Hokkaido Butter Corn Ramen Smile Apr 12, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Ramen

If the looming queues are any indication, Ramen Champion is well deserving of the hype to their name.

Visited on a Saturday evening and while there was already a snaking queue, we were ushered to our seats in no time. The whole concept of the
place being that any orders are charged to a card and the total bill would then be summed up at the cashier upon leaving.

Decided to play it safe and tried the Hokkaido styled Tonkotsu Butter Corn Ramen. The bowl of ramen was garnished w a large sheet of seaweed, as well as a large ball of butter that melted effortlessly into the broth giving the broth as well as the noodles a highly desired creamy texture. The Tonkotsu slices were run of the mill but the noodles and broth were exemplary - flavourful without being cloying.

On my next visit, I do intend to give the Tokyo styled Bario ramen a run for its money seeing that a whole lot of Singaporeans seem to favour the Bario ramen - which basically has broth that is chock full of little fat bits. My tummy as well as my arteries are gonna have to make a sacrifice in the quest for Bario ramen.

Crispy Chicken Smile Feb 27, 2013

Ordered the 6pc 4 fingers crispy chicken in 2 flavours – spicy & soy garlic with seaweed fries. The chicken definitely lived up to its hype and I was pleasantly surprised by the sustained crispiness of the chicken despite being doused in their various sauces. Another remarkable thing is the quality of their fries. All their fries are solid and firm, lacking the occasionally soggy wad of fries usually found at the bottom of a fry pile.

Velvety Mushroom Soup Smile Feb 27, 2013

Met up with my friends and decided to have dinner at The Soup Spoon.

Ordered a Velvety Mushroom Soup(?) and completed it as a "meal" with Chilled Soba w/ Teriyaki Chicken and an Iced Lemon Tea. The mushroom soup was chock-full of rich generous mushroom chunks and went well with the bread on the side. But, as with all cream-based soups, it does get cloying after a while.

As for the Chilled Soba salad, the combination of cold soba noodles, shredded carrots, seaweed and snow peas was refreshing and helped balance out the cloying-ness of the mushroom soup.

Kitsune Udon Smile Feb 27, 2013

Tsuru-Koshi Udon is definitely in the running for the crown of my favourite udon.

Despite lacking in the aesthetics department, their Kitsune Udon more than makes up for it with the taste - chewy & smooth udon noodles housed in the flavoursome broth. The bowl of udon is then topped off with a couple slices of Japanese sweet beancurd that goes perfectly with the udon noodles.

If its any indication, I've been back to Tsuru-Koshi Udon twice within 7 days just to get more of their Kitsune Udon and I'd definitely be back to try out their other udon noodles.

Teriyaki Salmon Smile Feb 27, 2013

Categories : Japanese

Dropped by the Takashimaya basement food hall for lunch one day and decided to give Nakajima Suisan a try and it ended up being a great find.

The set came with a side salad, that was surprisingly crisp and perfect as an appetiser, as well as miso soup. The salmon was perfectly grilled so much so that it flaked under pressure, and coated with teriyaki sauce.

The entire set was extremely filling and definitely worth the buck at only 11.50$.
