soup. Great Flavour! It does take really a lot of work to make a pot of good soup. Save the work and head down here to slurp up!

One thing good about the restaurant is that it does not use MSG. MSG is really bad for health and I am glad the food tastes all so great even without the use of it. Truly healthy. This is definitely one of the restaurants I would routinely visit!

Simple Lunch OK Mar 12, 2011

Categories : Taiwanese | Chinese | Restaurant | Noodles | Rice

Decided to give this restaurant a try since Asian Kitchen serves pretty decent food and this was another sub restaurant with a Taiwanese twist.

The plum sauce duck seemed to be a signature dish of the restaurant so had one order of that. It was just duck meat in normal plum sauce and it was nothing out of the ordinary given that it was even a signature dish. The bamboo rice was not too bad and was rather good. The fried tang hoon was only average but the chilli made it slightly better! Ordered beans fried in salted egg yolk. Once again an ordinary dish which was a rather small portion for the price.

The service was rather slow when we asked for water refill and extra utensils. The waitress kept forgetting to bring things to me. Only refilled the water towards the end of our mealsad Overall not really an authentic Taiwanese restaurant, the taste of it was really average and not really true taiwanese fanfare given the price as well.
