A so-so Steamboat Cry Jun 06, 2011

Initially wanted to have M Hotel steamboat buffet but when I called it was fully book. Then sis recommended that we had steamboat at Crystal Jade which she said somewhere in Bugis Street. Thus, we went there but to found out that it was no longer there. Had no choice but to just settle for what's there so we went in to this steamboat restaurant.

This place has 2 storey or 3 I suppose. We were allocated to the 2nd storey. While on the way up the stairs, I saw a server with a pot of soup and was heading up another storey. I was very concerned with his safety! A while later I saw another server clearing a tub of dirty plates walking down the stairs. Then I wonder what if the server slip and fall? *Shake head.

We ordered and while waiting I scanned around and thought "nothing much special on the tables."

Indeed, it wasn't special or even okay. Dish served were not fresh - very clearly it was just taken out from the freezer. Not a dish I tried left me an impression.

Really nothing much to say about this place.

Worst claypot ever Cry Apr 12, 2011

Looking at the menu and their restaurant layout, the food look nice.

Went the food arrived really C.M.I (Cannot Make It) man! So deceiving!!!

The only food that taste nice I bet is the finger food dish that they served – the steam version of the peanut.

The food court claypot rice is nicer than theirs! I had only 1 bowl serving of it, don’t want to waste calories on such food.
Bad!

Bad!

If you are not a great cook, I think you can cook better than theirs too! This claypot crab bee hoon is just a Maggie mee version and I think some brands of Maggie mee soup has better taste than this crab bee hoon soup!

This is a place that I WILL NEVER STEP IN AGAIN.

The bill was $36.25 and for this amount, I can eat a lot of decent food at the food court beside The Uncle Sam’s Claypots. We left the place with hunger still.

Setting: 4/5
Service: 3/5
Parking: 4/5
Menu: 3/5
Taste: 1/5
Price: 2/5 (It is not justifiable to the quality of food they served.)

Royal Steamboat? OK Feb 04, 2013

My husband's friend read reviews and asked us to join him at Xian De Lai. By look, it really take you away!

The interior design is well furnished and the table was designed in a way for extension to place the food.

There's a wide range of selection, however there are some that's a little weird.

Mushroom paste - I dared not tried.

Complimentary dish:

It's individual pot at Xian De Lai - there's Bak Kut Teh, Tom Yum, Duck and Chicken soup base.

The Tom Yum fair the worst among all - it's like the maggie mee soup. Other soup base were average.

Overall, fresh ingredients but average soup base.

Si Chou Steamboat OK Feb 04, 2013

Spotted this stall by chance when we were there for Nasi Lemak and decided to come back to try.

Basically you order your choice of claypot and add on ingredients.

Step 1:

We had the chicken claypot (1/2) chicken.

Step 2:

Choose from the selection from the fridge, prices vary according to the colour of the plate.

The soup base is black in colour and smell of sesame oil - it is very tonic!

The taste is rather special and it is not the ordinary steamboat.

P.S. not everyone can take it, some may hate it while some may fall in love with it.

New Addition to Takashimaya OK Feb 04, 2013

My lady friend wanted to have a meal here for Christmas celebration, so we headed there. It was quite popular with queue forming during dinner time.

A look at the menu, I was a bit lost as to what to order as there's a limitation to its menu. Being Singaporean, their menu is too foreign for us. I am not a steak eater so there's nothing much to choose from.

We all had the Salmon soup which didn't really last an impression for me.

I ordered the roasted chicken - way too salty.

Smoke Salmon

Mushroom Omelette

Steak

Overall, all of us felt that we should dine somewhere else because we didn't feel contented with our meal - considering that is dinner for us. We headed to somewhere else for dessert.
